1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo keep a YouTube Live stream running around the clock at 4K and 60fps, first decide whether you are looping prerecorded video or broadcasting a live camera or production feed. Prerecorded video can run through a cloud playout service; a live feed needs an encoder capable of sustained 2160p60 output. In either case, plan for network, power and equipment failures: no setting alone can guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
Choose the right 24/7 workflow
Loop prerecorded video
If you want gameplay recordings or other existing videos to play continuously, use a cloud playout service or keep a local computer running an encoder and playlist. YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud tool for continuous prerecorded streams and describes support for 4K at 30/60 FPS. That is the vendor description in YouTube’s directory, not independent reliability testing; check the service’s current terms, loop behavior, content rights and recovery process before relying on it. YouTube’s encoder directory
For a YouTube-only option designed to loop uploaded videos from the cloud, StreamNeo lets you upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key and go live. Your computer can then be off while the cloud keeps the stream running. StreamNeo does not broadcast from a camera.
Broadcast a live camera, game or production feed
A live feed must be captured and encoded continuously. YouTube describes software encoders as an option for screen sharing and advanced productions, and dedicated hardware encoders as an option for higher-production events. Its documentation does not certify a particular encoder for unattended 24/7 duty. Choose based on supported input, codec, sustained 2160p60 capability, cooling, recovery options and your ability to monitor it. YouTube’s encoder guidance

Set the encoder for 4K at 60fps
YouTube’s current encoder settings specify these recommended ingest bitrates for 2160p at 60fps. They are recommendations for the feed sent to YouTube, not a guarantee that every viewer will receive 4K playback in every circumstance. YouTube’s encoder settings
| Ingest codec | Recommended bitrate | Minimum bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
- Select a codec your encoder supports and use the bitrate row for that codec; do not apply one codec’s recommendation to another.
- Set bitrate control to constant bitrate (CBR).
- Set the keyframe interval to two seconds; do not exceed four seconds.
- Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS.
- YouTube accepts H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 and supports up to 60fps. It transcodes the incoming feed into multiple output formats.
- At 4K, YouTube’s low-latency mode is unavailable; the stream is set to normal latency.
If your upload connection cannot reliably sustain the recommended rate, lower the output resolution or frame rate, or improve the connection. A high download speed does not establish that your upload can carry a continuous 4K60 feed.

Budget upload bandwidth and plan for a failure
YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. If you use primary and backup encoders, plan for both feeds plus that margin. Other users and devices on the same connection can reduce the capacity available to the encoder. YouTube cautions: “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” Encoder settings · Streaming tips
- Measure upload performance during the hours and conditions when the stream will run.
- Use a wired connection for the production encoder where practical. YouTube does not quantify a wired-versus-wireless reliability gain, but network interruptions can break a stream.
- Consider whether a separate connection or backup path is justified by the cost of an outage.
- If you configure a backup encoder, ensure your available upload bandwidth can carry the primary and backup feeds together with the recommended headroom.
YouTube recommends testing failover rather than assuming it works. Stop the primary encoder or unplug its Ethernet cable, then confirm the player rolls over to the backup. A backup that has not been tested is not a verified recovery path. YouTube’s live-streaming tips

Set up, test and monitor the stream
- Prepare the encoder and source. Confirm the source is genuinely 2160p60 if that is the intended output, and that the encoder can sustain it. Test with motion and audio similar to the real program.
- Connect it to YouTube. Create or open the stream in YouTube’s live-streaming workflow, copy its stream key into the encoder, and start sending the feed. The key routes the encoder feed so YouTube can accept it. Create a live stream with an encoder
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password and limit access to it and to channel permissions. If the key is compromised, an owner or manager can reset it in YouTube’s live-stream settings; update the encoder with the new key. Manage live-stream settings
- Check the preview and stream health. Inspect the Live Control Room preview and health indicators, then confirm the public watch page plays as expected before leaving the stream unattended.
- Verify recordings and failover. If you record locally, confirm the file is valid and continues to grow. Test the backup encoder and check that playback rolls over as expected.
- Monitor audio and video. YouTube’s operating guidance calls for continuous monitoring. For a 24/7 channel, provide staff coverage or automated alerts appropriate to how quickly you need to detect an outage.
These checks reduce the chance of an unnoticed problem; they cannot eliminate failures in the encoder, power supply or upstream network.
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its documentation does not promise a complete automatic archive for a single 24-hour stream. If preserving the program matters, test a local recording or use shorter sessions and verify what appears in your channel’s archive. YouTube does not prescribe a particular segmentation strategy for 24/7 channels. Create a live stream with an encoder

Check rights and YouTube’s live-stream rules
Streaming your own gameplay recordings does not automatically settle every rights question: music, cutscenes, footage and other material in a video may belong to someone else. Before looping a recording, confirm you have the rights and permissions needed for the content and music it contains. A continuous loop also does not by itself establish eligibility for monetization; review YouTube’s current policies for the channel and content. For a practical preflight, use StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist.
Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stream drops or repeatedly disconnects | Upload capacity is insufficient or unstable, the connection is shared, or the network path is interrupted. | Measure upload under operating conditions, account for the primary and backup feeds plus 20% headroom, and check other traffic on the connection. |
| 4K60 feed is unstable | The encoder or connection cannot sustain the selected codec’s recommended bitrate. | Verify the codec and bitrate pair, confirm sustained encoder capability, and reduce resolution or frame rate if necessary. |
| Backup does not take over | Failover behavior has not been configured or tested successfully. | Run YouTube’s suggested test by stopping the primary or unplugging its Ethernet cable, then confirm the player rolls over. |
| Stream has no sound or picture issues go unnoticed | Monitoring is absent or the source/encoder has failed. | Inspect preview and stream health before launch; arrange continuous audio and video monitoring or suitable alerts. |
| Encoder can no longer connect after a key reset | The encoder still has the old stream key. | Copy the current key from YouTube’s live-stream settings into the encoder and restrict access to it. |
| Expected 24-hour archive is missing or incomplete | A single run exceeded YouTube’s documented automatic archive condition of streams under 12 hours. | Check the channel archive, validate a local recording, or test shorter sessions if a complete archive is essential. |
