To make several videos play again automatically in OBS, add them to a VLC Video Source and leave Loop Playlist enabled. OBS documents that this setting restarts the source after it runs out of media files; it is on by default. You’ll need VLC installed, with the same 32- or 64-bit architecture as OBS.
Set up a playlist that repeats
- Install VLC. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video Source. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- Add the source. In the OBS scene you want to use, select the add-source button and choose VLC Video Source.
- Add your files. Open the source’s properties and add the local media files to its playlist.
- Enable looping. Make sure Loop Playlist is checked. OBS defines this setting as restarting the source when it has run out of media files, and documents it as on by default. OBS Media Sources documentation
- Choose whether to shuffle. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for the listed order, or turn it on if you want randomized playback. OBS documents shuffle as off by default.
- Keep the source visible. With the default visibility behavior, OBS stops playback when the source is not visible and restarts it when visible. Keep it visible in the active scene if you want playback to continue under that default behavior. Visibility is separate from playlist looping.
Use the right OBS source for one file or many

The Media Source’s Loop option repeats a single file; for a multi-file playlist, use VLC Video Source. OBS Media Sources documentation
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Looping controls what the OBS source plays. It does not configure the YouTube destination or start the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder, then start sending output from it. In OBS, configure the stream destination and key separately from the VLC playlist settings. YouTube: Go live with an encoder
What looping does—and does not—keep running
Loop Playlist repeats the media list when it ends. It does not guarantee that OBS, your computer, internet connection, encoder output, or YouTube will stay online continuously. A playlist can be looping correctly while the stream itself is interrupted.

For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube says the broadcast may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup if preserving the broadcast matters. Viewer DVR controls may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours, so don’t promise viewers they can rewind the full duration of an uninterrupted 24/7 stream. Troubleshoot a playlist that will not restart or play
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, matching its architecture to OBS. The documented requirement is 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- The playlist ends instead of repeating: Open the VLC Video Source properties and check Loop Playlist.
- A file does not appear in the playlist: Reopen the source properties and confirm the intended media files are in its playlist.
- Playback stops when you switch scenes or hide the source: Check the source’s visibility behavior. The documented default is to stop when not visible and restart when visible; keep the source visible if you want it to play under that default.
- Videos play in an unexpected order: Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. It is off by default.
- The video repeats, but YouTube is offline: Playlist looping only restarts media playback. Check whether OBS is still sending output and whether its YouTube destination and stream key are configured correctly.
