For a consistent YouTube Live store promotion, use music you own or a license that expressly permits livestream use in the territories you serve, then loop one file in OBS or play a fixed-order VLC playlist. Test the stream’s audio and the loop transition before going public, and monitor YouTube Studio while live. A loop setting keeps playback repeating; it does not grant music rights or guarantee a gapless transition.
Choose music cleared for the livestream
You are responsible for having the rights needed to use music in live content. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; an unaddressed match can cause the stream to show a placeholder, be interrupted, or be terminated. Even if you have licensed a track, a match may interrupt the stream unless the rights owner has added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the owner about allowlisting before the promotion and keep written confirmation with your stream notes. YouTube’s terms describe the rights responsibility; YouTube’s live-content guidance explains matching and allowlisting.
Check the actual license for livestream use, the countries where the promotion will be available, and whether the archived stream is covered. A “free” or “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that the intended use is permitted. YouTube points creators to its Audio Library, original music, or appropriately licensed third-party music, but you still need to review the applicable terms. YouTube Audio Library guidance discusses music options and copyright considerations.
Do not treat Creator Music as permission for a livestream: YouTube says its licensing options currently do not support live content. A license or revenue-sharing option for an uploaded long-form video does not by itself establish livestream rights. Creator Music information and its usage guidance set out the limitation.

Pick a playback setup that fits the promo
| Setup | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| One local file in an OBS Media Source | A simple, repeatable music bed | Enable Loop. The file restarts when it ends, so check whether its ending and restart sound suitable. |
| VLC Video source playlist in OBS | Several tracks in a planned sequence | VLC must be installed. Enable Loop Playlist; leave Shuffle Playlist off for a predictable order. Test track changes and playlist wrap. |
| Third-party music service or catalog | A store that needs to license suitable music | Verify explicit livestream permission, territory coverage, archived-video use, Content ID handling, and whether the channel can be allowlisted. |
Set up a single looping track in OBS
- Prepare the file. Choose a rights-cleared local audio file and retain the license, invoice, or permission details. OBS documents support for MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV audio.
- Add it to the promo scene. In OBS Studio, select the scene used for the store promotion, choose Sources > + > Media Source, create or select a source, and browse to the audio file.
- Enable repeat playback. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop, then confirm the source is active in the scene. OBS’s Media Sources guide describes the source and its playback controls.
- Set and verify the mix. Play the scene, watch the OBS audio mixer meter, and listen to the stream preview. Set a stable music level that works with any other audio in the promotion; do not assume the software or YouTube automatically normalizes it.
- Test the ending and restart. Make an unlisted or otherwise private test if appropriate. Listen through the viewer-facing output as the file ends and loops. The loop control does not establish that an arbitrary file will transition without a gap or audible change.
Set up a planned multi-track loop
- Install VLC. OBS requires VLC to be installed for its VLC Video source to appear.
- Create the source. In the promo scene, use Sources > + > VLC Video Source and add the tracks in the desired order. OBS documents the playlist source in its VLC Video Source guide.
- Set repeat and order. Enable Loop Playlist. Leave Shuffle Playlist off when viewers should hear the same sequence each time.
- Check transitions in the actual setup. Play through at least one track change and the end of the playlist in a test stream. The documented controls do not guarantee gapless playback between arbitrary files.
Monitor the live promotion
- Before going public, confirm the intended scene is active, the audio reaches the stream output, and the chosen loop or playlist continues past a track ending.
- During the stream, monitor OBS’s audio meter and the viewer-facing output, especially after track changes or a playlist wrap.
- Watch YouTube Studio for copyright warnings, claims, or stream interruptions. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring of encoder streams; see its live encoder streaming guidance.
- If you licensed third-party music and a match appears, contact the rights owner about adding your channel to the Content ID allowlist. A loop setting cannot resolve a rights match.
Troubleshoot common continuity problems
| What you notice | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The music stops when the file ends | Loop is not enabled, or the active source is not the one configured to repeat. | Open the Media Source properties, enable Loop, and test playback through the ending again. |
| The playlist order changes | Shuffle Playlist is enabled. | Disable Shuffle Playlist and verify the order in a test. |
| A playlist source is unavailable in OBS | VLC is not installed. | Install VLC, restart or reopen OBS if needed, then add the VLC Video source. |
| The music is absent from the live output | The source may not be active in the live scene, or the audio may not be reaching the stream mix. | Check the active scene and mixer meter, then listen to a private or unlisted stream test. |
| YouTube interrupts the stream or displays a placeholder | A third-party content match may have been detected. | Review YouTube Studio and resolve the rights issue with the rights owner; if the track is licensed, ask about Content ID allowlisting. |
| A loop or track change has a pause or audible jump | The selected file or playlist transition may not be seamless. | Test the specific files and setup before the promotion; choose a better-fitting ending or sequence if needed. No gapless transition is guaranteed. |
