Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo loop a 4K 60 fps video on YouTube Live with OBS, add the clip as an OBS Media Source, enable Loop, set OBS to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps, then stream to YouTube using its RTMPS server URL and your stream key. For 4K/60, YouTube recommends 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and 50 Mbps for H.264; first confirm your actual connection can sustain the chosen bitrate.
Before you start: check YouTube eligibility and your connection
Confirm live-stream access
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days to stream. Its general eligibility guidance says streamers must be at least 16. Check current access in YouTube Studio before preparing the event: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Test upload capacity where OBS will run
Use a speed test on the same internet connection and location you plan to stream from, preferably at a time representative of your broadcast. Download speed and an advertised plan speed do not establish that the upload connection can hold a live bitrate steadily. YouTube’s figures below are encoder recommendations, not a guarantee about Indian broadband or mobile service. Leave headroom rather than setting OBS to the full measured upload rate; if the connection fluctuates, lower output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate.
Set up the YouTube Live broadcast and get its stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create a broadcast or select the intended scheduled stream.
- Open the stream settings. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. YouTube documents these controls in Manage live stream settings.
- Keep the stream key private. It works like a password for sending video to your broadcast. Do not show it in a screen recording or share it publicly. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming.
Add the video to OBS and make it repeat
- In OBS, select the scene that will carry the broadcast. In the Sources panel, choose + → Media Source.
- Name the source, then select the local video file. OBS Media Source supports local video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM; consult the OBS Media Sources guide for the documented formats and properties.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties. This is the setting that repeats the file when playback reaches its end.
- Use Restart playback when source becomes active only if you want the file to restart when that source becomes visible in the active scene. It is separate from Loop and is not needed to make continuous playback repeat.
- Click OK, then check the preview and make sure the source fits the canvas. Confirm that the clip has the intended picture and audio tracks.
Using a playlist instead of one clip
For a playlist, OBS offers a VLC Video source with playlist controls and a Loop Playlist property. VLC must be installed for this source. For one file, Media Source is the simpler option; the two sources have different controls, so verify the playlist order and loop behavior before going live.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Configure OBS for 4K at 60 fps
Set resolution and frame rate
In OBS, open Settings → Video. Set Base (Canvas) Resolution and Output (Scaled) Resolution to 3840 × 2160 if you want the outgoing stream to be 4K, and set Common FPS Values to 60. If the source itself is not 4K/60, these output settings do not add detail or motion information that is absent from the source.
Choose an encoder and bitrate that the PC and connection can sustain
Under Settings → Output, use the streaming encoder and bitrate settings appropriate to your encoder. YouTube’s published 2160p/60 guidance gives the following values; retain the codec distinction when choosing a target:

| Codec | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published ingest figures; the help page does not state a publication year. A minimum is not a sensible target if the goal is a stable 4K/60 stream. Match the encoder to hardware support and workload, then select a bitrate your measured upload can maintain with headroom. YouTube’s full encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance is the reference for current ingest recommendations.
Use YouTube’s stream settings
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate), as recommended by YouTube for RTMP/RTMPS ingest.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Scan and pixels: progressive scan and square pixels.
- SDR color: Rec. 709, 8-bit.
- Protocol: RTMPS is recommended by YouTube and encrypts the data transfer.
For these settings in OBS, open Settings → Output for encoder options and Settings → Video for resolution and frame rate. Exact encoder labels and available codecs vary with the selected hardware/software encoder, so do not assume every computer exposes AV1 or H.265 encoding.

Connect OBS to YouTube and test the full loop
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube as the service if available, or choose the option to use a custom server. Enter the RTMPS server URL from YouTube Studio and the stream key for the correct broadcast.
- Click Apply and OK. Start streaming from OBS.
- Open the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview. Check the image, audio, resolution, and stream health before starting the public event.
- Let the video reach its end and verify that it begins again. Listen across the loop point for an unexpected silence, cut, or doubled audio. Correct the media or source setup before promoting the live.
- Continue monitoring stream health and audio/video quality while live. YouTube recommends testing and checking the Live Control Room preview; see YouTube live streaming tips.
Use a private or unlisted test broadcast when appropriate, and confirm the visibility setting before the actual event. At 2160p, YouTube does not offer the low-latency option: 4K streams use normal latency.
Troubleshoot common 4K/60 loop problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| OBS shows video, but the YouTube preview does not appear | Wrong broadcast key or server URL, stream not started in OBS, or the channel is not eligible to go live | Confirm the selected broadcast and its URL/key in Live Control Room, check OBS connection status, and verify channel eligibility. |
| Stream health reports instability or video drops | Upload capacity is insufficient or fluctuating at the selected bitrate | Measure upload on the streaming connection; reduce bitrate and, if needed, output resolution or frame rate. Do not treat a one-time speed result as proof of sustained capacity. |
| Stream will not hold 4K/60 reliably | Encoder load, hardware codec support, or connection capacity may not suit the selected output | Check OBS performance and encoder support. Try a lower output resolution or frame rate, and choose a codec/bitrate combination that both the encoder and connection can sustain. |
| Clip stops at the end instead of starting again | Loop is not enabled on the Media Source, or the selected source is not the one playing | Open Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a VLC Video playlist, check its playlist loop control instead. |
| Clip unexpectedly restarts when changing scenes | Restart playback when source becomes active is enabled | Disable that property if playback should continue through scene changes; it is distinct from Loop. |
| Audio has a gap or abrupt cut at the repeat point | The end and beginning of the file do not join cleanly | Listen through a full loop in the preview and edit or replace the file if the transition is audible. OBS repeating a file does not smooth the edit. |
Copyright and repeat-content checks before broadcasting
Only stream video and audio you have the rights or permission to use. A video looping continuously is still a live broadcast of that content; repeating it does not remove copyright obligations. Check YouTube’s current rules and any applicable licenses before scheduling, and avoid assuming that a test broadcast or attribution alone grants permission. Keep your stream key private, and verify the intended audience and visibility in Live Control Room before starting.
