For one prerecorded demo clip, add it to OBS as a Media Source and enable Loop. For several clips, use a VLC Video playlist with Loop Playlist. To transition between OBS scenes, choose a transition such as Fade and set its duration. These controls handle playback and scene changes; they cannot make a mismatched clip ending and beginning seamless, so check the loop point itself before streaming.
Choose how your demo clips should play
Use a Media Source when one local video should repeat. Use VLC Video when you want OBS to cycle through an ordered playlist. OBS documents both looping options in its Media Sources guide.
| Playback setup | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Media Source with Loop enabled | One prerecorded clip repeating | The clip’s ending-to-beginning picture and audio may still have a visible or audible jump. |
| VLC Video with Loop Playlist enabled | Several clips playing in sequence and repeating | VLC must be installed; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Playback can stop when the source is hidden, so test your scene-visibility pattern. |
These are local prerecorded-video sources, not camera inputs. OBS treats webcams and capture cards as separate source types; a capture card is only relevant if your demo also includes an external video device. See the OBS Sources Guide.
Set up a single looping demo in OBS
- Create or select a scene. In OBS Studio, use a scene for each distinct demo segment or presentation state you need. Scenes are compositions of sources.
- Add the clip. In the Sources panel, select +, choose Media Source, name it, then select the local video file in its properties. OBS lists common supported formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM.
- Enable repeat playback. In the Media Source properties, check Loop, then confirm the source. The clip restarts when playback completes.
- Check the composition. Confirm the clip is visible in the intended scene, sized and positioned correctly, and that any other sources—such as a logo or title—appear as intended.
- Preview the actual restart. Let the clip play through its end and into the next start in OBS preview or a recording. A loop setting restarts playback; it does not guarantee that the final frame, first frame, or audio will join smoothly.
Build a repeating playlist of demo clips
- Install VLC with matching bitness. VLC Video requires VLC to be installed. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC.
- Add the playlist source. In the Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video. Add the files in the order you want them to play.
- Enable playlist repetition. Turn on Loop Playlist in the source properties and apply the changes.
- Test source visibility. OBS notes that VLC playback can stop when the source is hidden. If you switch scenes or toggle visibility, test that exact sequence and confirm playback resumes as you expect.
- Watch the playlist boundary. Review transitions between each pair of clips and from the last clip back to the first. Playlist repetition does not blend footage or repair mismatched endpoints.
Make scene changes feel intentional
OBS provides built-in Cut and Fade transitions, and lets you set a transition duration. A Cut changes immediately; a Fade blends between the outgoing and incoming scenes over the selected duration. Choose based on the footage and the pace of the demo—there is no universally best duration.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- In the Scene Transitions area, select the transition you want, such as Fade.
- Set its duration, then preview scene changes with the actual demo footage and layout.
- If you want to prepare the next scene while the current one remains on air, enable Studio Mode. Prepare the edit scene, then transition it live when ready.
A scene transition applies when you switch scenes; it does not automatically crossfade the end and beginning of a looping file within the same Media Source. Treat those as separate problems: set the scene transition for scene changes, and edit or select compatible endpoints for file loops. OBS describes these features in its Studio Overview Guide and Media Sources guide.
Prepare the loop point and audio
For a clean repeat, choose or edit footage whose final image and first image make sense together. Listen to the end-to-start audio junction as well: a sudden change in room tone, music, or narration can make an otherwise acceptable visual loop feel abrupt. If the material does not join naturally, consider structuring the sequence so it returns through a deliberate title card or other transition segment rather than relying on the playback restart to hide the edit.

Set up and test the YouTube stream
- Confirm live-stream eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See Get started with live streaming.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to create or schedule a stream and connect OBS using the stream key. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube says it tells the encoder where to send the feed, so do not share it publicly.
- Choose stream settings for your connection. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with no more than four seconds. Select resolution, frame rate, and bitrate from YouTube’s published settings for the chosen resolution and your reliable upload capacity; do not assume one bitrate fits every setup. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Run a representative test. Use the actual demo audio and motion rather than a static screen. YouTube recommends testing before an event; preview in Live Control Room, check the loop boundary, scene transitions, audio, and stream health, then monitor the stream during broadcast. See YouTube live streaming tips and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Troubleshooting common loop and transition problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The single clip stops after one play | Loop is not enabled on the Media Source. | Open the source properties, enable Loop, apply, and preview a full playback. |
| The playlist does not repeat | Loop Playlist is off, or the VLC source setup is incomplete. | Check the playlist source properties and confirm VLC is installed with the same bitness as OBS. |
| The playlist stops after changing scenes | The VLC Video source may stop playback while hidden. | Test the visibility behavior in your scene pattern and keep the source visible if continuous playback is needed. |
| A jump appears at the end of a clip | The last and first frames or audio do not match. | Inspect the media boundary and choose or edit footage with compatible endpoints; a loop control only restarts playback. |
| The scene change feels too abrupt or too slow | The selected transition or duration does not suit the footage. | Preview Cut and Fade with the real scene layout and adjust duration until the change supports the demo’s pacing. |
| YouTube reports unstable stream health | The chosen bitrate, resolution, or frame rate may exceed stable upload capacity, or the connection may fluctuate. | Check Live Control Room stream health; use YouTube’s resolution-specific encoder settings and leave upload headroom rather than targeting the connection’s peak rate. |
| The stream cannot be started | The channel may not meet YouTube’s live-stream eligibility requirements, or encoder setup may be incomplete. | Check channel verification and restrictions, then review YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream-key connection. |
