Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Start with OBS’s Media Source pointed at the local video, enable Loop, and make sure its audio reaches the stream’s active mixer. Before going live, test a private or unlisted YouTube stream and a local recording at the beginning, middle, end, and immediately after the loop. A constant offset may be adjustable; drift that grows over time or appears at the loop boundary needs diagnosis rather than an arbitrary audio delay.
Check the video file before setting up OBS
Play the file locally from beginning to end and listen for sync at the opening, near the end, and as playback returns to the start. If the file has a gap, mismatched audio and video duration, or a discontinuity at its end, looping it in OBS will not make the content seamless. OBS documents looping playback, but there is no universal file-preparation recipe that guarantees seamless loops across all codecs and players.
Set up a looping source in OBS
- Add the file: In your scene, add a Media Source and select the local video file. OBS Media Source supports local video and audio formats; check the OBS documentation for the current supported formats: OBS Media Sources.
- Enable the loop: In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS restarts the file after playback completes.
- Check its audio route: Play the source and watch the OBS Audio Mixer. Confirm the source is not muted and that its audio is reaching the mix used for the stream. If you use audio monitoring, listen for sync there too; monitoring is useful for diagnosis, not a fix by itself. See OBS Audio Mixer.
- For a playlist: Use the VLC Video source and its loop-playlist setting if you need to cycle through multiple files. VLC must be installed. For a single file, Media Source is the direct option.
Test the whole stream, including the loop point
Use the same file, OBS scene, frame rate, encoder, audio path, and approximate stream duration planned for the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement representative of the planned stream, then monitoring stream health and messages during the event: YouTube Help: Verify your encoder setup.
- Make a local OBS recording and inspect sync at the beginning, middle, end, and first moments after the loop restarts.
- Listen to the OBS monitoring path, if enabled, but also inspect the recording: monitoring alone does not confirm what the encoder recorded.
- Run a private or unlisted YouTube test stream and check the received stream at the same points. This tests the complete path, not just local playback.
- Note whether the error is constant, grows during playback, or appears only at the loop boundary. Make one targeted change at a time and repeat the full test.
Diagnose the kind of sync error you see
| Symptom | What to inspect | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The same delay is present from start to finish. | Determine whether the affected audio is the Media Source or another source in the mix. | Measure the offset and adjust the relevant source’s sync timing in small increments. Retest the entire playback and loop; avoid delaying all audio when only one source is affected. |
| The mismatch grows as the file plays. | Inspect source timestamps, file encoding, decoder load, CPU/GPU pressure, and audio sample-rate consistency. | Test the file and source path separately, then repeat an end-to-end test. The reviewed official guidance does not establish one cause or a universal corrective value for every file. |
| Sync is good during playback but wrong at each restart. | Check the file’s end/start timing and how playback behaves at the restart. | Address the loop transition or source file. A fixed offset cannot remove a discontinuity that occurs only at the boundary. |
| OBS reports dropped frames or an unstable connection. | Check connection stability and whether the upload link can sustain the selected bitrate. | Resolve the network or bitrate issue, then test sync again. OBS identifies dropped frames as a connection-instability or unsustainable-bitrate symptom; that alone does not prove the cause of audio drift. See OBS: Dropped Frames and General Connection Issues. |
Choose YouTube settings for 4K at 60 fps
YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies the following ingest settings. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that your computer or internet connection can sustain them. Confirm upload capacity and stability before selecting 4K60, then monitor stream health during the test.
