Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To reduce the chance viewers think your 24/7 YouTube stream has ended, keep the broadcast connection running while the media changes—and test the handoff through to YouTube’s live preview. A playlist can loop correctly while the encoder or internet connection fails; conversely, the broadcast can stay connected while a transition creates a black frame or audio gap. No loop setting or hosting option guarantees that viewers will stay.
What can make viewers leave at a playlist transition?
A transition is not just the moment one file ends and the next begins. The outgoing picture, audio, playback source, encoder, and connection to YouTube all matter. A black frame, abrupt audio silence, source reset, encoder stop, local power loss, or network drop can make the stream appear to have ended or become broken.
A YouTube playlist page is not itself a live encoder feed. Prepared videos must be sent as a broadcast through an encoder or a managed playout service. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the platform connection; OBS media-source documentation covers playback behavior. Treat playback and broadcast health as separate things to check.
Prepare and test transitions before going live
- Build the playlist and inspect every boundary. Check the order, first and last frames, audio tails, aspect ratio, and whether the next item starts as expected. Look for unintended black frames, silence, or abrupt changes.
- Test the complete output. Use a private or unlisted test, or another noncritical broadcast. Observe the program output and YouTube live preview/status, not just the media player. Verify that audio continues and the encoder remains connected when one item ends and the next begins.
- Keep a fallback ready. Have a slate or fallback scene available in case a file fails or a transition looks wrong. Test the switch before relying on it during an unattended broadcast.
- Monitor after making changes. Watch the outgoing preview, audio meters, dropped-frame or connection indicators, and the public viewer experience. If a problem recurs, note the transition time and compare the encoder logs with YouTube’s stream status. There is no published transition-specific retention benchmark establishing how many viewers a particular fix will retain.
Changing a playlist while OBS is live
If OBS is sending a local VLC playlist, do not assume that editing the playlist file will reliably update the live output. In a 2023 OBS forum exchange, one operator reported mixed results: an edit sometimes appeared, while another did not appear until OBS and YouTube were shut down and restarted. This is an anecdotal user report, not a guaranteed description of OBS behavior.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A volunteer in that exchange suggested using scenes and automation, with replacement content prepared before switching. Treat that as community advice rather than authoritative product support. For any live edit, verify what viewers actually see and hear; schedule maintenance if the change cannot be tested safely.
Keep the local streaming chain available
With local playback, the computer, media files, OBS and VLC, power, and internet connection all have to remain available. A UPS can help a local computer and router ride through a brief power interruption, but it cannot fix a network outage, encoder crash, or YouTube-side problem. This dependency list is also described in iTechGuides’ local 24/7 streaming guide.

Other ways to run prepared content
Each approach trades hands-on control for different operating responsibilities. The right choice depends on whether you want to manage the encoder yourself, how you handle failures, and what playlist changes your workflow needs.
| Approach | Playlist and broadcast operation | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo — cloud playout | Upload videos, arrange a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. See StreamNeo. | No home computer has to stay on. Each slot streams uploaded media as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; the service is for YouTube only. |
| OBS with local files and VLC | OBS sends the local playlist as the program feed. Playback controls and broadcast connectivity need separate checks; live playlist edits may not apply consistently, according to the anecdotal forum report. | Hands-on control with less dependence on a managed playout vendor, but the host, files, software, power, and internet must remain available. Test playlist reloads instead of assuming they work. |
| Self-hosted FFmpeg on a VPS | A process can loop prepared files and send output to YouTube RTMP. One public Ubuntu example uses normalized media, FFmpeg looping, and systemd supervision: the operator’s implementation. | Scriptability and control require Linux and FFmpeg skills, monitoring, storage, and server administration. The repository is one operator’s example, not an independently tested prescription. |
| Other managed cloud playout | Commercial vendors describe playlist editing and reconnect or restart functions, including Looping Stream and Streamloop. | Less dependence on a home PC, but behavior, limits, current pricing, and recovery claims depend on the vendor. Verify them with your YouTube setup before moving a valuable stream. |
Across options, check whether edits can take effect without ending the public broadcast, who monitors the encoder, how failures are detected and recovered, what technical skills are needed, what storage and quality limits apply, and what ongoing cost you will incur. Vendor or operator claims about reconnects and uptime are not independent test results; test the behavior that matters to your channel.
