To loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live from a cloud desktop, run OBS Studio on a cloud VM, add the file as an OBS Media Source, enable Loop, and connect OBS to YouTube with the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The video repeats while OBS and the VM remain running; neither a cloud desktop nor OBS’s Loop setting guarantees that the broadcast will recover from every crash, network failure, or YouTube interruption.
Before you start: check YouTube access and the cloud desktop
Confirm live-stream eligibility
Your YouTube channel must be verified and unrestricted for live streaming. If this is its first live broadcast, activation may take up to 24 hours. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and allow time for activation before a planned broadcast.
In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live to create or schedule a broadcast. In Live Control Room, locate the stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key. Keep the key private: it allows an encoder to send video to your channel. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains where to find these details and how to preview a broadcast.
Check the VM before relying on it
Choose a cloud desktop that can run a graphical desktop session and sustain the outbound bitrate you configure in OBS. Confirm its idle, stop, and restart behavior, and whether OBS keeps running when you disconnect from the remote desktop. You will also need a way to transfer the video file to the VM and enough storage for it. These details vary by provider and VM configuration, so check the provider’s current terms and settings rather than assuming the desktop stays available indefinitely.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
OBS Studio is free and open source, and its help portal says it can be used commercially without restrictions. It is software, not a physical encoder device; the VM supplies the computer that runs it. See the OBS Help Portal.
Set up OBS to repeat one video
- Open OBS in the cloud desktop. Install or launch OBS in the VM’s desktop session. Sign in to the remote desktop in the way your provider supports, then keep the VM available while the broadcast runs.
- Create a scene and add the video. In OBS, create a scene, then add a Media Source. Browse to the video file on the VM. Make sure the account running OBS can read it.
- Enable the loop. Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. It is off by default; when enabled, OBS restarts the file after playback ends. The OBS Media Sources guide documents this setting and supported source options.
- For multiple files, use a playlist source. Add a VLC Video source, create its playlist, and use Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; for 64-bit OBS, the OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC.
- Check the scene before streaming. Preview the picture and audio in OBS. Watch through the end of the file and into its restart; a loop can still reveal a black gap, unwanted audio, or a file access problem at the boundary.
Connect OBS to YouTube and test the broadcast
- Set OBS’s streaming destination. In OBS streaming settings, select YouTube if available. Otherwise, enter the server URL and stream key copied from YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password and do not publish or share it.
- Start the encoder. Start streaming in OBS. Return to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and wait for the incoming feed and preview.
- Make a scheduled broadcast public. Once the preview appears, press Go live in Live Control Room if the broadcast is scheduled and requires that step. YouTube’s encoder guide describes previewing before going live.
- Verify playback. Check the public watch page and listen to the audio, preferably from a separate viewer session. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API overview also recommends using a monitor stream to test content. The API distinguishes the watchable broadcast from the incoming stream feed; you do not need to use the API to follow the Studio workflow.
Keep the stream running and plan for interruptions
OBS’s Loop setting repeats the media file; it does not supervise OBS, restart the VM, or guarantee that YouTube will keep a broadcast open. Plan how you will respond to an OBS crash, VM reboot or suspension, network interruption, changed stream key, or a broadcast that ends. A cloud VM removes dependence on a home computer staying powered on, but it still depends on the VM and its network remaining available.

Watch OBS’s dropped-frame indicator and the YouTube preview or status. OBS says dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection to YouTube or an upload connection that cannot keep up with the selected bitrate. If frames drop, investigate the VM’s connection and reduce the output demands if necessary. The right resolution, frame rate, and bitrate depend on your source video, host, and connection; use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point rather than assuming one setting fits every VM. OBS explains dropped-frame troubleshooting in its help portal.
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived. That statement does not promise a complete archive for a single stream lasting 12 hours or longer. If a complete replay matters, plan the broadcast duration and archive expectations accordingly; see YouTube’s encoder guide.

Copyright, reused content, and monetization
A successful technical loop does not establish that you have the rights to stream the video, music, or other material in it. Use content you own or are authorized to broadcast, and consider the rights to every element, including background music and clips.
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams. Its July 15, 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible for monetization. That is not the same as saying every repeated live stream is automatically prohibited; monetization eligibility depends on the channel and content under YouTube’s policy. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies before relying on a loop for revenue.

Choose between a cloud desktop, a local PC, and a hosted service
| Approach | What it offers | What to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo — the first hosted option to consider | Always-on YouTube playback from the cloud, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and a free first day. | Whether its uploaded-video workflow and included storage fit your use; plan length and current price are shown on StreamNeo. |
| OBS on a cloud desktop | Control over OBS scenes and settings while encoding remotely. | Desktop and display support, outbound bandwidth, file transfer and storage, VM stop/restart behavior, recovery planning, and total compute and network cost. |
| OBS on a local computer | Familiar OBS workflow without renting a VM. | The computer and home connection must stay available; power or network interruptions can interrupt the stream. |
| Another hosted continuous-stream service | A provider may manage upload, scheduling, and continuous playback without your maintaining OBS on a VM. | Supported formats, duration and archiving, scheduling and restart controls, permissions, rights handling, price, cancellation and export terms, and verified partner status. |
These are trade-offs to check, not measured reliability or cost rankings. YouTube’s encoder directory lists services including Gyre, described there as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams; verify each provider’s current features and terms independently in YouTube’s encoder guide.
YouTube’s current live-streaming help page lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. Check YouTube’s live-streaming guidance if you intend to run several broadcasts at once.
