To run recorded coding lessons as a continuous YouTube livestream, send a playlist through an encoder: either keep streaming software running on a computer or use a cloud playout service. YouTube requires an active live-enabled channel, and its first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Choose how to keep the stream running
YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder. That can be streaming software or hardware at your location, or a cloud service that plays uploaded recordings. The local route gives you direct control of the encoder but depends on your device, power and internet connection staying available. Cloud playout shifts those dependencies to the provider, account and upload or playlist workflow.

YouTube’s encoder directory and setup guidance describes encoder workflows and identifies Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded video. YouTube says listed third-party products are not made by YouTube; directory inclusion is not an endorsement or a performance guarantee. Prices, uptime and playlist limits vary, and no comparable figures are established here.
Prepare your channel before building the playlist
Enable live streaming and verify the channel early. YouTube’s current guidance, accessed in 2026, says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. The channel must have no live-stream restrictions during the preceding 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s live streaming eligibility guidance before scheduling a launch.

Set up the do-it-yourself encoder stream
- Prepare the recordings. Export lessons in the formats and quality you intend to show, then arrange them in a deliberate order. Give the stream a clear title and description explaining that it contains prerecorded lessons. Add a simple way for viewers to find lesson topics, such as timestamps or a linked lesson list where appropriate. These presentation choices are recommendations, not YouTube requirements.
- Choose and install an encoder. Use streaming software or hardware that supports sending a live feed to YouTube. YouTube provides a directory of verified live encoders; verify that your selected product currently supports your intended workflow rather than assuming every encoder handles playlist playback.
- Create or schedule the YouTube livestream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream. For a scheduled stream, set its title and other viewer-facing details there. Exact menus can change, so follow the current labels displayed in Studio.
- Copy the connection details into the encoder. Copy YouTube’s stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming or destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in lesson footage. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Start the encoder and confirm the preview. Start sending the feed, then check Live Control Room for the incoming preview and status. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s workflow is to connect and start the encoder, preview the feed in Live Control Room, then select the control to go live.
- Verify the loop and monitor it. Confirm that playback advances through the intended lessons and returns to the beginning as expected. Keep a tested alert and recovery process: YouTube’s setup guidance describes Live Control Room but does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
Make recorded lessons work for people arriving at any time
- Order material so a viewer can enter midstream without needing the previous lesson to understand everything.
- Put the subject, programming language or level in lesson titles, and explain that the content is recorded rather than a live instructor session.
- Keep a lesson index or schedule accessible from the stream description so viewers can locate topics without waiting for a full loop.
- Review the loop for long gaps, accidental dead air, outdated instructions or private information visible on screen.
Check copyright and monetization before going live
Clear every element in the recordings
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including other broadcasts. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder; continued inclusion may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Use lesson footage, code walkthroughs, music, graphics and other material you own or have permission to use. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption: the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Do not treat looping as a monetization shortcut
YouTube applies its monetization policies to livestreams. It expects original, authentic content and identifies repetitive or mass-produced material as inauthentic; reused content is reviewed separately. Your own useful lessons are not automatically guaranteed monetization approval simply because they are educational or self-produced. Make your authorship and teaching value clear, and do not rely on repetition as a workaround. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies.

Plan stream archives separately
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one continuous 24/7 broadcast will produce one complete archive. If a full recording matters, consider ending and restarting within the under-12-hour window, and verify the current behavior in YouTube Studio before relying on the archive.

Troubleshoot common problems
- Live streaming is not available yet: check channel verification, restrictions in the previous 90 days and whether first-time activation is still processing. YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no feed: confirm the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key were copied into the correct destination fields. Check for a mistyped or replaced key.
- The scheduled broadcast is not live to viewers: start the encoder, confirm the preview and status in Live Control Room, then use the go-live control for the scheduled stream.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder: inspect all audio and video for third-party content. If you have a license, ask the rights owner whether your channel needs Content ID allowlisting.
- The stream stops when your computer or connection fails: a local encoder depends on the device, power and network remaining available. Restore the feed and monitor YouTube Studio; if you do not want a computer to remain online, consider cloud playout.
- You do not get one complete archive: a continuous stream is longer than YouTube’s documented under-12-hour automatic archive window. Plan shorter sessions if a complete VOD is essential.
