Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou can loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live without renting a VPS by running OBS Studio on a local computer. Add the video as an OBS Media Source, enable Loop, then send OBS’s output to YouTube through Live Control Room. The trade-off: the computer, OBS, power and internet connection must stay available for as long as you want the broadcast to run.
What “looping on YouTube Live” means
YouTube Live receives a live feed from an encoder such as OBS; it does not repeatedly broadcast a video just because a viewer enables repeat in their player. The loop belongs in the encoder’s playback source. OBS plays the file again when it reaches the end, while YouTube receives that output as a live stream.
Without a VPS, the encoder can run on a computer you already have. If you need the stream to continue while your own equipment is off, you need a hosted playout service instead of a local setup.
Check YouTube Live access before setting up OBS
In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days; its requirements also say streamers must be at least 16. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned broadcast.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up OBS to loop one video
- Create a scene: In OBS Studio, create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the file: In the Sources panel, select + → Media Source, create a source, and choose the local video file.
- Enable the loop: In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. The source should restart when playback reaches the end.
- Check sound and picture: Confirm the video appears in the OBS preview and that the audio meters respond. Play a representative section rather than checking only a still opening frame.
Loop a playlist instead of a single file
For multiple videos, OBS provides a VLC Video source with playlist support and a Loop Playlist control. OBS says VLC must be installed for this source type to appear. Add the files to the playlist, enable playlist looping, and verify that the transition between files behaves as intended before going live.
Connect OBS to YouTube and start the broadcast
- Get the encoder details: In Live Control Room, open the encoder setup and copy the stream URL and stream key.
- Enter them in OBS: Open OBS’s stream settings, select YouTube as the service if offered, and enter the key. If using a custom server option, use the stream URL and key as the encoder setup specifies.
- Keep the key private: Anyone with access to the key may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Choose sustainable output settings: Set resolution, frame rate and bitrate to suit both the video and the upload connection. There is no single bitrate that is right for every resolution, frame rate and connection. Test with movement and audio like the planned stream, and choose a bitrate your upload can maintain.
- Start and verify: Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room, check stream health and preview, then select Go live when ready.
- End cleanly: End the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop sending from OBS.
YouTube transcodes the encoder feed into multiple output formats for viewers. That does not remove the need to send a stable source feed from OBS.

Plan around computer, connection and archive limits
Keep the local encoder available
A local setup avoids VPS rental and administration, but the host computer must stay powered on, OBS must remain open and the local internet connection must remain stable. Sleep settings, a restart, a power interruption or a dropped connection can interrupt the feed. For a limited-duration or scheduled loop, this may be acceptable; it is not unattended operation when the machine is off.
Do not assume one live session or replay lasts indefinitely
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish an indefinitely available single replay or a supported duration for an unbroken 24/7 session. If you need a continuous or longer broadcast, check YouTube’s current live and archive behavior and plan the session accordingly.

Use content you are entitled to stream
Make sure you have the rights to the video and every audio track you transmit. Where it could be unclear to viewers, identify the content as prerecorded. A looping setup does not by itself establish whether a particular video complies with YouTube rules or qualifies for monetization.
Troubleshooting a YouTube Live loop
- The video stops at the end: Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For several files, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- VLC Video is missing from OBS sources: OBS says VLC must be installed for this source type to appear. Install VLC, then check the Sources menu again.
- YouTube receives no feed: Confirm OBS is streaming, the stream URL and key match the current Live Control Room setup, and the stream has been created there. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it through YouTube’s stream settings and update OBS.
- The preview appears but stream health is poor: Reduce the output bitrate or resolution, or frame rate, until the connection can sustain the feed. Test again with representative movement and audio, then monitor stream health during the broadcast.
- There is picture but no sound: Check that the source has audio, OBS’s audio meters move during playback, and the intended audio is enabled in the scene’s output mix. Verify the result in the Live Control Room preview before going live.
- The stream stops when you leave: A local OBS broadcast depends on the computer and connection staying on. For operation while your own equipment is off, use hosted playout rather than relying on the local machine.
