Set up and test the channel before starting, monitor the stream while it is live, and do not rely on YouTube to archive a single stream that lasts 24 hours: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
What Streamlabs Desktop can—and cannot—do for a 24/7 stream
Streamlabs Desktop is a computer-based encoder: it sends the video and audio sources you configure to YouTube. Streamlabs lists support for Windows 10 and later and macOS 12 and later, and its connected-account workflow does not require you to enter a stream key manually. That does not make a local computer an unattended cloud broadcaster. If the PC shuts down, Streamlabs stops, the network drops, or the power supply fails, the broadcast can be interrupted. A 24/7 schedule therefore also needs a plan for keeping the computer and connection available, checking stream health, and recovering from interruptions.
This approach suits a creator who wants to control scenes and sources on a local PC. If the goal is to loop prerecorded video without leaving a dedicated computer running, YouTube’s encoder guide also names cloud 24/7 streaming services, including StreamNeo, Gyre and Upstream. Their capabilities and terms differ; check current availability and conditions before choosing one.

1. Make sure the YouTube channel can go live
Before installing or configuring the encoder, confirm that the channel is eligible. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder guide. Enable the feature well before the planned launch rather than discovering an activation delay on the day.
2. Install Streamlabs Desktop and connect YouTube

Install a Streamlabs Desktop version compatible with your computer: Streamlabs lists Windows 10+ and macOS 12+ for its YouTube workflow. Use the current download and setup instructions from Streamlabs.

In Streamlabs Desktop, connect your YouTube account through the account-connection workflow. Streamlabs says this integrated setup does not require manually copying in a stream key. If you choose a different encoder workflow, follow YouTube’s instructions for the selected method rather than assuming the account connection and stream-key paths are interchangeable.

Configure the video and audio sources you intend to broadcast. Check that the correct scene is selected, audio reaches the mixer, and the picture is visible in the encoder preview before going live. The exact scene and source setup depends on whether you are broadcasting a game, a presentation, or another feed.

Start with an unlisted or otherwise low-risk test. Open YouTube Live Control Room, confirm that the preview appears, and check YouTube’s stream-health indicators before relying on the setup for a long broadcast. YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips recommend checking and continuously monitoring audio and video quality.
3. Keep the local setup available for the full broadcast
Power and computer
The PC running Streamlabs Desktop must stay on, awake and connected for the stream to continue. Check power settings so the computer does not sleep or shut down during the broadcast, and make sure it has adequate cooling for sustained use. A UPS for the PC and networking equipment can help through a brief power interruption if its capacity and runtime suit the equipment load; it cannot prevent an internet outage or guarantee continuity after its battery runs down.
Internet connection
The computer needs a working upload path to YouTube throughout the broadcast. Check the connection you actually plan to use, including any data-plan limits, and verify it during a test stream. The official YouTube and Streamlabs guidance cited here does not establish India-specific ISP reliability, data limits, or equipment requirements, so assess those for your location and plan.
Monitoring and recovery
Keep a way to check YouTube Live Control Room and Streamlabs during the broadcast. YouTube advises creators to “Continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality” in its live-streaming tips. A stream-health check helps you notice a problem; it is not proof that a particular Streamlabs setup will reconnect automatically. YouTube’s failover instructions describe testing a deliberate backup-encoder setup—for example, stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable and checking the backup player. That is not an automatic backup feature established for a single-PC Streamlabs installation.

4. Decide how you will keep a recording
Do not treat a 24/7 YouTube broadcast as a reliable archive. YouTube’s archive guidance says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube’s separate DVR guidance says rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.
For a local backup

Enable local recording in your encoder settings if you need a copy independent of YouTube’s archive.

Check available disk space for the intended duration and quality; storage use depends on your recording settings, so there is no single safe capacity figure for every setup.

During the broadcast, confirm that the recording file exists and is growing. YouTube’s live-stream tips recommend checking that the local file is being written.

If a complete YouTube archive matters
One option to evaluate is planning broadcast restarts at intervals under 12 hours. This may help avoid the documented over-12-hour archive limitation, but it is not a guarantee of a complete archive and may affect the channel’s format, audience experience or operations. Test the restart plan and confirm that the resulting broadcasts and recordings meet your needs.
