Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To loop prerecorded real estate videos on YouTube Live from a Linux VPS, run FFmpeg on the server, read the media at real-time speed with -re, and use -stream_loop -1 to repeat a compatible input indefinitely. Send the feed to the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. A single file is straightforward; a multi-video playlist needs a workflow that handles transitions and compatible media streams.
What you need before starting
- A Linux VPS with the video files stored on its disk or on a reliable mount.
- FFmpeg installed on the VPS. Check its behavior against the documentation for the version you install.
- A YouTube channel set up for live streaming and access to Live Control Room.
- The stream URL and stream key for the YouTube event.
- Rights to stream every video, image, music bed, graphic, and voiceover in the playlist.
The VPS must be able to sustain the workload and upload the outgoing feed. Its required CPU, memory, storage, and transfer allowance depend on the media and whether FFmpeg copies or re-encodes it; there is no single server size that can be recommended without measuring your workload.
Prepare the real estate videos and playlist
Check the media files
Before going live, inspect the actual files and confirm their video and audio codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio layout, and container are compatible with YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Do not assume that files from different cameras, editors, or listing platforms will work together unchanged.
Decide whether the VPS will stream one video repeatedly or rotate through multiple videos. A single file is the simplest loop. A playlist needs explicit handling for the order and duration of each item, transitions, and stream compatibility. The FFmpeg loop option does not validate a collection of files or guarantee seamless transitions between arbitrary clips.

Clear rights and plan for viewer value
Confirm permission for all footage and accompanying material, and keep a record of those permissions. Copyright permission and YouTube monetization eligibility are separate checks: permission alone does not establish eligibility. YouTube’s monetization guidance says content should be original and authentic rather than mass-produced, generic, or repetitive; its reused-content policy concerns material republished without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. A feed made mostly of repeated property footage should offer a genuine viewer benefit, not just replay listings.
Create the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule a broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. Treat the key like a password: do not commit it to a public repository or expose it in logs or shell history.
- Keep the event and encoder feed distinct in your planning. YouTube models the viewer-facing broadcast and the audio-video stream carrying the feed as separate resources.
If you schedule a broadcast, follow YouTube Studio’s flow and click Go live when the preview is ready. A scheduled event is not the same as an unattended continuous feed: it has its own broadcast lifecycle.
Run FFmpeg on the VPS
Loop a single video

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4
-c:v libx264 -c:a aac -f flv
"$YOUTUBE_URL/$STREAM_KEY"
-re reads the input at its native frame rate rather than sending the file as fast as the server can process it. -stream_loop -1 loops the input indefinitely. The example re-encodes video with libx264 and audio with aac, then writes an FLV feed to the URL and key. It is not a tested command for every input: confirm that the installed FFmpeg build supports the selected codecs and that the source media, output properties, and YouTube encoder requirements are compatible.

Handle a playlist deliberately
For several videos, choose a playlist or concat workflow only after checking that the files’ streams and properties are compatible with that workflow. Test the complete sequence before scheduling a public event, including the change from the last item back to the first. A generic concat command cannot be assumed safe for arbitrary property-video files, and looping a single input does not create transitions between separate files.

If the playlist contains mixed formats or requires controlled transitions, prepare compatible outputs before the broadcast or use a workflow that explicitly supports those assets. Confirm the resulting picture, sound, orientation, and transitions in Live Control Room before going live.
Copying versus re-encoding
Copying already-compatible streams can reduce encoding work on the VPS, but it gives you less control over output and depends on the files already meeting the ingest requirements. Re-encoding provides control over the output format but uses server CPU. The starting command above re-encodes; this is not a claim that every VPS can handle every resolution or frame rate. Measure the real workload and check the host’s transfer and uptime terms before committing to a server plan.
Check the preview, then keep the process running
- Start FFmpeg and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room.
- Check picture, audio, orientation, and playlist transitions. Resolve problems before starting a scheduled broadcast.
- When the preview is ready, use YouTube Studio’s scheduled-broadcast flow to click Go live, if applicable.
- Run FFmpeg under an appropriate process supervisor, such as systemd, and monitor the process, disk space, outbound network, and YouTube ingest status.
A process supervisor can help restart a failed process, but it does not guarantee that YouTube will accept the feed or that the VPS has uninterrupted service. Monitor both ends: a running FFmpeg process is not proof that viewers can see a healthy live stream.

Choose the broadcast lifecycle and archive plan
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume an indefinite broadcast will produce one complete archive. If you need identifiable events or predictable recordings, plan broadcast boundaries and archive handling deliberately.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes a broadcast from its underlying stream. Its documentation describes scheduled or recurring broadcasts that reuse a stream, and a continuous broadcast that remains active while another broadcast is temporarily started on the same stream. Automating this approach requires deliberate broadcast management and, when using the API, development and authorization work.
RTMP or HLS?
For a basic VPS encoder setup, use the stream URL and key provided through Live Control Room rather than choosing HLS by default. YouTube documents HLS ingestion for selected workflows; its HLS guidance describes HTTPS, playlist, and segment requirements and notes higher latency than RTMP because video is sent in segments. Choose HLS only when the workflow calls for it and you can meet those requirements.

Troubleshooting common problems
YouTube does not show a preview
- Check that FFmpeg is running and that the URL and key belong to the intended event.
- Check the VPS outbound connection and YouTube ingest status.
- Review FFmpeg output for input, codec, or connection errors without sharing logs that reveal the stream key.
The picture or audio is wrong
- Inspect the source file’s codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio layout, and container.
- Compare those properties and the resulting output with YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
- Test the entire playlist and transitions in the preview, not only the first clip.
The stream stops or the playlist does not repeat as expected
- Confirm the correct input and loop option are being used and check FFmpeg’s process output.
- Check server disk space, process status, outbound network, and YouTube ingest state.
- For multiple files, inspect the playlist workflow and media compatibility;
-stream_loop -1only loops its input and does not solve playlist assembly.
The stream is running but does not qualify for monetization
Streaming rights do not guarantee monetization eligibility. Review YouTube’s current reused-content and originality policies and make sure the channel’s output adds meaningful commentary, modification, education, or entertainment value rather than presenting repetitive footage alone.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not operate FFmpeg and a VPS yourself, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos running as a YouTube live stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
