For one repeating video, use an OBS Studio Media Source with Loop enabled; for several videos, use an OBS VLC Video playlist with Loop Playlist enabled. First decide how the subtitles should appear: render them into the video for reliably visible words, or use a compatible live-caption delivery workflow for selectable closed captions. OBS’s official documentation does not confirm automatic loading of a separate SRT sidecar file, so test your exact files before relying on that.
Choose how viewers should see the subtitles
An SRT file is a subtitle text file, but its presence beside a video does not by itself establish that the text will appear in an OBS scene or be delivered to YouTube as live captions. Decide whether the words need to be visible to everyone or available as a selectable caption track.
For words visible to every viewer: render open captions
Use a copy of the video with subtitles rendered into its picture, then play that copy in OBS. This makes the text part of the image rather than a selectable caption track. Check that the captions are legible and correctly timed throughout the video, including near the beginning, middle, and end.
For selectable live captions: use a supported caption path
YouTube says live captions must be sent to YouTube. Its documented options are captions embedded in the video using EIA 608/CEA 708 or compatible caption software that sends captions over HTTP POST; YouTube’s guide says it currently supports one caption track. The reviewed documentation does not establish a plain SRT sidecar as a direct live-caption upload route through OBS. Use a compatible caption-delivery setup and test it independently. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Prepare and check the church’s files
- Match each video to its intended SRT file and confirm the video plays with the expected audio.
- Check subtitle timing at several points, including the start, middle, and end. Correct or re-render the video if timing or legibility is wrong.
- Choose the version you will actually stream: the caption-rendered copy for open captions, or the media and caption workflow required by your compatible live-caption setup.
- Run a local playback check before configuring the stream. Do not assume OBS will find or attach a separate SRT file automatically.
Set up looping playback in OBS
Loop one video with Media Source
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene you will use for the stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source. Create a new source, then browse to the local video file.
- Enable the source’s Loop option and confirm the video and audio play as intended.
- Check the scene framing and confirm that playback returns to the beginning when the clip ends.
OBS documents Media Source playback and looping for local media. That establishes a way to repeat the video, not a separate SRT-sidecar workflow. OBS Media Sources
Loop several videos in order with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC for its VLC Video source.
- In OBS, select + in the Sources panel and add a VLC Video source.
- Add the church’s video files to the source playlist in the desired order.
- Enable Loop Playlist. Leave Shuffle off if the order matters.
- If the media exposes a subtitle track, enable Subtitles Enabled and select the appropriate track. Verify the exact behavior with the installed OBS/VLC setup and your files; the OBS documentation does not confirm automatic detection of a separate SRT sidecar.
- Play through a transition and the end of the playlist to confirm that the sequence and loop behave as expected.
OBS’s VLC Video source includes playlist and subtitle-track controls, but those controls do not guarantee that an external SRT file will be detected. OBS Media Sources

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Confirm the channel is eligible to live stream. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube live eligibility
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and set up an encoder stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to obtain the stream URL and key. YouTube encoder setup
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key or connect the account if that option is offered in your installed version. Treat the key like a password; do not publish or share it.
- Use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS for ingest. Configure the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, and bitrate for the intended stream and connection, using YouTube’s current guidance rather than assuming one setting fits every source. YouTube encoder settings
- Start OBS’s stream and check the Live Control Room preview before making the broadcast public or sharing it with viewers.
Test before scheduling a service
Run an unlisted or private test first. A looping source only proves that OBS can repeat its media; it does not establish uninterrupted operation, caption delivery, archive behavior, or watch-page access.
- Check that the intended video and audio play, including transitions between playlist items.
- Verify subtitle appearance or selectable captions in the YouTube preview using the exact delivery method you plan to use.
- Check scene framing, stream health messages, and that the watch page is accessible to the intended audience.
- Confirm the channel’s archive and access settings meet the church’s needs.
- Keep monitoring audio and video during the stream. YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and movement, checking the Live Control Room preview, and monitoring stream health. YouTube live streaming tips
When a dedicated appliance may make sense
YouTube’s encoder list includes the AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream functionality as a way to schedule prerecorded media for YouTube Live without a computer. It is an optional specialized hardware route, not a requirement for the OBS method; check current availability and whether it supports the church’s exact playback and caption needs before purchasing.
