An ASUS ROG Ally or ROG Ally X is a Windows gaming PC in handheld form, so it has no single “ROG Ally account.” You sign in to Windows, then separately authenticate with the services you want to use—such as Xbox, Steam, Epic Games, Ubisoft Connect, EA, or GOG. Armoury Crate SE can organize and launch games, but it does not replace those platforms’ accounts.
This guide covers Windows-based ROG Ally and ROG Ally X models. Some controller-first Xbox full-screen options depend on the model, Windows build, app version, and configuration.
First, identify which account you need
If you are unsure which sign-in screen you are looking at, start with the game or service you want to use:

- Windows desktop: Your Windows account, commonly a Microsoft account during initial setup.
- Microsoft Store: The Microsoft account used for Store purchases and licensing. It may not be the same account currently signed into the Xbox app.
- Xbox app or PC Game Pass: A Microsoft/Xbox account with the relevant PC game ownership or subscription entitlement.
- Steam, Epic, Ubisoft, EA, GOG, Battle.net: Each generally has its own account and authentication, even when a game was purchased through another store.
ASUS lists Steam, Xbox Game Pass, Epic Games Launcher, Ubisoft Connect, EA app, and GOG Galaxy among the platforms usable on the Ally. That is a list of examples, not a guarantee that every PC launcher is integrated into Armoury Crate SE. ASUS ROG Ally FAQ

What to have ready
- A working Wi-Fi connection. Hotel and public Wi-Fi may require opening a browser and completing a captive-portal sign-in first.
- The email or username and password for each service you plan to use.
- Access to your authenticator app, email, or phone for two-factor authentication.
- Time for Windows, ASUS, Microsoft Store, Xbox, and launcher updates to complete.
- Optional: a USB or Bluetooth keyboard if the touchscreen or on-screen keyboard makes passwords difficult to enter. A dock is not required.
Windows and launcher screens change over time, and exact button placement can vary by version. Look for the app’s account menu or Sign in button; in Windows Settings, search for “accounts” if a label differs.
1. Complete Windows sign-in
- Turn on the Ally and follow the first-run setup prompts for region, keyboard, accessibility, and Wi-Fi.
- When prompted, sign in with or create a Microsoft account. Setup requirements and screens can vary by Windows edition, region, build, and setup path.
- Create a Windows Hello PIN if offered, then let Windows and ASUS updates finish and restart if requested.
The PIN unlocks this Windows profile; it is not the Microsoft account password and does not sign you into Steam, Epic, or other game platforms. To review Windows identity and sign-in settings, open Start > Settings > Accounts. The Your info, Sign-in options, and Email & accounts areas cover different parts of the setup. Labels may vary slightly.
2. Sign into Microsoft Store and Xbox
Open the Xbox app from Start or Armoury Crate SE and select Sign in. Use the Microsoft/Xbox account that has the PC game entitlement or PC Game Pass subscription you intend to use. If the app asks for Microsoft Store access or the library looks wrong, check the account shown in the Store as well.

- Open the Microsoft Store account menu and note the signed-in address.
- Open the Xbox app account menu and note its address.
- If one is incorrect, sign out of that app and sign in with the account tied to the relevant PC entitlement.
- Restart the Ally, then check the Xbox library again.
A game bought for an Xbox console does not automatically include a Windows PC license in every case. PC availability depends on the title’s licensing, Xbox Play Anywhere support, or an applicable subscription catalog. Seeing the Xbox app installed does not itself mean a particular game is included.
3. Sign into Steam
- Open Steam from Armoury Crate SE or the Windows Start menu.
- Choose the option to sign into an existing account and enter the requested Steam account name, email, or phone number and password.
- Approve Steam Guard through the mobile app or email if prompted.
- Wait for the library to synchronize, then launch or install a game.
Steam purchases belong to the Steam account that owns them; your Windows Microsoft account does not authenticate Steam. A new device, password change, or unusual sign-in may trigger another Steam Guard check. If you want to play offline, prepare the client and game while online first; offline behavior varies by game and its DRM or update requirements.
4. Sign into Epic Games Store
- Open Epic Games Launcher from Start or Armoury Crate SE and choose Sign in.
- Use your Epic email and password, or a linked provider option displayed by the launcher.
- Complete two-factor authentication and wait for the library to load.
Before installing, check the displayed Epic account name and library. Choosing a provider such as Xbox, Google, or another supported sign-in method can open a different Epic account if that provider was never linked to the account you meant to use. Do not assume a blank or unfamiliar library means your games are gone; verify the account and purchase history first. 5. Sign into Ubisoft Connect and EA app
Ubisoft Connect: Install it through the platform section in Armoury Crate SE if offered, or from Ubisoft’s official source. Open it, choose Log in, enter your Ubisoft credentials, and complete any security check. A Ubisoft game purchased through Steam or Epic may still require Ubisoft Connect and a Ubisoft account.

If the game came from Steam or Xbox, follow the account-linking prompt and check which EA account is being linked. Avoid creating a second EA account simply because a publisher sign-in prompt appears during a game launch; an existing linked account may be the one you need.
Store and publisher accounts can both be necessary: the store may establish the purchase, while the publisher launcher verifies access or provides its own services.
6. Sign into GOG Galaxy and other launchers
GOG Galaxy: Install and open Galaxy, select Log in, and use your GOG account. Galaxy is useful for library management and features such as updates or cloud saves where supported. Some GOG games are DRM-free and can be installed without Galaxy, although features and installation methods vary by title.
- Battle.net: Sign in with a Battle.net account for games that use Blizzard’s launcher.
- Rockstar Games Launcher: Many Rockstar PC titles use it or require Rockstar account authentication.
- Minecraft Launcher: Uses a Microsoft account, but available editions and multiplayer features depend on the account’s game entitlement.
- PlayStation Remote Play: Uses a PlayStation Network account and streams from a paired console; it is not a native Windows installation of a PlayStation console game.
- Cloud gaming: Usually requires its own service account or a linked Microsoft account, and performance depends heavily on network quality.
If a launcher is not listed in Armoury Crate SE, you can generally install it in Windows like another PC application. Its availability in Armoury Crate or another library interface is separate from whether the app can run in Windows.
Use Armoury Crate SE to organize what you signed into
Armoury Crate SE is ASUS’s handheld control and game-library interface, not a universal authentication service. Use its game library or platform area to open an installed launcher or access offered installation links. Sign in inside each launcher using that platform’s credentials. If a newly installed game does not appear in the library, refresh or rescan the library if the current interface offers that option, or launch the game through its own platform.

ASUS describes access to Steam and Xbox through the game library and platform links for services including EA, Epic, Ubisoft Connect, and GOG. Some launcher installers and setup screens are not controller-friendly; ASUS notes that touch input may be needed when a setup wizard lacks built-in controller support. Controller-first gaming interface or Windows desktop?
On a standard Ally or Ally X, you will commonly open Windows, Armoury Crate SE, or a launcher yourself. Windows’ full-screen gaming experience can instead start a controller-oriented gaming home app after sign-in when the feature is available and configured. It is a Windows interface choice, not another account or operating system login. Availability and controls depend on device, Windows build, app version, and rollout.
If you land in a full-screen gaming interface but need conventional desktop controls, use the documented Game Bar or Task View route to return to the desktop. Microsoft’s Windows gaming full-screen experience guidance covers setup and switching. Some newer ROG Xbox Ally models have distinct Xbox-oriented interface behavior; do not assume every option works identically on every Ally. The Xbox interface also does not sign you into third-party launchers.
Fix common login problems
The login window will not accept touch input
The launcher may not support controller navigation, the on-screen keyboard may be hidden, or the window may be behind another app. Tap the text field directly, switch to the Windows desktop or mouse-oriented control mode, and open the touch keyboard from the taskbar if needed. A USB or Bluetooth keyboard can help with long passwords and setup forms. Close and reopen the launcher if its sign-in window is unresponsive.
The keyboard does not appear
Tap the email or password field again, select the touch-keyboard icon in the taskbar if available, or use a physical keyboard. If the field still will not respond, close and reopen the launcher rather than repeatedly tapping it.
The app stays on “signing in”
- Check that Wi-Fi works by opening a browser. Complete any public-network sign-in page.
- Check Windows date and time; incorrect system time can interfere with secure sign-in.
- Consider whether a service outage, VPN, DNS filter, firewall, or parental-control setting is blocking the connection.
- Close and reopen the launcher. If possible, sign out and back in.
- Restart the Ally and install pending Windows or launcher updates.
- If the account itself is the issue, use that provider’s official password-reset or recovery flow.
The Xbox app shows the wrong games or account
Compare the address in the Microsoft Store and Xbox app, sign out of the incorrect account, and sign back in with the account that has the PC entitlement. Restart and check again. If a title is still missing, verify whether the purchase or subscription includes Windows PC access; do not assume a console license carries over.

The launcher opens, but the library is empty
Check the account email and display name first. Then check purchase history or subscription entitlement, refresh the library, clear any library filters or hidden-game views, and follow any publisher account-linking prompt. A console-only license, an unlinked publisher account, or a different Windows user profile can also explain a missing library. Reinstalling the launcher will not fix a sign-in to the wrong account.
Two-factor authentication is unavailable
Use the provider’s approved recovery method: authenticator app, email or SMS if enabled, approval on a trusted device, or securely stored backup codes. Do not disable two-factor authentication just to speed up setup, and do not give credentials or codes to account-recovery vendors.
You forgot a password
Use the official recovery page or in-app recovery process for the specific platform. Each platform account is separate, so resetting a Microsoft password will not reset Steam, Epic, EA, or Ubisoft credentials.
Shared devices, sleep, and offline play
If several people use the Ally, separate Windows profiles can keep app data, launcher sessions, and credentials apart. Before lending or selling the device, sign out of launchers and review saved passwords, browser autofill, and Windows sign-in credentials.
A launcher asking you to sign in again after a long sleep, network change, app update, or token expiration is not necessarily a broken account. Reconnect to the internet and complete the prompt. For travel, configure offline access while still online: initial authentication and ownership checks often need a connection, and offline support varies by launcher, game, DRM, and update status. Do not assume every installed game will launch offline.
