To keep a YouTube Live promo loop running through a power cut, keep every device in its transmission path powered: the computer or encoder, modem or ONT, router, and any required network switch or access point. Size a compatible inverter or UPS and battery for the actual load and the runtime you need, then test the whole stream during a simulated outage. A battery can keep your equipment on, but it cannot guarantee that your ISP’s upstream network will remain available.
What has to stay on for the stream to continue?
A YouTube Live stream depends on more than the promo video or the public watch page. The device playing and encoding the video must keep transmitting over a working internet connection. Map the complete path from the promo loop to YouTube before choosing a backup.
- Streaming computer or hardware encoder: it plays or receives the loop and sends the stream. A powered router alone cannot keep a computer-based promo loop going.
- Network equipment: include the modem or fiber ONT, router, and any switch or access point the stream needs.
- Other required equipment: include a camera or audio device only if the particular setup relies on it.
If the loop is transmitted from a phone, the phone and its mobile-data path become the relevant equipment. Do not assume that changing devices during a live event preserves the same session; test that transition beforehand.
Choose an inverter or UPS for the actual load
First list the devices that need backup and record their watt draw or manufacturer input ratings. Then choose a system whose output fits the load and whose battery runtime is specified for a comparable load and the outage-bridging time you want.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Measure or verify the load. Include the encoder or computer and every network device you intend to keep on.
- Check both watts and VA. They are different limits. APC’s UPS buying guide explains that watts measure real power while VA is voltage multiplied by current, and that the UPS’s watt capacity should exceed the attached equipment load.
- Compare runtime at a similar load. More connected equipment reduces available runtime. A larger VA figure on its own does not tell you how long the system will run.
- Check compatibility and installation. Confirm output, transfer behavior, battery and charging arrangements, and installation requirements with the manufacturer or a qualified local installer.
For context, Microtek’s product page lists an Energy Saver UPS 1025 12V inverter with a 150Ah battery, rated 925VA, and identifies a laptop and Wi-Fi router among supported loads. That example does not establish how long it will run a particular streaming computer or a complete shop setup. Runtime depends on connected load, battery condition and capacity, and system behavior. Check current product details and suitability with Microtek or a qualified local installer: Microtek Energy Saver UPS 1025 12V and 150Ah battery.
When a router mini UPS may be enough
A small router UPS may be appropriate for network equipment only. Check that its voltage, polarity, connector, and current match each device, and make sure the modem or ONT is covered too. It does not power the streaming computer or encoder unless those devices are separately backed up.

Keep internet continuity as a separate problem
A local battery can keep your equipment running; it cannot keep an ISP’s upstream network powered or available. YouTube warns in its streaming tips that “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” Ask your ISP whether the access equipment serving your location continues operating during power cuts, then verify the connection at the shop.
A phone hotspot or second ISP can be a contingency, but a second subscription by itself does not prove the route will work during an outage. Test the alternate connection at the location, with the intended encoder and promo loop, and check YouTube’s stream health. If you may switch connections during a live stream, test that specific change rather than assuming it will work without interruption.

Configure and test YouTube before relying on the loop
Use an encoder configuration suited to your upload capacity. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and testing the setup. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for settings appropriate to your stream; do not choose a bitrate that leaves too little capacity for a stable connection.
- Run the planned promo loop through the actual encoder. Check that the source keeps playing and that the encoder connects.
- Check YouTube’s preview and stream health. Look for connection problems before relying on the stream during an outage.
- Verify the public stream. Open the channel or watch page and check that the player is accessible, including on a phone.
- Simulate a power interruption. With the system set up as it will be at the shop, interrupt mains power and confirm that each backed-up device stays on and the public stream continues.
- Test any alternate encoder or connection separately. Confirm that the intended fallback actually takes over and the viewer’s player continues.
What YouTube encoder failover can and cannot do
YouTube’s encoder failover is a separate resilience feature for a configured backup encoder. YouTube’s live streaming tips say to test it by stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable and confirming that the player rolls over to the backup. This does not replace power or network backup: if both encoders rely on the same unpowered equipment or the same failed internet link, they share that failure point.

Compare backup approaches by more than capacity
When assessing a UPS, inverter and battery, router backup, or a tested alternate connection, compare the details that determine whether it will actually keep your stream available.
- Which devices it powers, including the full network chain.
- Its rated output in both watts and VA.
- Runtime at a load comparable to your measured setup.
- Transfer behavior and compatibility with the connected equipment.
- Battery type, recharge, replacement, and service arrangements.
- Whether the internet path has an independent contingency.
- Installation and safety requirements for the shop.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the promo is an uploaded video rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is a cloud service that keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay powered at home or at the shop for the loop to continue. It supports the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
