VideoLAN documents a VLM broadcast loop for restarting an input list; YouTube requires an encoder that supports the ingest protocol selected in Live Control Room. The available documentation does not confirm that a particular VLC version can publish directly to YouTube over its current RTMPS endpoint, so verify encoder compatibility before relying on VLC alone.
What VLC’s loop does—and what it does not
VideoLAN’s VLM reference says a broadcast configured with loop automatically restarts its input list after the last input finishes. That handles repetition; it does not establish a connection to YouTube or prove that the outgoing stream will stay uninterrupted.
VLC Desktop 3.0’s documented playlist example uses sout-keep to prevent the stream from breaking when a playlist item ends. The example sends an HTTP stream to a receiver on the local network, not to YouTube. Treat it as a version-specific continuity example, not a YouTube configuration or a guarantee of seamless transitions.
Prepare the showroom footage and playlist
- Choose the playback plan. Use a single file if the same showroom presentation should repeat, or arrange the desired clips as an input list if the presentation should cycle through several videos.
- Check the content before streaming. Confirm that the footage and audio play as intended, including the beginning and end of each clip. Make sure you have rights to the video, music, and other material you broadcast; looping a file does not grant permission to use it.
- Decide how you will encode to YouTube. YouTube requires an encoder that supports the selected ingest protocol. The documentation reviewed here does not establish direct RTMPS publishing for a particular VLC release or give a validated method to wire VLC playback into a separate encoder. Check the installed version and encoder’s protocol support rather than assuming VLC’s playback loop is enough.
Configure repetition with VLC VLM
VLM (VideoLAN Manager) lets you define a broadcast with an input list and output. In the VLM reference, loop makes playback restart the list after its final input finishes; unloop disables that behavior. The exact commands and available controls can depend on the VLC version and how it is configured, so use the VideoLAN VLM reference for the syntax supported by your installation.

For playlist streaming, VideoLAN’s VLC Desktop 3.0 example uses sout-keep so the stream is not broken when a playlist item ends. Its receiver opens a local HTTP URL. Do not substitute that example’s local-network output for YouTube’s server URL: they are different destinations and protocols.
Connect an encoder to YouTube Live
RTMPS
YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL and says the encoder must support RTMPS. In Live Control Room, open the stream settings, reveal the RTMPS URL with the lock icon, and copy the current server URL and stream key into the compatible encoder. YouTube’s documented setup is based on the values shown in your account, so do not hard-code a server address from an example. Keep the stream key private: it is the credential that lets an encoder publish to your channel.

YouTube Help states: “You can stream to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” If the encoder reports an SSL error, YouTube’s guidance includes checking the protocol and server URL and, in certain SSL-error cases, suggests port 443.
HLS
YouTube also documents HLS ingestion. It requires an HLS-capable encoder, an HLS-specific URL and stream key, and compliance with YouTube’s playlist and segment requirements. YouTube specifies TS segments of 1–4 seconds, no byte ranges, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no encryption beyond HTTPS. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it delivers segments rather than a continuous stream. HLS is an alternative ingest protocol, not a VLC looping feature.

Test before starting the public event
Run a private or unlisted test, or another appropriate test workflow, before scheduling a public showroom stream. This is a recommended check, not a claim that a particular VLC-to-YouTube setup has been tested.
- Confirm the intended single file or full input list repeats after the final clip.
- Watch YouTube’s preview through a clip boundary and into the next playback cycle; confirm that the outgoing feed remains active.
- Check picture, aspect ratio, audio level, and synchronization in the preview.
- Confirm the encoder is using the current URL and protocol shown in Live Control Room, and that the stream key has not been exposed.
Choose the right route for continuity

Troubleshooting
The video ends instead of repeating
Check that looping is enabled for the VLM broadcast and that the full intended playlist is its input list. The documented behavior restarts that list after its last input, so a missing or unintended list entry can change where the cycle ends.

The stream drops at a clip boundary
VLC Desktop 3.0’s example uses sout-keep to avoid breaking a stream when a playlist item ends, but the example is not a universal guarantee. Confirm that your installed version and output configuration preserve the outgoing feed, then inspect the transition in a private or unlisted test.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
Check that the encoder supports the protocol selected in Live Control Room, and that you copied the current matching server URL and stream key. For RTMPS SSL errors, YouTube advises checking the protocol and server URL and suggests port 443 in certain cases. Do not publish or share the key while troubleshooting.

HLS is rejected or behaves unexpectedly
Check that the encoder supports HLS and follows YouTube’s requirements for TS segments, segment duration, playlist window, HTTPS requests, byte ranges, and encryption. HLS uses segmented delivery and has higher latency than RTMP, as YouTube explains.
You cannot verify direct VLC compatibility
Do not assume the VLM loop means VLC can publish directly to YouTube’s current RTMPS endpoint. Use an encoder whose support for the selected YouTube protocol is documented, and test the complete playback-to-ingest path before the public event. The cited VLC materials do not specify a validated bridge application or wiring procedure.
