These are separate revenue routes with different eligibility rules—not a single “monetize” switch—and none guarantees a particular amount per stream.
Choose the revenue routes that fit your live content
| Route | How it can earn | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium | Ads may run on monetized live streams; qualifying Premium viewing can also generate revenue. | Higher YPP eligibility tier, acceptance of the Watch Page Monetization Module, and actual ad serving or qualifying Premium viewing. |
| Super Chat and Super Stickers | Viewers pay to highlight a live-chat message or send a paid animated image. | YPP and applicable age, location, policy, module, and feature requirements; viewers must choose to purchase. |
| Channel memberships | Members pay on a recurring basis for creator-defined perks. | YPP and applicable age, location, policy, module, and feature requirements; viewers must join. |
| YouTube Shopping | Eligible creators may promote their own products or products from other brands, including through the Shopping affiliate program where available. | Feature and location eligibility, and current requirements in YouTube Studio. |
| Brand partnerships | A sponsor may pay under a negotiated agreement to support or feature a stream. | Agree on deliverables, payment, usage rights, disclosure, and other terms with the partner; availability is not automatic. |
There is no universal best route. Ads depend on eligible viewing and ad delivery; fan funding depends on viewer participation; Shopping depends on eligibility and purchases; and sponsorship income depends on an agreement.
Meet YouTube’s YPP thresholds
YouTube’s help page reviewed October 3, 2026 lists two relevant tiers. Meeting a subscriber and activity threshold does not automatically activate every feature: channel status, policy compliance, location, and feature-specific requirements still matter.
| Listed threshold | What the tier can unlock |
|---|---|
| 500 subscribers, at least 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. | Access to some monetization features, subject to each feature’s requirements. This lower threshold is not the listed threshold for Watch Page ad revenue. |
| 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. | The higher listed tier associated with Watch Page ads and expanded monetization features, subject to YouTube’s terms and feature requirements. |
Check YouTube Studio’s Earn area and the current official eligibility rules for your channel and country before planning around a feature. YouTube indicates that YPP terms updates begin February 1, 2027; the reviewed information does not establish what changes will apply beyond that date, so verify the rules again when they take effect.

Enable ads and understand what the revenue shares mean
Accept the right module
For ad and YouTube Premium revenue from long-form or live-stream content viewed on the Watch Page or in an embedded YouTube player, YouTube requires acceptance of the Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube’s published partner earnings terms list a 55% share of net Watch Page ad revenue under that module. That figure applies to this revenue category; it is not a percentage of every stream-related income source or a forecast of take-home earnings.
Set ad options, but do not assume every slot fills
When stream monetization is enabled, YouTube automatically enables pre-roll and display ads. Mid-roll ads can be inserted automatically or manually. YouTube cautions that “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” An enabled slot therefore does not guarantee an impression or payment, and viewers may have different ad experiences.

Do not turn a revenue share into an earnings estimate
YouTube’s published 55% Watch Page ad share is calculated from net ad revenue under the module. YouTube does not provide a universal amount a creator earns per live stream in the reviewed guidance. Actual results depend on factors including eligible viewing, whether ads serve, viewer location and behavior, Premium viewing, and the audience’s use of paid features. Do not infer a fixed per-viewer, per-hour, or per-stream payout from the revenue-share percentage.
Turn on fan funding and explain the value to viewers
Super Chat and Super Stickers
Super Chat lets a viewer pay to make a live-chat message stand out; Super Stickers are paid animated images in chat. To use fan-funding features, creators must be in YPP, satisfy applicable age and location requirements, accept the Commerce Product Module or a qualifying prior addendum, comply with the relevant policies, and enable the individual feature.

Channel memberships
Memberships are recurring viewer payments exchanged for creator-defined perks. Make the benefits clear and sustainable—such as member-only community access or other eligible perks—and explain how viewers can join without implying that membership is required to watch the stream.
Interpret the published share correctly
YouTube lists a 70% share of net revenue for memberships and fan-funding features under the Commerce Product Module. This is a module-specific net-revenue share, not 70% of gross viewer spend and not a promise of earnings after taxes or other costs. Feature access and availability depend on location, channel status, the applicable agreement, and individual requirements.

Check Shopping eligibility before promoting products
Eligible creators may use YouTube Shopping to promote their own products or products from other brands, including the YouTube Shopping affiliate program where available. Do not assume product tagging or affiliate access is available to every channel or in every country. Check the Earn or Shopping area in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s current requirements for your location. Before promoting a product, make the relationship and any material terms clear to viewers.
Approach sponsorships as negotiated work
A brand partnership can provide income alongside YouTube’s platform features, but it is an agreement with a sponsor, not a built-in YouTube payout. Before accepting, agree in writing on the stream or segment deliverables, payment timing, any product or usage rights, exclusivity, cancellation terms, and required disclosures. Review the sponsor and its terms rather than assuming a particular marketplace or commission program is approved or appropriate.

Make a practical monetization plan for a live channel
- Check eligibility first. In YouTube Studio, review Earn for YPP progress and the features actually available to your channel and location.
- Enable only the routes you qualify for. Accept the relevant Watch Page or Commerce Product terms, then turn on each eligible feature separately.
- Design the stream around viewer value. For fan funding, tell viewers what memberships offer and how paid chat works. For Shopping, tag or discuss only eligible products you can represent accurately.
- Plan ad breaks around the content. Decide whether automatic or manual mid-rolls suit your format, while recognizing that a configured slot may not serve an ad.
- Track each revenue source separately. Compare actual ad, Premium, fan-funding, Shopping, and sponsorship results in their relevant reporting or records; do not use one stream’s result as a guaranteed forecast.
- Keep the stream and the rights compliant. Use content you have the rights to broadcast, follow YouTube’s live-stream and channel monetization policies, and disclose commercial relationships as required.
- Account for taxes and costs. YouTube notes that earnings may have tax implications. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, so check local rules or consult a qualified tax professional.
Keep an always-on stream available without confusing uptime with income
If your channel format uses uploaded recordings in a 24/7 YouTube live stream, a cloud service can keep the video running without leaving a home computer on. Continuous availability may support a channel’s format, but it does not guarantee monetization eligibility, ad delivery, views, or revenue. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
