First verify your channel, secure rights to every recording and visual, configure and test the encoder, then monitor the stream and plan for interruptions. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast is not a dependable archive.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance describes channel verification and eligibility: YouTube live streaming tips.
- An encoder: software on a capable computer or a hardware encoder. YouTube describes encoder streaming as suitable for productions that use external audio or video, overlays, or a more controlled presentation: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the selected bitrate, plus audio and visual assets you have permission to stream.
- A plan for supervision, recovery after a disconnect, and a local recording if you need an archive.
Choose the mantra and recording responsibly
There is no single mantra text, pronunciation, translation, or recording established here as the definitive version for every tradition. Choose a specific text and recitation from a source appropriate to your practice, and identify what that source authorizes. A traditional text does not automatically make a particular performance, arrangement, translation, sound recording, image, or looping visual free to use.
YouTube’s live-stream terms make the channel responsible for necessary rights to its live content, including music licensing rights. Keep written permissions and license details for the exact assets and territories involved. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can replace the stream with a placeholder and, if the content continues, temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even licensed content can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. See YouTube’s livestream terms and YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Set up a YouTube encoder stream
- Enable and schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live, then use the Live Control Room to create or schedule a stream and select encoder streaming. Complete any channel verification or enablement steps YouTube presents. If your channel has a live restriction from the previous 90 days, resolve that before relying on a new broadcast.
- Prepare the program. Add the authorized mantra recording and visual to your encoder’s scene or playlist. Check that the audio plays continuously, the image is intentional, and any transitions or loops work as expected. Avoid adding unrelated music or graphics whose rights you have not confirmed.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into the encoder’s YouTube output settings. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your stream. Use RTMPS where the encoder supports it; YouTube recommends the secure RTMPS protocol.
- Set output parameters. Choose a resolution and frame rate that match the source and the connection. YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, or AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps. For H.264 it recommends CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, not over 4 seconds. Its recommended H.264 bitrates include 5 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are encoder recommendations, not guaranteed minimum internet speeds; use the full table for other combinations at YouTube’s encoder settings page.
- Start a test and inspect it. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check the watch page from another device or browser, listen for clean audio, verify that the visual is not frozen or cropped, and inspect stream health before treating the setup as ready. Plan upload bandwidth, monitoring, and archives
Test upload speed on the actual network and account for other devices and traffic; download speed does not establish upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload headroom beyond the stream bitrate. For example, a 10 Mbps stream needs more than 10 Mbps of available upload capacity to leave that margin, and you should account for any simultaneous backup stream bitrate where applicable. For a locally operated setup, the computer or encoder, router, and internet connection must remain available. Check the stream after launch and have a person or process able to respond to an encoder crash, lost network, or YouTube interruption. A UPS can help keep local equipment powered during some outages, but it cannot restore an unavailable internet connection.
Do not count on YouTube to preserve one continuous 24-hour stream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all: Archive live streams. If a recording matters, enable local recording and verify the file; YouTube itself recommends a local archive as backup. Scheduled segments or planned restarts may be part of a continuity design, but determine and test the implementation with your chosen encoder or service rather than assuming YouTube will split and save a long broadcast for you.

Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: confirm the correct stream URL and key are in the encoder, the stream is started in the Live Control Room, and the key has not been mistyped or replaced.
- Buffering, dropped frames, or poor stream health: compare the encoder bitrate with measured upload capacity, reduce the bitrate or output resolution if necessary, and leave YouTube’s recommended headroom. Check whether other devices are using the connection.
- Audio is silent, distorted, or out of sync: check the encoder’s selected audio input, levels, and source playback; then run another representative test and listen on the YouTube preview or watch page.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: review YouTube’s notice and the rights for the exact recording and other matched material. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the owner has not allowlisted the channel.
- No complete YouTube archive appears: a broadcast over 12 hours may not be captured. Use a verified local recording for retention rather than relying on a 24-hour YouTube archive.
- The feed stops when nobody is present: local encoder streaming depends on the local device and network staying operational. Add monitoring and a recovery plan, or use a cloud service designed to keep uploaded video running.
