To loop several videos in an OBS YouTube Live stream, add them to an OBS VLC Video source, then enable Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist. Looping restarts playback when the list ends; shuffle randomizes the files’ order. OBS documentation does not promise that shuffle prevents the last video in one cycle from being followed by that same video at the start of the next.
Set up a looping, shuffled playlist in OBS
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. The OBS VLC Video source requires VLC; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS lists the source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.
- In OBS, select the scene where you want the videos to appear. In the Sources dock, click + and choose VLC Video. Give the source a name if prompted.
- In the source properties, add more than one video file to the playlist. Use the file-list controls in the properties window to add or remove items as needed.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback starts again after the source reaches the end of its list.
- Enable Shuffle Playlist so OBS randomizes the files’ playback order rather than following the listed order.
- Confirm the source properties and check that the video appears in the scene. Start the YouTube Live stream from OBS when the scene is ready.
OBS’s documented controls are named Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist. Labels and layouts can change between OBS versions, so if your installed version looks different, consult its source properties and the current OBS documentation.
What shuffle does—and what it does not guarantee
Shuffle randomizes the playlist’s order; it is not a documented rule that forbids the same file from playing twice in succession. In particular, OBS’s documentation does not establish that the last item of one loop and the first item of the next must be different. If you require a strict no-adjacent-repeat guarantee, Loop Playlist plus Shuffle Playlist is not documented as providing it.

YouTube’s playlist-repeat option is a separate player feature; it does not set the order of files in an OBS source. Likewise, a YouTube stream key configures where an encoder sends its feed so YouTube can receive it—it does not control playlist order inside OBS. Troubleshooting
- VLC Video is missing from the Sources menu: Install VLC, then reopen OBS and check again. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist plays once and stops: Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist.
- The videos always play in list order: Enable Shuffle Playlist. This randomizes order but does not establish a strict no-repeat guarantee.
- You enabled loop in YouTube but the OBS files still repeat in their listed order: YouTube’s player loop applies to playback in the YouTube player. Set loop and shuffle on the OBS VLC Video source instead.
- The live feed reaches YouTube but the video order is wrong: A stream key handles feed delivery, not source playlist ordering. Change the VLC Video source’s playlist controls in OBS.
