To repeat a local nature video into a one-hour file on Ubuntu, run ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4 -t 01:00:00 -map 0 -c copy output.mp4. Replace the filenames and duration as needed. The loop option repeats the input; the duration stops the output after one hour. Stream copying avoids re-encoding when the streams and MP4 container are compatible.
Make a finite looped video

Open a terminal and check the installed FFmpeg build with
ffmpeg -version. Ubuntu releases can ship different builds; for example, the Ubuntu Jammy manual identifies package build7:4.4.2-0ubuntu0.22.04.1. For options and encoders available on your machine, consultman ffmpeg. The FFmpeg project notes that its regenerated online documentation corresponds to the newest revision, so it may not match an older installed build: FFmpeg command-line documentation and Ubuntu Jammy FFmpeg package. -
Put the source video in a known location, then run:
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4 -t 01:00:00 -map 0 -c copy output.mp4Change

Let FFmpeg finish, then open the output and check the beginning, end, picture, and sound. The command asks FFmpeg to copy all input streams into the output without re-encoding; that works only when the selected streams and output container are compatible.
What each FFmpeg option does
-
-stream_loop -1tells FFmpeg to loop the corresponding input indefinitely;0means no looping. It is an input option, so place it before the relevant-i. See the FFmpeg main options. -
-i input.mp4identifies the source file. -
-t 01:00:00limits the output to the requested duration. Keep this for a finite render. If you omit it, the repeated input has no duration-based stopping point; an ordinary output file can continue growing until you stop FFmpeg.Rank #2

-map 0requests all streams from the input, which may include multiple audio tracks, subtitles, or other streams. A stream that the destination container cannot carry can prevent the requested output from working as intended.Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. -c copyrequests stream copying, rather than decoding and encoding the media again. It is usually faster and avoids another lossy encode, but does not convert incompatible codecs or make every source stream suitable for MP4. See FFmpeg FAQ.

If stream copying fails, remove -c copy and select encoders appropriate to the source, output container, and playback device. Encoder names and availability depend on the installed build; check ffmpeg -encoders and the local manual rather than assuming every Ubuntu installation has the same options.

Repeat playback versus an imperceptible loop
FFmpeg’s loop option repeats the source. It does not add a crossfade or repair an abrupt change between the last and first frames or audio samples. A repeated ambience clip can therefore have a visible jump, sudden change in wind or water, or an audible click at each boundary. Inspect the join. If it distracts, edit the source endpoints or use a transition workflow; there is no universal seamless-loop command for arbitrary files.
For multiple segments or a prepared transition, FFmpeg’s concatenation methods have requirements: arbitrary files cannot necessarily be joined directly, and stream properties may need to match or be prepared first. Consult the FFmpeg FAQ before building a multi-file workflow.

The output stops too soon or runs too long: Check the value after
-t. It sets the output duration; use the desired hours, minutes, and seconds, or omit it only when you intend to keep the process running until stopped.Rank #4

FFmpeg does not repeat the clip: Confirm
-stream_loop -1appears before the-ifor that source. A value of0means no loop. -
MP4 output fails or a stream is missing:
-map 0requests every input stream, and not every stream is supported in every output container. Try mapping only the video and audio streams you need, or choose compatible encoders and a suitable container. -
The output has no sound or an unexpected audio track: The source may have multiple audio streams or unusual mapping. Inspect the input streams and select the intended audio stream explicitly rather than relying on

The loop clicks or jumps at the join: Repetition does not smooth the boundary. Edit the source or create a suitable transition, then check the join again.

An option or encoder is unrecognized: Check
ffmpeg -versionandman ffmpeg. Ubuntu package versions vary, while FFmpeg’s regenerated online docs may describe a newer revision.
