Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For dependable captions on an always-on YouTube story stream, send captions to YouTube either embedded in the video as EIA-608/CEA-708 or through a separate caption feed over HTTP. YouTube’s automatic live captions may be an easier fallback for eligible English-language streams, but they require normal latency and should not be treated as a guaranteed or fully accurate transcript. Plan captions for the replay separately: live automatic captions do not carry over to the finished video.
Choose a live-caption method
YouTube’s guidance is direct: “To add captions to your live stream, you need to send captions to YouTube.” The right method depends on the language, accuracy needs, and how your stream is operated. Each stream entry point can have one caption feed.
| Method | What it involves | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic live captions | Enable Automatic captions in Live Control Room and select the video language. | English only, available to eligible channels as rollout continues, and requires normal latency. |
| Embedded EIA-608/CEA-708 | Choose Embedded 608/708 in stream setup and configure the encoder to send captions within the video stream. | YouTube currently supports one caption track for this workflow. |
| Separate HTTP caption feed | Copy the signed Captions Ingestion URL from stream setup into supported caption software or a caption provider that sends captions by HTTP POST. | Requires a separate feed connection; YouTube allows one caption feed per stream entry point. |
For external software, YouTube names Total Eclipse, Case CATalyst, CaptionMaker, and StreamText.Net as examples. Verify that a vendor’s current product and version support the workflow before choosing it. YouTube recommends a 30- or 60-second broadcast delay for its documented captioned-event workflow. See YouTube’s live caption requirements.
Set up automatic captions if the option is available
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and configure the stream.
- Turn on closed captions, select Automatic captions, and choose the video language. The current YouTube help guidance says live automatic captions are available in English only.
- Use normal latency for the stream. Automatic live captions require it; ultra-low latency is not a compatible workaround.
- Check captions in the live player using representative speech before relying on them. Watch during the broadcast for missed or misleading text.
The option may not appear for every channel while eligibility and rollout vary. Audio quality, overlapping speakers, and multilingual speech can also make recognition less reliable. YouTube warns that automatic speech recognition may misrepresent speech and encourages creators to review automatically generated captions. If accuracy, non-English speech, or dependable coverage matters, use a caption feed or embedded captions instead. Details: YouTube’s automatic captioning guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Send captions with an encoder or caption software
Embed captions in the outgoing video
- In stream setup, enable closed captions and select Embedded 608/708.
- Configure the encoder to provide EIA-608 or CEA-708 captions in its outgoing video stream.
- Test the resulting captions in YouTube’s live player. Do not assume that enabling the option alone creates captions; the encoder must actually send them.
Use a separate HTTP caption feed
- Enable closed captions in the stream setup and select the separate caption-feed option.
- Copy the signed Captions Ingestion URL and enter it in the captioning software or provider.
- Confirm the provider is sending captions by HTTP POST and that they appear in the live player.
- Keep the system clock accurate, as YouTube recommends for best results. For YouTube’s documented captioned-event workflow, use its recommended 30- or 60-second broadcast delay.
Both routes need an actual caption source: the encoder for embedded captions, or caption software/provider for HTTP delivery. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation also states that ultra-low latency does not support closed captions. YouTube’s latency guidance explains the trade-off: lower latency reduces read-ahead buffering and increases the likelihood of buffering. For a non-interactive story stream, normal latency is generally the more suitable choice when captions are required.
Make the replay accessible too
Do not assume the captions shown during the broadcast will be the captions on the replay. Live automatic captions disappear when the stream ends; YouTube generates a separate set of automatic captions for the VOD, and they may differ from the live captions.

- After the stream ends, open the recording in YouTube Studio and check its captions independently.
- If needed, add captions by uploading a timed caption file, auto-syncing a transcript, or typing captions manually through YouTube’s subtitle workflow.
- Review names, story-specific terms, and timing, and include meaningful non-speech audio—YouTube gives applause and thunder as examples—where it matters to understanding.
See YouTube’s instructions for adding subtitles and captions.
Test an always-on workflow and watch for breaks
A caption setup that works at initial startup is not automatically proven through a long-running stream. YouTube’s documentation does not guarantee that caption feeds resume seamlessly after a stream restart, encoder reconnect, loop transition, or stream-entry-point change. Test those events with the actual encoder and caption provider before relying on uninterrupted coverage.

- Before launch: test representative speech and audio, confirm captions appear in the live player, and check stream health. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health during a broadcast.
- After a reconnect or restart: check both the video and caption feed again; a successful video reconnect does not establish that captions resumed.
- After a scheduled rotation, content change, or provider handoff: verify captions at the new segment and confirm the active stream entry point is still using the intended caption configuration.
- Before publishing or monetizing a story stream: make sure you have the necessary rights to the video, audio, and captions. Captions do not change whether content is authorized for use.
