YouTube’s watch-page Loop control only repeats playback for a viewer; it does not create a live broadcast.
Choose the right kind of loop
For one repeating video, OBS’s Media Source is the straightforward option. For several clips, use OBS’s VLC Video source and configure a playlist. The VLC source requires VLC to be installed; OBS recommends installing 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS.
YouTube’s Loop control is different: it repeats a video for someone watching it, rather than sending an encoder feed to YouTube Live. YouTube’s instructions for looping videos describe viewer playback, not a live-stream setup.
Check that your channel can go live
Before configuring OBS, confirm your channel is eligible. YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and states that streamers must be at least 16. YouTube also documents concurrent limits of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key; both limits apply. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance for current requirements.

Loop one video in OBS
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, choose an existing scene or create one for the broadcast.
- Add the file. In the Sources area, select +, choose Media Source, and create a new source. Browse to the local video file.
- Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop, then confirm the settings. OBS describes this option as playing the file again when playback completes.
- Check the picture and sound. Confirm the video appears in the OBS preview and that its audio is audible at an appropriate level.
OBS supports common video and audio file types, but that does not mean every codec or file will work. If the source is blank or silent, try a known-compatible export and check the file in a media player before reconnecting it. Loop a playlist of videos
- Install VLC. If your OBS installation is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC; OBS needs VLC installed for the VLC Video source to appear.
- In OBS, select + in Sources and add a VLC Video source.
- Configure the playlist with the clips you want to play, then enable Loop Playlist.
- Check the order, picture, and audio in the OBS preview before starting the broadcast.
A playlist suits a stream built from multiple clips; a Media Source suits one file that should repeat. OBS documents the playlist controls in its Media Sources guide.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room to create or manage a stream.
- Copy the stream key and enter it in OBS’s stream settings, using YouTube as the service and the server details provided by YouTube. A stream key works like a password: it identifies where the encoder sends its feed and allows YouTube to accept it.
- Start streaming from OBS and check the incoming preview and audio in YouTube’s Live Control Room.
- Once the preview is correct, share the YouTube watch link with viewers.
Keep the stream key private. If it is exposed, the channel owner or a manager can reset it in YouTube Studio. Use YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions for the exact Studio controls, which may change.
Copyright and channel rules still apply
Looping a file does not make its contents eligible for broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” They also require you to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and make sure you have permission for every video, image, and audio track you use.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if the content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast. If you have a licence, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist—having a licence alone may not prevent an interruption. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
If YouTube has restricted your channel from livestreaming, you cannot use another channel to stream while the restriction is in effect. Attempting to get around a restriction can result in termination; see YouTube’s policy on circumvention.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The video plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist.
- VLC Video is missing from OBS: Install VLC, matching OBS’s architecture. OBS recommends 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that OBS is using the current stream key and the server details shown in YouTube Studio. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update OBS.
- The preview is blank or has no sound: Confirm the correct local file is selected, check that its format works with the source, and inspect OBS audio levels before going live.
- The livestream is interrupted or replaced: Check YouTube Studio for warnings or copyright notices. A Content ID match may require action by the rights holder, including allowlisting your channel.
- You cannot start a livestream: Check channel verification, any active live-stream restriction, age eligibility, and YouTube’s current concurrent-stream limits.
