You can run a continuous Bollywood radio-style livestream on YouTube with a playlist and an encoder, but the first step is not choosing equipment: it is clearing the rights to every recording and composition, and arranging any required Content ID allowlisting. Once that is settled, prepare a rights-cleared audio-and-visual program, connect an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room, test the stream, and plan session lengths around YouTube’s 12-hour automatic-archive threshold.
Clear the music rights before you build the stream
A YouTube livestream does not grant you permission to play Bollywood catalog music. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have all necessary rights for worldwide use on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The terms also refer to public performance licenses. In practice, a track may involve separate rights in the sound recording and in the underlying musical and literary work; permission for one does not necessarily clear the other.
Ask the relevant rights holders or their authorized representatives for written confirmation that covers the specific recordings and works, worldwide YouTube livestreaming, the territories where the stream will be available, any replay or archive, and monetization if you intend to monetize. Confirm whether the channel must be added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist, and get confirmation that it has been done before launch. A license alone does not ensure YouTube’s automated systems will leave a stream uninterrupted: YouTube scans livestreams for third-party matches and says a stream may be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted or terminated if a match remains. If the channel is not allowlisted when required, even licensed material may trigger a disruption.
- Keep a track-by-track record of the recording, composition, rights holder, covered territories, permitted uses, term, and allowlist status.
- Keep license documents and allowlist confirmations available to whoever monitors the channel.
- If you cannot establish the necessary rights for a track or cannot meet the owner’s allowlisting requirements, leave it out or do not launch the catalog-based broadcast.
There is no universal Bollywood livestream royalty amount or standard license fee established here. Do not assume a license for radio, a physical release, a single country, or another platform covers a worldwide YouTube livestream.

India-specific note
India’s Copyright Rules, 2013 include a statutory licensing procedure for eligible broadcasting organizations, and the Copyright Act defines “broadcast” and “communication to the public.” Those provisions are relevant context, not proof that a particular YouTube internet livestream qualifies or that the procedure clears every recording and composition right. The application to a specific channel, catalogue and audience is not established here; get India-specific legal advice before relying on that route.
Plan the radio program and its visuals
Decide what viewers will see as well as hear. A static station card, a visualizer, a now-playing display, or presenter segments can accompany the audio, but you need rights to use those visuals too. Do not assume you may display album covers, film footage, lyrics, promotional art or artist photographs simply because the songs are licensed. This follows from YouTube’s requirement that the provider hold the necessary rights for all live content.
Build a playlist schedule from the tracks you have cleared, and mark which rights and territories apply to each item. If your permissions differ by track, a schedule helps the operator avoid inserting material outside its permitted use. For a mostly static radio visual, test a modest resolution before choosing a higher one: the visual’s motion, connection stability and viewer devices matter more than a resolution number by itself.

Prepare YouTube Live Control Room and the encoder
- Verify the channel early. YouTube for Artists advises first-time live streamers to verify their account at least 24 hours before going live. Do not leave first-time setup until the launch window.
- Create or select the live stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select a stream. Schedule the event if you want viewers to find it in advance; confirm the event’s title, visibility and start time before connecting the encoder.
- Copy the stream connection details. Use the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube in the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube documents RTMP/RTMPS and supported codecs; choose a protocol and codec that both the encoder and YouTube support.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key like a password. Do not put it in a public screenshot, document or chat. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s live-stream settings and update the encoder before broadcasting.
- Connect the program output. Configure your software or hardware encoder to send the prepared audio-and-visual output to YouTube. For a radio setup, make sure the playlist source feeds the encoder continuously and that the chosen visual remains present when tracks change.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm that the correct event is selected, audio is audible and clean, the visual is present, and Live Control Room reports a healthy incoming signal before you start the public broadcast.
Choose stable video, audio and network settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its recommended H.264 video bitrates include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 frames per second and 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 frames per second. Its audio guidance is 128 Kbps for stereo. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees of a particular picture or sound quality; consult YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance when configuring, since recommendations can change.

Choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain for the whole session. YouTube advises leaving upload-bandwidth headroom; its streaming tips recommend 20% room above the stream’s required bandwidth. Test with audio and motion similar to the actual program rather than relying on a short test with a different workload. If the stream drops frames or becomes unstable, reduce the output bitrate or resolution and test again rather than pushing the connection to its limit.
Test and operate the stream
Run a preflight before launch
- Listen for silence, clipping, uneven levels and gaps between playlist items.
- Check that the visual remains on screen and that any now-playing information changes correctly.
- Watch the encoder and YouTube preview for stability using a test workload that resembles the real program.
- Confirm the network has headroom at the selected bitrate; where possible, test the backup encoder or recovery process as well.
- Check that the event is the one intended for viewers and that the key and stream URL belong to that event.
Monitor the broadcast and keep records
During operation, watch stream health and YouTube Studio for copyright notices or warnings. Keep the rights schedule, license documents and allowlist confirmations accessible to the operator. If YouTube reports a third-party match, follow the rights holder’s documented process and do not assume that simply restarting the encoder will resolve a rights or allowlisting issue.

Decide how to handle 24-hour continuity and archives
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A single continuous session lasting 12 hours or more is therefore not something to rely on for automatic archiving. If you need replayable broadcasts, plan bounded sessions shorter than 12 hours, verify each resulting video in YouTube Studio, and coordinate the handoffs so the channel can resume without an avoidable gap. A session handoff can briefly interrupt the live feed; test your schedule and operator procedure before announcing uninterrupted coverage.
If a replay is part of your plan, make sure the rights you obtained also cover archived playback. Permission for the live transmission does not automatically establish permission for a retained replay. Keep the stream schedule and resulting archive records together so you can confirm which tracks appeared in each session.

Choose a software or hardware encoder for the do-it-yourself setup
YouTube documents software encoding and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for events with higher production values. A radio-style program with a simple visual may work with a stable software-and-computer setup; dedicated hardware is an option, not a stated requirement. Either way, the encoder and its host need to remain available for the broadcast, and you need an operating plan for power, network or application failures.

For either approach, a backup encoder test is useful for continuity planning. A UPS may help keep local encoder and network equipment powered through some interruptions, but it cannot fix a failed internet connection or resolve a copyright match.

YouTube shows no incoming video or audio
Check that the encoder has the correct stream URL and key for the selected Live Control Room event, that the source is routed into the encoder, and that the encoder is actually sending. Recheck the stream preview before starting or restarting the event.
The stream buffers, drops frames or disconnects
Compare the chosen bitrate with available upload capacity and leave the recommended headroom. Test on the actual connection and workload. If needed, lower the bitrate or output resolution, then repeat the preflight. Check the local network and encoder host before assuming the issue is on YouTube’s side.

YouTube interrupts the stream over third-party content
Review the Studio notice and identify the matched material. Confirm that the rights cover the exact recording, composition, territory and live use, and ask the rights holder whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting. If it does, obtain confirmation that the channel was added. A restart by itself does not grant missing rights or guarantee the match will not recur.
The live broadcast works but the replay is missing
Check the session length and YouTube Studio. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; do not assume an equal archive outcome for a longer session. For future replays, use sessions shorter than that threshold and verify the resulting videos.
Budget for rights and monetization separately
The platform sources here do not establish a Bollywood-specific royalty amount, universal license fee, or guaranteed monetization outcome. Obtain actual rights-holder terms for the catalogue and territories you plan to use. Permission to livestream music is not, by itself, proof that a channel or repetitive music-radio format meets YouTube monetization or reused-content requirements; check YouTube’s current Partner Program rules before building a revenue plan around the broadcast.
