To play prerecorded worship videos in a specific order during a YouTube Live event, create a playlist in OBS Studio using its VLC Video source, turn off shuffle, and set looping to match your service plan. Then schedule a YouTube event, connect OBS with that event’s stream URL and key, check the preview, and start the event in Live Control Room. Scheduling alone does not sequence local video files.
Prepare the worship-video sequence
Decide the rundown before configuring the stream. For example, you might arrange a title card, welcome, worship videos, announcements, sermon, and closing in that order. This is a planning example, not a required church format.
Put the media files in the intended sequence and check each one before the service: confirm that its picture and audio are correct and that the file is the version you mean to show. There is no single file format or encoding preset established here for every church computer and network, so rehearse with the actual files and equipment you plan to use.
Build an ordered playlist in OBS
Add the VLC Video source
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the files in the order they should play.
- Check Shuffle Playlist and make sure it is off. OBS documents shuffle as off by default; enabling it randomizes the list rather than preserving the service order.
- Check Loop Playlist. OBS documents looping as on by default, so the playlist restarts after its last item. Turn it off for a one-pass service; leave it on only if you intend the sequence to repeat.
Use the OBS preview to check the picture and use its audio meters to confirm that sound is reaching the scene. A playlist in an encoder is the documented way to sequence local prerecorded files for this workflow; do not assume that scheduling a YouTube event will play files from your computer for you.

Schedule the YouTube Live event and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and use the Manage tab to schedule a stream. A scheduled event can appear as upcoming, be shared ahead of time, and offer viewers a reminder option.
- Open the scheduled event’s stream settings and copy its stream URL and stream key into the encoder settings in OBS. Use the values for that event and keep the key confidential: YouTube describes it as functioning like a password and address for the feed. Do not show it in screenshots or public volunteer instructions.
- Start sending the OBS feed and wait until the event preview appears in Live Control Room.
- When the preview and planned content are ready, use the current Go live control in Live Control Room to start the event. YouTube’s interface can change, so follow the labels shown in Studio at the time.
The encoder stream URL and key connect OBS to YouTube; scheduling creates the event viewers can find. Both parts are needed for this workflow.
Rehearse, monitor, and end the stream
OBS strongly recommends a short test before the first stream. Run one with the church’s actual computer, network, playlist, and channel rather than assuming that settings alone guarantee playback. Confirm the sequence, audio, preview, and intended loop behavior; make sure a volunteer knows how to monitor the event and end it.

To finish, end the event in Live Control Room and stop sending the encoder feed. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; confirm the current event and channel settings if an archive is important to your church’s workflow.
Clear rights for every video and audio track
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it identifies a match, it may show a placeholder image and warn the creator to stop using the material; if the material remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream.

Confirm permissions for each video and audio element, including recordings, backing tracks, lyrics, and material supplied by another ministry or producer. If the church has licensed third-party content, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add the church channel to the owner’s Content ID allowlist. Without that allowlisting, a live stream may still be interrupted even when the church has a license or has restricted territories to places where it owns the necessary rights. These approaches solve different operational problems. OBS is a documented playlist option when the church can run and monitor a local encoder. A dedicated appliance may suit a church seeking hardware-based operation; a cloud service may suit recurring or unattended playback. Confirm a provider’s current features and terms directly before relying on them.
