YouTube’s playlist Loop button repeats videos for someone watching the playlist; it does not create a live broadcast. To make prerecorded videos play continuously as a YouTube livestream, send them to YouTube Live through an encoder or a cloud playout service. The steps below cover the local encoder route and a cloud alternative.
Playlist looping and livestreaming are different
When you select Loop on a YouTube playlist, YouTube repeats playback in that viewing session. It does not take the playlist and broadcast it as a live event. A livestream requires an outgoing video feed sent to YouTube Live, typically using an encoder or a service that handles continuous playout.
Loop a playlist for personal viewing
On desktop, open a video in the playlist, expand the playlist panel, and select Loop. On Android, start playing the playlist and tap its Loop control. Tapping the control again can change the behavior to repeat only the current video. YouTube also documents playlist repeat controls for TVs and gaming consoles. These controls affect playback for the viewer, not a channel’s live output. See YouTube’s playlist repeat instructions.
What you need to broadcast prerecorded videos
For the do-it-yourself method, you need a computer running encoder software, the video files arranged as a playlist or continuous playback source, and a YouTube channel eligible to livestream. The encoder sends the video and audio feed to YouTube; YouTube’s Live Control Room provides the stream URL and stream key used to connect it. A hardware encoder is another option for a dedicated setup, but hardware is not required. YouTube’s encoder overview explains the available methods.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check eligibility before setting up
- The channel must be verified and have no livestream restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- YouTube’s current help guidance says livestreamers must be at least 16 years old.
- First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable and test Live access in advance.
- Your videos and the playlist as a collection must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Having permission to upload a video does not automatically establish that every use in a livestream is allowed.
Check YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance and Community Guidelines before going live.
Set up a continuous stream with an encoder
- Build the playback sequence. Put the videos in the intended order and confirm they play through without gaps. Set the playback source or encoder playlist to repeat. The exact playlist controls depend on the encoder you use; YouTube does not turn a regular YouTube playlist into an encoder input.
- Enable livestreaming. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and complete any channel verification or activation steps. If this is the channel’s first livestream, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
- Create or open a stream in Live Control Room. Choose the encoder workflow. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder. Paste the URL and key into the corresponding server and stream-key fields. Choose the appropriate video and audio input, then configure the encoder’s output. Follow YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the resolution and bitrate you plan to send; use a stable upload connection with bandwidth headroom rather than running at the line’s full capacity.
- Start the encoder feed and check the preview. Start sending the video before taking the event live. In Live Control Room, confirm that YouTube receives a healthy preview and that picture and sound are correct.
- Start the livestream and monitor it. Go live from the control room when the preview is ready. Monitor audio, video, and the encoder’s connection status. Test the full workflow before leaving it unattended, and check that the event is accessible to the intended audience.
YouTube’s detailed procedure is in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Exact encoder controls vary by software or hardware, so use its documentation for configuring a looping source and output.

Choose an operating model for 24/7 playback
A local software encoder gives you direct control, but the computer, playback source, encoder, and internet connection must remain available. A dedicated hardware encoder can suit a fixed production setup. For unattended prerecorded-video playout, a cloud service can handle playback without relying on a home computer. YouTube’s encoder documentation lists cloud-based 24/7 streaming tools and names Gyre as an example; that listing does not establish a provider’s current pricing, limits, or recovery behavior.
StreamNeo: cloud playback for YouTube
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; playback then runs in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. StreamNeo is for YouTube livestreams and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Plan around YouTube’s long-stream limits
A single continuous 24/7 broadcast has different archive and rewind behavior from a short event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. YouTube also warns that DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable for very long streams. These are YouTube Help statements, not guarantees for every stream. If you need a copy of the content, keep a separate local recording or source-file backup rather than relying on the livestream archive. Read YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Test and troubleshoot before leaving it unattended
Test the complete path
- Run a short test stream and verify the preview, sound, and playback order in Live Control Room.
- Confirm the event is accessible as intended, and check the resulting archive if one is created.
- Check the upload connection under realistic conditions. YouTube recommends leaving bandwidth headroom; a connection that barely sustains the feed is more vulnerable to interruptions.
- For local encoding, test what happens if playback or the encoder stops. A local setup depends on the computer and network staying available.
Common problems and fixes
- You only see repeated videos while watching, not a live event: the playlist Loop control repeats viewer playback. Create a livestream and send an encoder or cloud-playout feed to it instead.
- You cannot start a livestream: check channel verification, restrictions in the previous 90 days, age eligibility, and whether first-time activation is still processing. Allow up to 24 hours for initial enablement.
- YouTube receives no encoder signal: check that the stream URL and key were copied into the correct fields, the encoder is actually sending, and the stream key has not been changed in Live Control Room.
- The preview stutters or drops: check the encoder and upload connection, reduce the output load if needed, and retain bandwidth headroom. Test again before relying on the stream unattended.
- The playlist stops or has a gap: verify the playback source is configured to repeat and that each file plays successfully to its end. YouTube’s playlist repeat button does not control the encoder’s source.
- A very long stream has no archive or limited rewind: this may reflect YouTube’s documented caveats for streams over 12 hours. Use a separate recording when preserving the full program matters.
Protect the channel and the stream
Use only content you are entitled to stream, including music, gameplay footage, and other creators’ videos. A playlist may be assessed as a collection, and a livestream remains subject to YouTube policy. Do not assume that looping or changing the format makes reused content acceptable or guarantees monetization. Review the current YouTube Community Guidelines and terms that apply to your channel before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
