Lower Streamlabs Mobile’s outgoing video bitrate first: it is the most direct control for reducing the stream’s data rate. If that still uses too much data, reduce resolution or frame rate, stream to YouTube alone, and check whether any connection feature is also using cellular data. The right settings depend on your content, connection, and tolerance for softer video or less-smooth motion.
Which settings reduce data use most?
Streamlabs describes video bitrate as the amount of data transmitted per second. Lowering it reduces the encoded video payload rate, but can also reduce image quality. Resolution and frame rate affect the quality target: lowering resolution reduces detail, while lowering frame rate can make movement look less smooth.
- Bitrate: Start here to reduce data per second directly.
- Resolution: Lower it if you need further savings and can accept less image detail.
- Frame rate: Consider 30 fps instead of 60 fps for mostly static content; fast-moving games or sports may look less smooth at the lower rate.
- Destinations and connections: Send to YouTube alone and check whether cellular data is being used alongside Wi-Fi.
Streamlabs Mobile documents controls for output resolution, expected frame rate, and maximum bitrate. Exact menu names can vary by platform or app version.
Change the settings in Streamlabs Mobile
- Open Streamlabs Mobile’s streaming settings and go to its video settings. Locate output resolution, frame rate, and maximum bitrate. The precise labels and menu path may differ between Android, iOS, and app versions.
- Lower the maximum bitrate by a modest amount, then check the picture and YouTube stream health. Avoid choosing an arbitrarily low rate: a very low bitrate can visibly degrade the picture or make the stream less robust.
- If the projected data use remains too high, lower resolution—for example, from 1080p to 720p. Reassess the image before making another change.
- If the content is mostly static, consider 30 fps rather than 60 fps. Check fast movement carefully; the tradeoff is motion smoothness, and savings are not a guaranteed fixed percentage.
- Choose YouTube as the only destination and disable simultaneous destinations you do not need. Streamlabs documents multistreaming as an Ultra feature, but the consulted documentation does not publish an exact additional-data multiplier.
- If you use Wi-Fi plus cellular or Network Boost, check your phone’s cellular-data usage settings and which connection is active. Streamlabs describes Network Boost as using multiple connections, such as Wi-Fi and cellular, for reliability—not as a data-saving control.
Use YouTube’s bitrate guidance as a reference
YouTube Help’s H.264 encoder guidance, as displayed on October 3, 2026, lists minimum and recommended ingest bitrates by resolution and frame rate. These are YouTube recommendations, not guaranteed Streamlabs Mobile presets or a promise about your carrier’s total data accounting.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| H.264 format | YouTube minimum | YouTube recommended |
|---|---|---|
| 480p30 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
Minimum is not the same as recommended. Use the figures as reference points when choosing a setting, then test the actual picture and stream health. YouTube says it detects the encoder settings and transcodes a live stream into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks; that does not remove the need to choose an ingest setting your connection can sustain.
Estimate data use before a long broadcast
For a sustained bitrate, approximate decimal gigabytes of encoded video payload per hour with this calculation: Mbps × 0.45. The table is derived from bitrate and time (using decimal GB, where 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes); it is not a measurement of Streamlabs Mobile or YouTube usage.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
| Sustained video bitrate | Approximate payload per hour | Approximate payload for 4 hours |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Mbps | 0.45 GB | 1.8 GB |
| 3 Mbps | 1.35 GB | 5.4 GB |
| 5 Mbps | 2.25 GB | 9.0 GB |
| 8 Mbps | 3.6 GB | 14.4 GB |
Actual phone or carrier totals can differ. Audio, transport overhead, bitrate variation, reconnects, and other app traffic may affect the counter. Allow headroom rather than planning to use the full amount in your data allowance.
Test the setup before streaming for hours
- Set the bitrate, resolution, and frame rate you plan to use.
- Make a short test with similar movement and audio to the real broadcast. A static talking scene may not reveal the same picture-quality tradeoffs as fast gameplay.
- Check YouTube stream health during the test and look for visible softness, blockiness, or motion judder.
- Record the phone’s cellular-data counter immediately before and after. That gives you a device-specific observation for the tested duration and setup, not a universal per-hour figure.
- If needed, change one setting at a time and repeat the test so you can see which tradeoff is acceptable.
Troubleshoot data use and stream quality
- The data projection is still too high: Lower bitrate again in a small step, or reduce resolution. Recalculate using the new sustained bitrate and verify with the phone’s counter.
- The picture looks blocky or soft: The selected bitrate may be too low for the chosen resolution, frame rate, or scene. Raise bitrate if your data allowance permits, or lower resolution so the encoder has a less demanding image target.
- Fast motion looks choppy: A lower frame rate can make movement less smooth. If motion matters, consider keeping the higher frame rate and reducing resolution instead.
- The stream lags despite an apparently good connection: A connection reading alone does not establish that the upload remains reliable during the broadcast. Check YouTube stream health, test with similar movement and audio, and avoid settings your connection cannot sustain.
- Cellular data rises while Wi-Fi is active: Check the phone’s data-usage screen and Streamlabs connection settings. Network Boost can use multiple connections for reliability; its description does not establish that it saves data.
- Usage is higher than the estimate: The estimate covers video payload at a sustained bitrate only. Compare the cellular counter over a controlled test and allow for audio, overhead, reconnects, changing bitrate, and unrelated app traffic.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your broadcast is a pre-recorded video or playlist rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is a different option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
