To play podcast episodes in order on YouTube Live, add the episode files to an OBS VLC Video source, leave Shuffle Playlist off, and check the file list for duplicates before starting. Turn on Loop Playlist only if you want the whole sequence to start again after its final episode. That setting repeats the configured list; OBS documentation does not describe it as detecting duplicate files.
Understand what is looping
YouTube’s playlist Loop control is for a viewer replaying videos in the YouTube player. An encoder-fed live broadcast works differently: an encoder sends its output to YouTube Live using a stream URL and stream key. Clicking Loop on a YouTube podcast playlist does not configure that encoder workflow. YouTube’s viewer playlist loop instructions and its encoder streaming instructions describe separate functions.
On YouTube, a podcast show is a playlist and each episode is a video. YouTube recommends arranging full-length episodes in their intended consumption order. YouTube’s podcast setup guide explains the platform’s podcast structure.
Set up an ordered episode playlist in OBS
- Prepare the files. Gather the local video files for the episodes you want to broadcast. Decide the intended order before adding them.
- Add the source. In OBS, add a VLC Video source and select the episode files in that order. VLC Media Player must be installed for OBS’s VLC playlist source to work.
- Keep the sequence predictable. Leave Shuffle Playlist off. Enable Loop Playlist only if you want playback to restart from the beginning after the final file. These are separate controls in OBS’s Media Sources guide.
- Check for duplicates yourself. Inspect the entries in the source list for repeated files, then run a test playback and confirm the order and audio/video. The loop setting repeats the complete configured list; the cited OBS instructions do not describe an exactly-once or duplicate-detection guarantee.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Keep the key confidential: YouTube describes it as the encoder’s password and address.
- Preview, then go live. Start streaming from OBS, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, and then start the broadcast there. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality during the event, as advised in YouTube’s streaming tips.
- End the broadcast cleanly. End the event in Live Control Room and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived in its encoder guide.
Check the playlist before going live
- Confirm every intended episode appears once in the OBS file list; do not assume the player will remove duplicates.
- Confirm the files are ordered as listeners should hear them and that shuffle is off.
- Decide whether the stream should stop at the last episode or restart from episode one. Loop Playlist controls the latter behavior for the full list.
- Test the source before the public event, then use Live Control Room’s preview and health monitoring to catch playback or stream problems early.
Alternative for scheduled prerecorded streaming
YouTube names AJA PlayToStream as an option for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. The cited YouTube guide does not establish that it guarantees each episode will play exactly once, so check its capabilities against your sequencing needs before relying on it. YouTube’s encoder guide is the reference for that option.

Common problems and fixes
An episode plays twice
Inspect the VLC source’s file entries for an accidental duplicate. Loop Playlist repeats the entire configured list; it does not establish that every episode occurs only once.
Episodes play in a different order than expected
Check the order of files in the VLC Video source and make sure Shuffle Playlist is off.

The playlist restarts when you did not want it to
Turn off Loop Playlist if the sequence should end after its final file. If you want a continuous broadcast, leave it enabled and remember that the same configured sequence will begin again.
YouTube is not receiving the encoder output
Check that OBS is using the stream URL and stream key for the stream selected in Live Control Room. Start the encoder and wait for its preview before starting the live event in YouTube Studio.

The VLC Video source will not play the files
Confirm VLC Media Player is installed, which OBS requires for this source, and test the playlist before the broadcast.
