To run an exam-preparation stream continuously on YouTube, prepare a repeatable programme, send it through a verified channel using an encoder, and arrange for someone to monitor the stream and respond to interruptions. Choose video settings your actual upload connection can sustain, keep the stream key private, and use study materials you have rights to use. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube, so keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy.
How do you set up a 24/7 exam-preparation stream on YouTube in India?
YouTube offers mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming routes. For a continuous study programme with a fixed layout, scheduled lessons, screen content, or multiple sources, an encoder-based setup gives you more production control. It also needs more configuration and testing than a straightforward webcam presentation. Neither setup is inherently more reliable: reliability depends on the connection, configuration, monitoring, and recovery plan.

YouTube describes both computer-and-webcam streaming and encoder workflows. A laptop with a webcam can be used, but buying a dedicated computer is optional; first decide what the format requires.
Check channel eligibility
- Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days.
- The person operating the channel must be at least 16 years old.
- Choose a production method that matches the content. A phone or webcam can suit a live teacher; a persistent schedule, slides, pre-recorded lessons, or several inputs generally call for an encoder workflow.
Plan the study programme
Make the stream useful to a learner who joins midway. A visible timetable, current subject and topic, clear transitions between lessons and breaks, and a chat moderation plan are practical editorial choices—not YouTube requirements. Keep on-screen text legible at the resolution you intend to stream, and test that spoken explanations and any permitted media are audible at normal playback volume.

Plan who will supervise the feed and what they will do if the encoder, computer, power, or internet connection fails. YouTube recommends testing and continuously monitoring stream quality; that guidance is not a guarantee that a stream will remain live unattended for 24 hours. Local power and internet conditions vary, so assess your own location and equipment rather than assuming one setup will suit all of India.
What video settings and internet speed should you use?
YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations below are configuration guidance, not a performance test or a promise that a particular connection can sustain the stream. Choose a bitrate your outbound connection can maintain, then test it. YouTube automatically transcodes streams for playback formats, but that does not remove the need for a stable upload from your encoder.

Allow upload headroom
YouTube Help says, “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.” YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. For example, a single stream configured at the recommended 14 Mbps for 1080p30 would call for about 16.8 Mbps of upload capacity with that headroom (14 × 1.2). This is a planning calculation, not a guarantee: other devices or streams using the same connection also consume capacity. Check upload—not just download—speed, and test while the connection is being used as it will be during the actual programme.

Set encoder options
- Codec and frame rate: Use H.264 and select a resolution and frame rate your hardware and connection can sustain. The listed bitrate examples are for 30 fps.
- Bitrate mode: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR). Do not set a bitrate simply because the encoder permits it; match it to the connection you tested.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval, as YouTube recommends.
- Protocol: Use RTMPS, YouTube’s recommended secure streaming protocol.
- Audio and sources: Check the selected microphone and any screen or media sources in the encoder preview. Ensure no private notifications, unrelated windows, or unlicensed audio will appear on stream.
Use YouTube’s published bitrate guidance as a starting point, not as evidence that a connection in any particular Indian city or network can sustain it. If the feed drops frames or becomes unstable during a full test, reduce resolution or bitrate and test again.
How do you connect an encoder and start the YouTube stream?
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Review its title, description, audience settings, and visibility before launch.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube’s encoder setup, then enter them in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen, share it publicly, or include it in a public document. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube’s live-stream settings before continuing.
- Configure and save the encoder output using the resolution, bitrate, CBR, two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS settings you have chosen. Confirm the correct microphone, video source, and layout are selected.
- Start the encoder and check the YouTube preview before making the stream public or beginning the scheduled programme. Verify that the preview has picture and sound and that YouTube reports a healthy incoming feed.
- Check playback from another device, ideally on a separate connection. Confirm the title and schedule are correct, the picture is readable, sound is clear, and the intended viewers can access the stream.
- Keep a local recording if the programme must be preserved, and confirm in advance that the recording actually captures the full output. Decide who can stop and restart the encoder or reconnect the feed if the stream fails.
How do you test and monitor an all-day stream?
Before relying on the setup, run a test stream through the entire pipeline. A short preview can catch configuration mistakes, but also test for long enough to expose problems that occur after the initial start. YouTube advises creators to test and monitor quality; the checks below are practical ways to apply that advice, not a claim that a test proves 24-hour reliability.
- Picture: Check focus, framing, text legibility, and whether the selected layout stays correct when sources change.
- Audio: Listen on another device for clear speech, reasonable levels, unwanted noise, and audio-video sync.
- Stream health: Watch the encoder and YouTube status for dropped frames, connection warnings, or an unhealthy incoming stream.
- Viewer access: Confirm the stream plays on a separate device and that its visibility matches the intended audience.
- Recording and recovery: Confirm the local recording is saved and usable; rehearse the response to an encoder or connection interruption, including who is responsible for it.
- Long-run operation: Check the computer, encoder, network, and any scheduled media under the conditions in which they will operate. Arrange human supervision and a way to contact the operator.
Do not treat a successful start as proof that a feed can run unattended. A 24-hour service needs an operational plan for interruptions, not just a configured stream key.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour stream for replay?
Do not promise viewers that a single all-day stream will become a complete YouTube replay. YouTube Help states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube separately warns that DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Keep a local recording if the lessons need to be preserved or reused.
Scheduling separate sessions may make a programme easier to organise, but it does not guarantee that every session will be archived. Check the resulting replay and keep the local copy rather than relying on YouTube capture alone.

Use original study materials or material for which the channel has the necessary rights. Review everything viewers can hear or see, including background music, film or television clips, illustrations, question papers, slides, and third-party teaching material. A material being educational, publicly available, or included in a lesson does not by itself establish that you have permission to stream it.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If copyrighted material remains in the stream, YouTube may interrupt or terminate it. A licence may not prevent interruption unless the rights holder has added the channel to an allowlist. Check rights with the relevant owner and do not assume that a licence automatically bypasses YouTube’s live matching systems.
YouTube’s live-stream terms also require creators to have the necessary rights and comply with laws and regulations that apply in the territory where the stream is broadcast.
