Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To loop a prerecorded school open-day replay on YouTube Live, send the video from an encoder that can repeat a file or playlist. Create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder using the stream URL and stream key, and enable looping in the encoder—not in a universal YouTube setting. Test the entire playback cycle before the event so you can catch gaps, black frames, or audio breaks.
What you need before setting up the stream
- A YouTube channel verified and eligible to livestream. YouTube says a channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s getting-started requirements and overview of live streams.
- The open-day replay as a video file, plus an encoder that can play and repeat that file or a playlist. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders; a dedicated hardware encoder is not automatically necessary for this replay use case. YouTube’s encoder guide describes connecting an encoder.
- A reliable upload connection with enough spare capacity for the encoder’s outgoing bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom; on a shared school network, other users can reduce what is available. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- A local recording or archive plan, and an operator who can check the stream during the event.
For a school event featuring students, check the school’s consent, safeguarding, and district rules before making it available. The right policy depends on the school and jurisdiction. YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted visibility; unlisted means viewers need the link, not that the stream is a secure access-control system.
Set up the YouTube Live event and encoder
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and enter the title and event details. Choose public, private, or unlisted according to the intended audience and school policy. Verify that intended viewers can reach the watch page.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream setup, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it could send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
- Load the replay and enable repeat in the encoder. Add the video file as a media source or playlist item, then turn on that encoder’s repeat or loop option. The control and its label vary by software. YouTube’s connection guidance does not provide a universal “loop replay” switch, so consult the encoder’s current instructions and test its repeat behavior.
- Set video output for the source and connection. Choose an encoder resolution and bitrate that fit the video and the school’s available upload capacity. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution recommendations rather than guessing a bitrate. Keep the recommended 20% upload headroom above the outgoing stream bitrate.
- Run a full-cycle test. Start the encoder, confirm the preview appears in Live Control Room, and watch the file reach its end and begin again. Check picture, audio, and the transition for a pause, black frame, missing audio, or abrupt discontinuity. Open the watch page and test access on a phone or tablet, too. YouTube recommends an advance test and audience-access checks.
- Confirm your backup recording works. Record locally if your encoder supports it, then verify that the file grows during the test. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup; do not assume a live stream archive is your only copy.
Choose whether viewers can rewind during the live replay
YouTube’s DVR option determines whether viewers can pause and seek backward during a supported live stream. With DVR enabled, viewers can rewind while the broadcast is live; with it disabled, they cannot seek backward during the live broadcast, although they can watch the completed recording afterward. YouTube notes that DVR may be limited or unavailable for very long streams. Review YouTube’s DVR guidance and select the setting in the live stream settings where available.
Start and monitor the event
- Prepare early. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder stream at least two hours before the event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. This gives you time to verify the incoming preview and resolve connection issues.
- Confirm the preview, then start the event. In Live Control Room, check that the feed is arriving and the right event is selected. Start the live event as appropriate for the scheduled setup.
- Monitor the whole broadcast. Check picture and sound periodically, confirm the replay continues to repeat, and verify that the local recording is still being written. YouTube recommends continuous quality monitoring.
- End and verify the archive. End the stream in YouTube and the encoder as appropriate. Confirm the recording appears in YouTube Studio, and keep the local copy until you have checked the YouTube archive.
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the YouTube archive matters, keep the session under 12 hours and retain the local recording as a backup. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Troubleshoot common problems
- No preview in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder is online, the stream URL and key are entered in the correct fields, and the selected event is the one you intend to broadcast. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- The video plays once and stops: Repeat is controlled by the encoder’s media source or playlist, not by a universal YouTube loop switch. Enable the encoder’s repeat setting and test through the end-of-file transition.
- Playback breaks at the loop point: Watch the transition during a full-cycle test. If there is a gap, black frame, or audio discontinuity, adjust the encoder’s source or playlist behavior and retest before the event.
- Stream quality is unstable: Compare the encoder’s outgoing bitrate with available upload capacity and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Shared network use may reduce capacity; lower the encoder’s bitrate or arrange a more reliable connection if needed.
- Intended viewers cannot watch: Recheck the event’s visibility and test the watch page while signed in as an intended viewer, including on a mobile device. Private and unlisted streams have different access expectations; unlisted access depends on sharing the link.
- No YouTube archive appears: Check the stream duration and Studio after the event. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so retain and verify the local recording rather than relying solely on YouTube’s archive.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not leave a school computer running the replay, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping to YouTube Live from the cloud. Upload the replay, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at school or at home; every slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
