To kill a Drake in Dragon’s Dogma 2, attack its chest until its heart is exposed, then focus your damage on the heart. Use a stagger or knockdown to create a safer opening, climb only if you cannot reach the heart from the ground, and leave marked danger zones when the Drake begins area magic.
How to damage a Drake’s heart
- Start at the chest. Keep attacking the Drake’s chest; damage there can expose the heart, according to Windows Central’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 monster guide.
- Switch to the heart when it appears. The exposed heart is the Drake’s main weak point and the best target for your attacks. The opening is temporary, so use it promptly.
- Make an opening if needed. A stagger or knockdown gives you a better chance to hit the heart. If ground attacks cannot connect, climb into position and attack, while watching your stamina and the Drake’s next move. Gamer Guides’ Drake enemy guide also describes knockdowns and climbing as ways to make attacks easier.
This follows the game’s general weak-point advice: Capcom’s official PS5 web manual says, “Striking a foe’s weak point allows you to deal massive damage.”

How to avoid the Drake’s attacks
Do not commit to a long attack animation when the Drake is preparing an attack. Its moves include claws, tail sweeps, fire breath, and area magic. When an area attack marks the ground, move clear of the danger zone, then return to attacking when the opening is safe.
The Dragon’s Dogma Wiki’s Drake entry suggests that attacking during the fire-breath sequence can interrupt or stagger the Drake. Treat that as community-reference advice, not a guaranteed result; prioritize getting out of danger if you cannot safely reach it.

Which vocation or damage type should you use?
No single vocation or party setup is established as best for every Drake fight. Choose based on whether you can damage the heart and survive the openings you get. Capcom’s manual describes the vocations in general terms:
- Fighter: A close-range option with a shield for defense.
- Archer: A ranged attacker suited to precise shots.
- Mage: Can exploit elemental weaknesses and support the party with healing or enchantments.
Windows Central lists ice spells as a useful option against Drakes, but that does not make an ice-focused setup mandatory. Treat it as one possible approach rather than a universal build recommendation.
