OBS has no playlist-specific setting that guarantees a long YouTube stream will stay connected. When OBS reports network-dropped frames or intermittent disconnections, its guidance points first to the connection between your computer and YouTube’s ingest server—not to the playlist itself. Check OBS’s connection indicators and YouTube’s stream-health messages, then test whether your network can sustain the configured bitrate. Work through the checks below in order; they can reduce risk and help identify a cause, but none guarantees an uninterrupted stream.
First, identify what is actually failing
While live, check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and connection status, then compare them with YouTube’s stream-health messages. OBS says network-dropped frames and intermittent disconnections generally indicate an issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. A playlist running for a long time does not, by itself, establish the cause.
- OBS shows network-dropped frames or loses its connection: investigate upload capacity, the local network, software that affects networking, and the route to the ingest server.
- Viewers report buffering but OBS shows no dropped frames: do not assume the encoder-to-YouTube connection is the cause. Viewer-side buffering can require a different investigation.
- The failure happens after a repeatable runtime: note the time, OBS log symptoms, dropped-frame counts, bitrate, network type, and YouTube stream-health messages during a preflight or subsequent attempt. Those observations can help narrow the diagnosis; they do not prove the playlist caused the issue.
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide describes this symptom as a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. YouTube likewise recommends testing and monitoring stream health rather than assuming a particular cause. YouTube’s live-streaming encoder guidance explains its stream-health checks.
Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
A speed-test result is a snapshot, not proof that your upload connection can hold the same rate continuously. If OBS’s video bitrate exceeds stable upload capacity, frames may drop; enough lost frames can lead to a disconnection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check your upload speed and consider the stability of the connection during the hours you plan to stream.
- Compare that capacity with the video bitrate configured in OBS. If the connection cannot reliably sustain it, lower the OBS video bitrate and test again.
- As a starting point—not a YouTube specification or a guarantee—OBS’s troubleshooting guide suggests setting video bitrate to about 75% of total upload speed. Treat that as a rule of thumb and leave room for instability and other network use.
The 75% recommendation appears in the OBS Project guide dated September 30, 2024. A brief speed-test peak does not establish that the connection will sustain the bitrate for an entire playlist session.
Run a realistic preflight before the playlist
YouTube advises testing before going live with movement and audio similar to the planned stream, then checking stream health and messages. A test that resembles the actual playlist is more useful than a static screen if the real content has frequent scene changes or audio.

- Start a test stream using the same OBS profile, encoder settings, bitrate, network connection, and stream key setup you intend to use.
- Play representative playlist material, including audio and movement similar to the live session.
- Watch OBS’s connection status and dropped-frame counter while also checking YouTube’s stream-health messages.
- If the test shows network-dropped frames, reduce bitrate or change one network condition at a time, then repeat the test.
YouTube’s instruction is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” See YouTube’s encoder setup and troubleshooting guidance.
Test the connection path from simplest to more involved
Switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet if possible
OBS recommends trying a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. If you are using Wi-Fi, connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet and repeat the preflight. This is a diagnostic change, not proof that the router, ISP, or route to YouTube is healthy. OBS does not specify a required cable category.

Check OBS network options without changing everything at once
- Bind to IP: leave this at Default, as OBS recommends.
- Network optimizations and TCP pacing: OBS lists these as Windows-only options that some users report can help. Test them individually so you can tell whether a change matters.
- IPv4-only: you can test it as a diagnostic option. If it makes no difference, return to the default IPv4 and IPv6 setting.
- Dynamic bitrate: this can reduce bitrate in response to congestion, but it is a fallback rather than a root-cause fix and can lower video quality.
These options are described in the OBS guide to dropped frames and connection issues. The available options and labels can depend on your OBS version and operating system.
Isolate software and equipment
OBS lists VPNs, security software, bundled network-optimization utilities, outdated network drivers, and faulty network equipment among possible causes. Change one variable at a time:

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Temporarily test whether a VPN or network-optimization utility is affecting the connection.
- Check security-software rules for OBS. If a diagnostic test points to interference, restore protection and add an OBS exception where appropriate rather than leaving security software disabled.
- Check for outdated network drivers.
- Inspect or test the router, modem, network cable, network interface, and other network devices. Replace equipment only when testing points to a fault.
If OBS still disconnects
If the checks do not resolve the problem, contact your ISP. Provide the times of the disconnects and the symptoms you recorded, including bitrate, OBS dropped-frame counts, network type, and YouTube stream-health messages. OBS notes that congestion or routing problems may be outside your direct control. Neither a bitrate adjustment nor a particular OBS option guarantees a stable long-duration stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube playlist live without relying on the computer and home connection to stay online, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is for uploaded video playback to YouTube, not a camera stream.
