Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To reconnect an OBS stream after a brief disconnection, open Settings > Advanced and enable Automatic Reconnect. That restores OBS’s connection to YouTube when the encoder is still running and YouTube can accept the feed; it does not restart OBS after a crash or guarantee that a YouTube broadcast that has ended will resume.
For reliable unattended recovery, check three separate things: OBS is running and sending, YouTube is receiving the correct stream, and the broadcast is still active. The fix depends on which part of that chain failed.
What “restart” means after a stream disconnects
A 24/7 stream depends on an encoder, an internet connection, YouTube’s ingest settings, and an active broadcast. “Restart” can refer to different failures, so identify the one you have before changing settings.
- OBS lost its connection: Automatic Reconnect can retry the encoder-to-YouTube connection.
- OBS crashed or closed: OBS cannot reconnect while it is not running. Something else must relaunch it.
- YouTube’s broadcast ended: Reconnecting the encoder does not necessarily resume that broadcast. You may need to start a broadcast again or configure a new one.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide and OBS’s overview guide describe different parts of this chain; neither makes uninterrupted operation failure-proof.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Enable OBS Automatic Reconnect
- In OBS, open Settings > Advanced.
- Find the Network or reconnect controls and enable Automatic Reconnect. OBS documents Automatic Reconnect as an Advanced setting; exact layout or labels may vary by version.
- Set the retry count and retry delay to allow for the interruptions you expect. OBS increases the wait between retries to avoid repeatedly overloading a service, so a longer outage may outlast the configured attempts. The OBS Output API reference documents retry count and interval behavior.
- Apply the change, then test a controlled interruption while you can observe both OBS and YouTube. Confirm that OBS retries and that YouTube’s preview returns; do not assume the setting worked solely because OBS still shows a streaming state.
Reconnect is for a feed interruption while OBS remains open. It is not a computer restart mechanism, an OBS crash watchdog, or a guarantee that YouTube will resume an ended broadcast.
Verify YouTube’s stream key, URL, and receiving state
Check the ingest details
In YouTube Studio, open Go live to reach Live Control Room and check the stream’s encoder settings. Confirm that OBS is using the matching stream key and stream URL. YouTube uses the key to identify and accept the encoder feed. If an encoder reports a start error, follow YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance and copy the current key from Live Control Room into OBS. Resetting a key is a troubleshooting step, not something to do after every brief drop.

YouTube also offers auto-start and auto-stop controls for live stream settings. Check the settings for the specific stream rather than assuming those controls will restart an encoder or revive an ended broadcast. See Manage live stream settings.
Use YouTube’s preview and stream health
Check whether Live Control Room shows a preview and healthy incoming feed. If there is no preview, investigate OBS output, your internet connection, the stream URL, and the key. If OBS says it is streaming but YouTube is not receiving usable video, the encoder’s status alone is not enough to confirm recovery. YouTube explains its stream-health checks in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

If the broadcast has already ended, sending video again may require another start action or a newly configured broadcast. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not promise that every ended stream will resume automatically. Its encoder guide also notes that streams can be archived, which is separate from keeping a broadcast live: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Make OBS relaunch after a crash or computer restart
Automatic Reconnect cannot help if OBS has stopped. For unattended operation, configure the computer or a process supervisor to start OBS again after a failure or reboot, and verify that the computer itself will remain powered on and connected. OBS supports the --startstreaming launch parameter to begin streaming when OBS launches; see OBS Launch Parameters.

That parameter only controls OBS’s launch behavior. It does not ensure the computer has restarted correctly, that the network is available, that credentials and the stream key are valid, or that YouTube’s broadcast is ready to accept the feed. Test the complete recovery path—including what happens after a reboot—before relying on it overnight.

- Test upload speed: YouTube recommends checking the available upload capacity and monitoring stream health. Leave enough headroom for the chosen encoder settings instead of treating a speed-test result as a guarantee.
- Test representative content: Include the audio and motion your stream will actually use during preflight checks. A static test image may not reveal problems that appear with more demanding content.
- Watch both ends: During testing, observe OBS’s connection and YouTube’s preview and health indicators. YouTube’s encoder settings guide covers testing and monitoring.
- Test distinct failures separately: Simulate a brief network interruption, an OBS restart, and—if relevant to your setup—a computer restart. Check what happens if the YouTube broadcast ends as well. Each requires a different recovery mechanism.
- Keep the configuration current: Confirm the stream key and URL in Live Control Room if you change the broadcast or encounter an encoder start error.
A wired Ethernet connection can be useful when diagnosing local network instability, but it is not a universal fix. First check the existing network connection and cable.

Troubleshooting: symptom, likely cause, and next step
| What you see | Likely issue | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS stopped and is no longer running | OBS closed or crashed; its reconnect control cannot relaunch it. | Inspect OBS status and logs, then configure and test a relaunch method. OBS’s --startstreaming launch parameter can start a stream when OBS launches, but does not supervise OBS or the computer. |
| OBS is running but repeatedly fails to connect | Network trouble, an incorrect ingest URL or key, or a YouTube-side receiving issue. | Check the connection, compare OBS’s URL and key with Live Control Room, and look for YouTube’s preview and health indicators. |
| YouTube shows an encoder start error | The encoder may be using an invalid or outdated key. | Follow YouTube’s encoder start-error steps; copy the current key from Live Control Room if instructed. |
| OBS appears to be streaming, but YouTube has no usable preview | The feed is not reaching or being accepted by YouTube. | Check OBS output, the network, stream URL and key, then YouTube stream health. Do not rely on OBS’s indicator alone. |
| The connection returns, but the broadcast is ended | The YouTube event may no longer be active. | Check Live Control Room and start or configure a broadcast as needed; automatic encoder reconnect does not guarantee resumption. |
| Reconnect attempts stop before service returns | The outage may have outlasted the configured retry attempts and increasing retry waits. | Review OBS’s reconnect retry settings and test an outage of realistic duration; also investigate the underlying network problem. |
