YouTube can receive an encoder’s feed again, but it does not promise to restart your music playlist at the exact song or timestamp where it stopped. To recover a stream, check whether its broadcast is still active, reconnect your encoder using that event’s stream URL and key, and confirm the feed in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Whether playback resumes at the last song depends on the player or encoder you use—not on a YouTube “resume last song” setting.
First, separate the live feed from the song position
Your encoder or playback system sends audio and video to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key. YouTube treats the incoming feed and the public broadcast event as distinct resources: reconnecting the feed does not prove that a completed broadcast can be reopened, nor does it restore a playlist’s position. YouTube’s documentation describes these separate resources but does not guarantee exact-song recovery after an interruption. Google for Developers: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams
The practical goal is therefore twofold: restore the feed to the intended event if that event is still active, then check what the playback source does after restart. Depending on that source, it may continue from a saved position, restart the current file, begin the playlist again, or advance to another item. Test the behavior with your own setup before leaving it unattended.
Recover the stream after a drop
- Inspect the event in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Check whether the intended event is still active, whether YouTube is receiving an encoder feed, and whether the stream has a health or policy warning. YouTube documents Live Control Room as the place to manage live-stream settings. Manage live stream settings
- Check the playback source. Look at the computer, player, or encoder that is supplying the music. Confirm it is running, the intended playlist is loaded, and its playback position or restart behavior is what you expect. YouTube does not control that playlist state.
- Reconnect the encoder to the intended event. Restart or reconnect the encoder, then use the stream URL and stream key associated with that event. YouTube says the URL is the encoder’s destination and the key lets YouTube accept its feed. Reusing prior stream settings is supported; do not reset the key unless there is a reason to do so. Manage live stream settings
- Verify before announcing recovery. Wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room, check the live preview for both picture and sound, and confirm that the intended event is active. If the event is explicitly complete, the reviewed YouTube documentation does not establish that it can be reopened; decide whether viewers need a different broadcast event and watch-page link.
- Check for a copyright or policy interruption. If YouTube reports a third-party-content warning, strike, or other policy problem, address that issue rather than repeatedly restarting the encoder. A feed reconnect alone will not resolve a rights issue.

Stream keys and URLs
A stream key is a credential: YouTube describes stream keys as like a stream’s “password and address.” Keep it private and use the key associated with the event you intend to restore. If it has been exposed, use YouTube’s controls to replace it and update the encoder with the new key. Manage live stream settings

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Auto-start, auto-stop, and DVR
YouTube offers auto-start and auto-stop settings for eligible stream setups. These govern how a broadcast starts or stops in relation to the encoder feed; they are not a watchdog promise to restart a failed encoder or save a music playlist position. DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue watching during a live stream. It is a viewer playback control, not an operator tool for resuming the playlist after an encoder restart. Manage live stream settings
When to use another event
Restore the current feed when Live Control Room shows the intended broadcast is still active and the encoder can send to its configured URL and key. If the event is complete, or the current event is no longer the one you want viewers to watch, use an appropriate new event rather than assuming the old one can be reopened. If you change events, make sure the encoder destination and the link shared with viewers match the new event. YouTube’s API documentation distinguishes the feed from the broadcast; it does not promise recovery of a completed event. Understanding Broadcasts and Streams

Check music rights before restarting
“Indian music” does not by itself mean you have permission to broadcast a particular recording, composition, performance, or visual. Verify that your rights cover the material and the territories in which you plan to stream. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content; a match can result in a warning, a placeholder replacing the stream, a temporary interruption, or termination. Copyright or Community Guidelines strikes can also end a stream. Copyright issues with live streams
- If you licensed the music: ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a licensed live stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, including when territorial restrictions apply. Copyright issues with live streams
- If you are coordinating a music-channel broadcast: YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream. Going live for music channels
- If the interruption was rights-related: resolve the warning or rights-holder issue before trying to send the same material again. Restarting the encoder does not grant permission or remove a Content ID match.
Test last-song recovery before relying on 24/7 playback
Run a planned restart while you can watch both the playback source and Live Control Room. Note the current song and approximate position, stop and restart the encoder or player using the same recovery steps you would use after a real drop, and observe whether playback resumes at that position, restarts a file, or moves elsewhere. This is a practical test, not a YouTube guarantee. Repeat it after changing your playlist, encoder, or playback arrangement, since those components determine the behavior.

Troubleshoot common recovery problems
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no feed after the encoder restarts | The encoder is stopped, or it is using the wrong destination URL or stream key. | Confirm the playback and encoder are running, then check the URL and key against the intended event’s settings. Keep the key private. |
| The feed returns, but playback starts at the beginning or a different song | The playback source restarted or selected a different playlist position. | Check that source’s playback state and restart behavior. YouTube does not provide a documented last-song resume setting. |
| The preview returns, but the original public event is not active | The broadcast may have ended or may not be the event currently receiving the feed. | Check the event state and encoder destination. If the event is complete, do not assume it can be reopened; use the event appropriate for the next broadcast and share its link. |
| YouTube shows a copyright warning or the stream is interrupted again | A third-party-content match or other policy issue may still be affecting the broadcast. | Review the notice and address the rights issue. For licensed content, contact the owner about Content ID allowlisting before retrying. |
| Viewers can rewind, but the music playlist has not resumed | DVR controls viewer playback of the live stream; they do not control the encoder’s playlist. | Restore or inspect the playback source separately from viewer DVR controls. |
