How to Make a Seamless Loop for a 24/7 YouTube Music Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To make a seamless loop for a 24/7 YouTube music stream, edit the audio so its ending flows naturally into its beginning, audition the join repeatedly, and only then enable looping in your streaming setup. In Audacity, try a crossfade where the two sections overlap; in OBS, enable Loop on the finished media file. The loop setting repeats the file, but it cannot repair a click, silence gap, volume dip, or awkward musical transition in the edit.

How to make a seamless loop for a 24/7 YouTube music stream

  1. Choose a suitable section. Use audio you have the right to broadcast. Look for a musical phrase, sustained ambience, or other point where the ending can plausibly lead back to the beginning. Remove leading or trailing silence only if listening confirms it improves the transition; do not cut into a note or ambience tail simply to make endpoints match.
  2. Preview the repeat while editing. In Audacity, select the region you intend to repeat and use looped playback to hear its end flow into its start. This helps you evaluate edits; it does not configure the final OBS or YouTube broadcast. See Audacity’s playback guide.
  3. Try a crossfade at the join. For clips on one track, Audacity’s Crossfade Clips effect uses an approximately equal selection from the end of one clip and start of the next, fading between them. For clips on separate tracks, arrange an overlap, select it, and use Crossfade Tracks. Compare the result by ear rather than assuming a particular duration will work for every recording.
  4. Adjust the fade and listen for level changes. A linear crossfade can dip in volume midway. Equal-power fade shapes are designed to reduce that tendency, but may raise peak level. Audacity explains fade and crossfade shapes in its fade and crossfade guide. Listen for a dip or bump, doubled beat, phasey sound, click, sudden change in ambience, or rhythm blurred by an overly long overlap. Revise the edit or overlap if the transition sounds wrong.
  5. Render and test the actual media file. Export or render a finished file, then listen across its end-to-start boundary several times. Check for unexpected silence, clipping, missing audio, or a visible video discontinuity. The appropriate export format and fade duration depend on the source; there is no single setting established for every track.

A crossfade is a tool, not a guarantee: some recordings will sound more natural with a carefully chosen cut than with overlapping audio. Audition the finished file in context before broadcasting.

How to loop the finished file in OBS

  1. In OBS, add the file as a Media Source in the scene you plan to broadcast.
  2. Open the source’s properties and enable Loop. OBS says this restarts the file after playback completes. For a playlist instead, use a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist; VLC must be installed. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
  3. Confirm that the source is audible and visible in the intended scene. Let it pass through the repeat point and check that the broadcast version still sounds right.
  4. In YouTube Live Control Room, get the server URL and stream key, enter them in your encoder, and start the stream from OBS. Confirm the preview in YouTube before relying on the broadcast. Keep the stream key private. YouTube’s encoder setup guide says stopping the encoder feed ends the stream.

The OBS approach repeats a local file, so the computer running OBS and its connection have to remain available for the broadcast. For stream length and archives, YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not establish that a 24/7 stream will produce one single archived video.

Live-stream access

YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before scheduling; platform requirements can change. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.

Copyright and permission to broadcast

YouTube Help states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If YouTube identifies third-party material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also says that even licensed third-party content may require the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Verify that your permission covers the livestream and any archived copy, and follow the rights owner’s allowlisting instructions when applicable. A “copyright-free” label or a purchased track alone does not ensure that a claim will not occur. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Troubleshoot a loop that does not sound seamless

  • A click at the join: Revisit the edit point and audition the file’s boundary. Try a crossfade or adjust its overlap; check that the transition does not cut into an audible note or ambience tail.
  • A volume dip or bump: Compare fade shapes. A linear fade can dip in the middle; an equal-power shape may reduce the perceived dip but can increase peak level. Listen to the render and revise if necessary.
  • A doubled beat or blurred phrase: The overlap may be too long or may join incompatible musical moments. Shorten or reposition it, or choose a different repeat point.
  • A repeat gap or playback stops: Check that you enabled Loop on the OBS Media Source, or Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source. Test the source in the scene before going live.
  • The YouTube broadcast is interrupted: Check YouTube Studio for stream status and warnings. A rights match can interrupt or terminate a live stream; confirm your broadcast permissions and any required Content ID allowlisting.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want a home computer or connection to stay on, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube from the cloud. The setup is: upload your finished video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your edit still determines whether the loop sounds seamless.
