How to Loop 4K 60fps Aquarium Videos on YouTube Live Without Black Gaps

Use OBS Media Source Loop for a 4K60 aquarium stream, then test the actual YouTube playback across a full loop. Here are the settings and checks that matter.

In OBS Studio, add your aquarium video as a local Media Source, turn on Loop, and stream the scene to YouTube. That repeats the file, but it cannot fix a visible jump built into the video or guarantee a seamless boundary on every computer. Test the actual YouTube playback through a full loop before relying on it.

Set up a looping aquarium stream in OBS

  1. Add the video: In OBS, add a Media Source to your scene and select the local aquarium video file. OBS supports common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM. Keep the source visible in the scene.
  2. Enable repeat playback: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. OBS repeats the file when playback completes. Avoid toggling the source’s visibility or switching scenes at the end; those actions are separate from looping and can introduce a transition.
  3. Check the edit point: Watch the end of the video followed by its opening frames. For a natural loop, the movement, lighting, and composition at the end should lead convincingly into the beginning. OBS repeats the file; it does not edit out a discontinuity in the footage.
  4. For multiple clips: Add a VLC Video source and create a playlist. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source to appear. Enable Loop Playlist, then check every clip-to-clip transition as well as the transition from the last clip back to the first.

The Media Source loop behavior is documented by the OBS Project. It does not promise a frame-perfect, gap-free boundary for every file, storage device, computer, or OBS version. A black flash or pause may depend on the video edit and the playback, decode, and encode chain, so verify your own setup rather than treating the setting as a guarantee.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow to obtain the stream URL and stream key.
  2. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect your account or enter the stream details as directed by the current OBS interface. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
  3. Start streaming from OBS and check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before making the broadcast public. YouTube lists OBS among its verified encoder options and explains its encoder workflow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Exact OBS labels can vary by installed version. Confirm the current labels in your copy of OBS if a setting has moved.

Use YouTube’s 4K60 encoder settings

For H.264 ingest at 4K/2160p and 60 fps, YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends a bitrate of 35 Mbps. Its guidance also recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), and RTMPS. Keep codec-specific settings together: YouTube lists separate bitrate ranges for AV1 and H.265, so do not apply those ranges as if they were H.264 settings. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Set the output to 3840 × 2160 and 60 fps if both your encoder and system can sustain it.
  • Choose a codec supported by your encoder and YouTube’s ingest configuration, then use the bitrate guidance for that codec.
  • Use a stable connection, preferably wired where practical. Check available upload capacity against the chosen bitrate and leave reasonable headroom; YouTube advises matching quality to connection reliability but does not prescribe a universal headroom multiplier.
  • Do not assume that a 4K60 encoder feed means every viewer will receive 4K60. YouTube transcodes live ingest, and the available playback quality depends on its output options as well as each viewer’s device and connection.

Test for black gaps before going public

  1. Play the local file from beginning to end and confirm it decodes correctly, with no blank frames or playback pauses.
  2. Confirm that Loop is enabled for a single Media Source, or Loop Playlist is enabled for a VLC playlist.
  3. Start a private or unlisted test stream and let it run through at least one complete loop boundary. Watch the YouTube player itself, not only the OBS preview.
  4. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and monitor OBS for dropped frames. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health; see its encoder guidance and encoder workflow.
  5. If you see a flash or pause, compare the last and first frames of the source, then test the local file and stream again. A defect visible in the source needs an edit to the footage; a difference between local playback and the YouTube player points to another part of the playback or streaming chain.

There is no documented success rate or universal gap duration for this workflow. Neither OBS’s loop description nor YouTube’s encoder guidance guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 operation; the computer, encoder, network, and source file all remain part of a self-hosted setup.

Know the viewer-side limits of 4K Live

YouTube does not offer its low-latency optimization option for 4K/2160 streams, so expect normal latency. That is generally compatible with a mostly static aquarium broadcast, but it is not a real-time conversation experience. YouTube explains latency and other live settings in Manage live stream settings.

DVR is separate from the video loop. When enabled, viewers can pause, rewind, and resume the live stream. YouTube warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams beyond 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a time before the stream began. DVR does not make the file’s loop boundary more seamless. Details are in Turn on DVR on live streams.

Confirm you have rights to the footage

Being able to loop a video technically does not mean you have permission to rebroadcast it. Use footage you own or have licensed for the intended public livestream, and check music and other embedded material separately. The technical setup does not determine whether a particular video is cleared for your channel.
