What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Minimizing OBS Studio should hide its interface, not tell YouTube to stop receiving your stream. If the picture freezes when you minimize something, first identify whether you minimized OBS itself or the game, browser, or other app OBS is capturing. Those are different problems: hiding OBS can be handled with its system-tray options, while a captured app may stop being captured when minimized, depending on your operating system, OBS version, and source type.
First identify what is actually pausing
There are three symptoms to distinguish before changing settings:
- OBS is hidden, but YouTube keeps playing: the stream is still running; only the OBS interface is out of sight.
- The OBS preview or YouTube picture freezes after minimizing the captured app: the active capture source or the target app’s behavior is the likely issue.
- YouTube reports that the stream has ended or lost its connection: investigate the encoder connection and stream status, rather than treating it as a preview-only problem.
A frozen local preview alone does not prove that YouTube stopped receiving video. Check the live output separately in YouTube Studio or on another device. OBS’s scene and sources determine what is sent to the stream; the OBS window being visible is a separate matter. OBS Studio Overview Guide
Hide OBS without minimizing the captured app
If you only want OBS out of the way while it streams, use its system tray rather than minimizing the game or app that supplies the picture. OBS’s guide says to enable the system tray icon to hide OBS to the tray. In the English interface, related options include “Minimize to system tray when started” and “Always minimize to system tray instead of task bar.” The exact setting labels and location can differ by version.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open OBS settings and enable the system tray icon, if it is not already enabled.
- If your installed version offers it, enable the minimize-to-tray option you want. Use the available setting labels in your build; they may not match older screenshots.
- Minimize OBS and confirm that its tray icon remains available. Do not also minimize the game or other captured app during this test.
These settings hide the OBS interface; they do not change what a source captures. OBS describes adding sources—such as windows, games, capture cards, or displays—to a scene as the way to choose what to capture. OBS Studio Overview Guide · OBS Studio English interface strings
If the stream freezes when you minimize the game or app
Restore the target app and test again. If its picture returns, the trigger is likely the interaction between that app, the capture method, and minimization—not the act of hiding OBS. Keep the target app open while streaming, or test another suitable capture source. Game Capture and Display Capture are distinct OBS source types, but neither is guaranteed to work with every application and operating system.

- Restore the minimized target app and check whether motion returns in the OBS preview.
- Identify the current source type in the scene: window capture, game capture, or display capture.
- When appropriate for the content and system, test a suitable Game Capture or Display Capture source. Change only the source being tested so the result is clear.
- If minimizing the target still freezes the picture, leave that app open while streaming and use OBS’s tray option to hide the OBS interface instead.
OBS’s documentation distinguishes source visibility in the scene from the OBS window itself being visible, but it does not establish a universal guarantee for every minimized-window capture path. Results depend on the app, capture source, operating system, and OBS build. OBS developer reference: scenes and sources

- Start a private or unlisted stream and confirm that YouTube receives a moving picture.
- Watch the live feed from a second device, not only the OBS preview.
- Minimize OBS alone and check whether the YouTube feed continues.
- Restore OBS, then minimize only the captured app and check again.
- Record which action caused the symptom, which source type is active, and what OBS and YouTube report.
Changing one window at a time makes it easier to tell whether the local preview froze, the actual YouTube playback froze, or the encoder disconnected.
Troubleshoot a stream that really stops
- Only the preview freezes: check YouTube playback from another device before concluding that the stream has stopped.
- The picture freezes when the target app is minimized: restore the app, then test an appropriate capture source or keep the target open.
- YouTube indicates a lost connection or ended stream: inspect OBS’s stream status and YouTube Live Control Room. Note the time and the action that preceded the interruption.
- OBS reports rendering or encoding trouble: treat that as a separate performance problem. OBS notes that 60-fps streaming can be demanding; check system capacity and diagnostics before changing settings. Minimizing alone does not establish that performance is the cause. OBS streaming guidance
- The issue persists: collect an OBS log and include it when asking for help. OBS recommends logs for support requests. OBS: Uploading a log file
