For an audio-first podcast, connect your RSS feed using YouTube Studio’s podcast workflow. YouTube can turn feed episodes into static-image videos and automatically upload new episodes to your channel. If you publish video episodes instead, upload them to a YouTube podcast playlist; YouTube does not document automatic playlist syncing for that manual workflow.
How YouTube podcast playlists and automatic updates work
YouTube treats a podcast as a playlist and its episodes as videos in that playlist. YouTube Help describes this model in Distribute podcasts on YouTube. For an audio-first show, the documented automatic route is RSS feed delivery: YouTube creates videos using your show art and episode audio, then can upload newly added feed episodes to your channel.
RSS delivery publishes to YouTube and YouTube Music; it does not distribute your show to other podcast platforms. Availability is limited by the channel owner’s location, so check YouTube’s current RSS feed delivery available locations before setting up.
Choose the workflow that fits your show
| Workflow | How episodes appear | What updates automatically | Key trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| RSS feed delivery | YouTube makes static-image videos using the show art and episode audio. | New feed episodes can upload to the channel automatically. | Geographically limited; corrections to already published audio require a re-upload. |
| Upload video episodes | You upload finished video episodes to a podcast playlist in YouTube Studio. | No automatic feed-to-YouTube syncing is documented for this workflow. | You control the visuals, but must upload each episode yourself. |
| Convert audio to video | A third-party tool turns audio into a video, such as a static-image video or audiogram. | Depends on the service; confirm its current capabilities rather than assuming it syncs a playlist. | More control over presentation, with a separate tool and workflow to manage. |
YouTube describes the upload and conversion options in Distribute podcasts on YouTube. Some podcast hosting platforms also offer YouTube distribution, but check the features of the provider you use.

Set up automatic uploads from an RSS feed
Before you start
- Confirm RSS delivery is available where the channel owner is located using YouTube’s location list.
- Have access to the podcast’s RSS feed and its verification email account. YouTube may ask you to verify feed ownership.
- Keep the podcast playlist focused on full-length episodes. YouTube says some playlists may not qualify for podcast features, including playlists with content you do not own.
- If prompted for access to advanced features, complete the identity verification YouTube requests.
Connect the feed in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and create a podcast or choose an existing podcast playlist. YouTube’s Create a podcast in YouTube Studio help page covers the podcast creation and playlist options.
- Open the podcast’s RSS settings and choose the option to connect an RSS feed.
- Enter the feed details and complete ownership verification if YouTube sends a verification message to the email address associated with the feed.
- Choose which episodes to deliver and set their visibility. Review the episode list before saving so that the selected episodes and public status match your release plan.
- Save the setup. When you add a new episode to the feed, YouTube can upload it to the channel. YouTube Help says eligible subscribers may be notified of a new episode; back-catalog episodes added through RSS do not trigger subscriber notifications.
For the current steps and available choices, see YouTube’s Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed instructions.
Keep episodes in the right order and handle corrections
Episode order follows dates in the feed
For RSS-uploaded videos, YouTube uses the release date in the feed for ordering when one is present; otherwise it uses the YouTube publish date. YouTube does not verify the RSS release date, so check the feed’s dates if episodes appear out of order.

Audio edits and show details do not mirror automatically
Changing the audio file for an episode already published from RSS does not replace the YouTube video automatically. Use YouTube’s re-upload-from-RSS process to publish a replacement; the previous upload becomes private. Changes to show details in the feed also do not automatically propagate.
Deleting a YouTube video does not remove its feed episode
If the episode remains in the RSS feed, YouTube may upload it again after you delete its video. Remove the episode from the feed to prevent that, or use private visibility if you only want to hide the YouTube upload.

Policy checks for RSS-delivered podcasts
- Podcast content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. Monetized podcasts are also subject to YouTube’s monetization policies.
- YouTube’s RSS guidance says RSS-uploaded podcast content cannot contain advertisements. Treat this as a rule for RSS delivery rather than a blanket claim about every podcast workflow. For branded content, host-read promotions, sponsorships, or endorsements, follow YouTube’s applicable disclosure and policy requirements.
- Only deliver episodes and material you have the rights to publish. YouTube’s podcast playlist guidance notes that content you do not own may not qualify for podcast features.
Review YouTube’s current guidance on RSS delivery and podcast distribution when planning monetization or promotional content.
