YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for an individual viewer; it does not loop the incoming audio in your live broadcast. Preview the stream and check its audio before going live, and use music licensed for live broadcasting.
Where the loop has to happen
YouTube’s Loop control is for viewers
YouTube’s Loop feature repeats a video or playlist during playback for the person watching. It does not control the creator’s live feed or keep music playing in an encoder.
Repeat the audio in the outgoing source
Your encoder or media source sends the audio that viewers hear. Configure the source or playlist feeding that encoder to repeat the music, then confirm that the repeated audio is part of the live preview. The exact controls depend on the encoder or media player you use; YouTube’s documentation does not specify a universal menu path for looping audio in third-party software.
Set up and check the live feed
- Choose the audio source. Use music you created or music whose terms allow live broadcast. Check whether the permission also covers your territory, monetization, and an archived replay.
- Enable repetition in the source or playlist. Set the media source or playlist feeding the encoder to repeat. Do not rely on a viewer’s YouTube Loop control to affect the live broadcast.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and preview the feed. Confirm that audio is audible and that the video and sound behave as expected before starting the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing the stream and checking it from channel or watch pages and mobile devices.
- Monitor the stream while live. Keep an eye on the audio and video quality, and check that the source continues to play after it reaches the end of a track or playlist.
- Leave network headroom. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom over your total stream bitrate. This is preparation, not a guarantee against a connection failure.
YouTube’s live streaming tips cover previewing and monitoring the broadcast. Your encoder’s current instructions are the right place to confirm how its repeat or playlist controls work.

Use music that can stay in a livestream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It says a detected match may cause the stream to be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated. YouTube also says that licensed creators may need the rights holder to add their channel to an allowlist. A license does not necessarily stop an automated interruption on its own.
YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” Its livestream terms require providers to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights.

Music options to check
- YouTube Audio Library: YouTube describes its library as offering copyright-safe music and sound effects. Check the applicable track terms.
- Your own original music: Use it only if you control the rights needed for the stream and any replay.
- Creator Music: YouTube identifies this as an option for monetized videos in certain regions. Availability and terms vary, so verify that the specific track and terms fit your use.
- Third-party licensed music: Confirm that the license explicitly covers continuous live broadcast, relevant territories, monetization if applicable, and archived playback. Ask the rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted.
A “free” label or a credit in your description is not proof that a track is cleared for livestreaming. YouTube cautions that music licensed or purchased elsewhere may not be recognized by Content ID automatically.
Troubleshoot music that stops or disappears
- The music ends when the track finishes: The repeat setting may be on the viewer-side YouTube player rather than the media source or playlist feeding your encoder. Check the source’s loop behavior and test it through the Live Control Room preview.
- The music is missing in the preview: Check that the intended audio source is active and audible in the encoder’s outgoing feed. Preview before going live rather than assuming local playback is being sent to YouTube.
- The live stream is interrupted after music starts: Check YouTube’s live-stream copyright notifications. A third-party match can interrupt a stream; contact the rights holder about allowlisting if you have a valid license.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check your upload connection and bitrate, and leave the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. Network disruption can break a stream; headroom reduces avoidable strain but cannot prevent an outage.
- The replay has a rights issue even though the live audio worked: Recheck whether your permission covers archived playback as well as live broadcast. Music rights can differ by use and territory.
