Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Use two separate things: share your channel’s YouTube Live page as the recurring destination for viewers, and reuse a custom stream key in YouTube Studio for your encoder. The stream key sends video to YouTube; it is not the viewer-facing URL. A scheduled stream has its own watch page for advance promotion, so it is not interchangeable with the channel Live page.
Know which link you need
| What you need | Use | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| A recurring destination for viewers | Your channel’s Live page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/CHANNEL_ID/live |
Directs viewers to the channel’s current live destination. Treat it as the practical recurring link, not a guarantee that YouTube will keep the URL unchanged forever. |
| A credential for your encoder | A custom stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room | Lets the encoder send its feed to YouTube. Keep it private; it is not a link to share with viewers. |
| An advance event page | A scheduled stream’s watch page | Lets you promote an upcoming broadcast and invite reminders. It is specific to that scheduled event. |
YouTube also lets you reuse prior stream settings. Reusing settings can carry forward metadata and a stream key, but it does not turn an event watch page into the channel Live URL.
Set up a prerecorded loop with a reusable key
- Check live eligibility. YouTube’s current help page lists channel verification and no live-stream restriction in the past 90 days as prerequisites. Eligibility and limits can change, so check your channel status and current Studio guidance before planning a broadcast.
- Open the encoder workflow. In YouTube Studio, select Go Live, then use the Stream workflow for an encoder-based broadcast. In Live Control Room, create a custom stream key if you want a dedicated key for recurring sessions. YouTube’s guidance says to create a custom stream key to reuse the same key.
- Configure your encoder. Select YouTube as the destination, or enter the stream URL shown in Live Control Room, then enter the custom stream key. Set the encoder to play and loop your prerecorded file; the exact loop control depends on the encoder you choose, and YouTube’s general encoder instructions do not specify software-specific loop steps.
- Choose a transport option. If your encoder supports RTMPS, use the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL. Otherwise, follow the connection details shown for your encoder in Studio.
- Decide whether to schedule an event. For a broadcast that needs an advance watch page, reminders, or event promotion, schedule it in Live Control Room and share that event page. For people looking for the current broadcast, share the channel Live page instead.
- Preview and test before going public. Check the Live Control Room preview and monitor audio and video quality. YouTube’s streaming tips suggest setting up an encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event; these are YouTube recommendations, not universal technical requirements.
- Start the encoder and verify the broadcast. YouTube says the encoder feed creates a watch page when streaming begins. Confirm the stream is active in Studio, then check the channel Live page from a viewer’s perspective.
Protect the stream key and manage separate sessions
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not put it in a public description, screenshot, or viewer-facing link.
- If the key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement before the next broadcast.
- Stopping the encoder ends its feed. Plan separate broadcasts as separate sessions and confirm the current stream status in Studio rather than assuming the previous session is still active.
- YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not treat that as a guarantee that a continuous loop will remain one uninterrupted archive; check the current Studio status and archive behavior for your session.
Choose a setup that fits the production
- Software encoder: YouTube supports software encoders for an encoder-based workflow. This is appropriate when you want to run playback and looping in software on a computer.
- Standalone hardware encoder: YouTube also supports hardware encoders, which may suit higher-production setups. A hardware encoder is not required just to reuse a stream key or share a recurring channel link.
- Cloud-hosted prerecorded playback: StreamNeo is #1 for a hands-off 24/7 prerecorded YouTube loop: it runs from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price regardless of quality; if YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video streamed to YouTube, not a live camera feed. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
Troubleshoot common link and stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Viewers cannot use the stream key as a link | The key is an encoder credential, not a watch URL. | Share the channel Live page for the current destination, or the scheduled event page for advance promotion. |
| The encoder cannot connect | The key or ingest URL may be wrong, outdated, or no longer valid. | Copy the current stream URL and key from Live Control Room and update the encoder. If the key may have been exposed, reset it first. |
| The stream appears in Studio but the shared page is not the intended event | You may be sharing a scheduled event page when you mean the channel’s current Live destination, or vice versa. | Use the channel Live URL for the current channel destination; share the scheduled event’s watch page when promoting that particular upcoming broadcast. |
| The prerecorded file does not repeat | Looping is controlled by the selected encoder, not by the reusable YouTube key. | Check that encoder’s playback and repeat settings, then verify the output in Live Control Room preview before broadcasting. |
| Video or audio quality is poor | The encoder’s output or source playback may be wrong. | Test in advance, inspect the preview, and monitor both audio and video during the broadcast, following YouTube’s encoder guidance. |
Copyright and channel-policy checks still apply
A reusable key and a working loop do not grant rights to the video or music being broadcast. Use content you own or are authorized to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream rules before broadcasting. Eligibility can change, so check Live Control Room for account-specific restrictions.
