To make OBS try reconnecting automatically, open OBS → Settings → Advanced → Network and enable Automatic Reconnect. Set a retry delay and maximum retry count. This makes OBS retry its connection to YouTube’s ingest server; it does not guarantee that YouTube will keep a broadcast live or resume every scheduled broadcast without further action.
Enable OBS automatic reconnect
- In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced → Network.
- Turn on Automatic Reconnect.
- Choose the retry delay and maximum number of retries. OBS exposes both controls, but the official documentation does not establish one best setting for every stream. OBS’s output API says the retry wait doubles on each attempt to avoid overloading services, so later retries can be farther apart than the initial delay. OBS Studio Overview Guide · OBS Output API Reference
Reconnect is a retry mechanism, not a recovery-time guarantee. The official documentation does not specify how long every YouTube broadcast remains recoverable after an encoder disconnect.
Check YouTube’s broadcast settings separately
OBS reconnect and YouTube’s broadcast lifecycle are separate control layers. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live / Live Control Room and inspect the selected stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings. YouTube says that when these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from the encoder. Reusing stream settings also copies these selections. Manage live stream settings
For a scheduled broadcast, do not assume that an OBS retry completes the whole YouTube workflow. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room and then click Go live. Validate this process for your scheduled stream. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test the full setup before relying on it
- Run an unlisted or otherwise appropriate test stream.
- Check that the preview appears in Live Control Room and verify how the broadcast behaves with the selected auto-start and auto-stop settings.
- Test the reconnect behavior in conditions appropriate to your setup, then confirm what happens in both OBS and Live Control Room.
- Monitor stream health. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring the stream; its encoder guidance also lists bitrate ranges by resolution, frame rate, and codec, rather than one universal bitrate. Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
Troubleshoot repeated disconnects
Automatic reconnect can retry after an interruption, but it cannot repair a persistently unstable connection. OBS identifies intermittent disconnects and dropped frames as signs of a network problem between the computer and the remote ingest server. OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting
- OBS retries but keeps disconnecting: Check the network connection and bitrate. OBS suggests trying another server or service as a diagnostic and checking network configuration.
- Disconnects continue despite a stable-looking connection: Check whether security software, VPN software, or bundled network software could be interfering; OBS lists these among possible factors.
- Stream health is poor: Choose a stream quality appropriate to the available connection and consult YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you use. YouTube encoder settings
- YouTube does not resume the broadcast as expected: Check the selected stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings and, for a scheduled stream, follow the preview and Go live workflow in Live Control Room.
YouTube’s live-streaming tips describe unplugging Ethernet as a failover test, but that is a diagnostic—not a guarantee that changing network connections will solve a particular disconnection. YouTube live streaming tips
