YouTube’s viewer-side playlist Loop control does not loop the creator’s livestream source. Check that the source restarts and its audio and video continue in the software preview before going live.
Why YouTube’s playlist Loop control does not fix a livestream
YouTube lets viewers loop a video or playlist while watching it. That is a watch-page playback setting, not a control for the media being sent by a creator’s encoder. The creator’s encoder sends the video feed to YouTube; if the source finishes and stops sending content, the feed will not restart just because a viewer enabled Loop. YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists describe viewer playback.
Set the podcast source to repeat in your streaming software
- Find the source. Open the software that sends your show to YouTube and locate the podcast episode or media playlist used as the stream’s audio and video source.
- Enable repeat or loop. Turn on the source’s repeat option if it has one. If your setup uses a sequence of separate sources or scenes, check what happens after the last item; a media playlist and a scene sequence may not advance or repeat the same way.
- Verify the restart in preview. Let the source reach the end, then confirm it starts again at the point you intend and that both audio and video continue. YouTube recommends checking the preview before starting the stream: Get started with live streaming.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube. In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key into your encoder’s stream settings. Start the encoder and confirm its feed reaches Live Control Room, then click Go live. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current workflow.
- Keep the feed running. The source must continue sending content for the duration you want the broadcast to remain live. Clicking End Stream and stopping the encoder feed ends the broadcast.
These are general workflow steps, not version-specific menu instructions: the YouTube help pages do not document where repeat controls are located in OBS or other encoder software. Check the current documentation for your chosen software, or verify the behavior in a private or unlisted preview before relying on it unattended.
Check what your playlist and encoder do at the end
Before going live, verify these behaviors in your actual setup. Software can handle a media playlist differently from a sequence of scenes or separate sources.

- Does the source repeat automatically, or does it stop after its final item?
- Does it restart from the beginning, or from a different point?
- Do audio and video restart together and stay in sync?
- Will the encoder and playback source keep running unattended for the full planned duration?
Do not confuse source looping with HLS segments or DVR
You may encounter the term “rolling playlist” in YouTube’s HLS streaming instructions. It refers to transport segments used to deliver a live feed: YouTube specifies no more than five outstanding segments. It is not the podcast’s playlist of episodes and does not make a finished episode repeat. YouTube lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output in its HLS setup instructions.
DVR is also separate. It lets viewers pause and rewind a live stream; it does not replay the creator’s source. YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, according to YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.

Troubleshoot a stream that stops when the playlist ends
- The broadcast stops at the end of an episode: The media source may not be set to repeat. Enable its repeat or loop control, then test through the end of the source in preview.
- The playlist restarts but audio or video does not: Check each source’s repeat behavior and test the transition. If you use separate scenes or sources, verify that the final item’s completion triggers the intended next item or restart.
- The source repeats locally but the YouTube preview freezes or ends: Confirm the encoder is still sending content and that Live Control Room is receiving its feed. YouTube’s encoder workflow depends on the server URL and stream key being configured in the software.
- Viewers can rewind but the show does not restart: DVR is a viewer control, not a source-loop setting. Change the media source behavior in the encoder instead.
