1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor the most reliable seamless transitions, crossfade the tracks in an audio editor, render them as one continuous audio file, then play that file in OBS as a looping Media Source. OBS can loop a supported audio file, but its documentation does not establish that a standard VLC playlist automatically crossfades between separate tracks.
Choose how to play the music
| Method | Transitions | Playlist flexibility | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| One pre-crossfaded file in OBS Media Source | Crossfades are rendered into the audio before streaming. | Tracks become one continuous file; change the sequence or fades by editing and rendering again. | OBS Media Source supports MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV audio, and its Loop property restarts playback when the file ends. OBS Media Sources |
| Separate files in an OBS VLC Video Source | OBS documents playlist playback, but not automatic crossfading between playlist entries. | Keep tracks separate; OBS offers playlist looping and shuffle selection. | VLC must be installed for the VLC Video Source to appear. Leave shuffle off to preserve a deliberate order. OBS Media Sources |
If seamless transitions are the goal, use the single rendered file unless you have independently verified another crossfade method. A playlist that advances from file to file is not, by itself, proof of an overlap or gap-free transition.
Prepare and crossfade a continuous audio file
Arrange the sequence
In an audio editor, put the tracks in the order you want and create an overlap at each transition. Adjust the fade-in and fade-out by listening to the actual material: sustained ambient textures may blend differently from tracks with a clear attack or changing volume. The sources do not establish a universally ideal crossfade duration, so do not treat one fixed number as a rule.
Render and check the result
- Render or export the playlist as one continuous file in a format OBS Media Source supports: MP3, AAC, OGG, or WAV.
- Listen through every transition in the rendered file, not only in the editor timeline. Check for silence, abrupt level changes, clicks, or an overlap that makes the sound too loud.
- Listen to the file’s ending followed by its beginning. If the loop point itself needs to be seamless, edit and render that boundary too; looping alone restarts the file, it does not create a crossfade between its end and beginning.
Set up looping in OBS
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene that will carry the audio and select the rendered file.
- Enable the source’s Loop property so OBS restarts playback when the file finishes. OBS documents this behavior for Media Source. OBS Media Sources
- Check that the source is audible in the OBS audio mixer and in YouTube’s stream preview before broadcasting.
- Test the full file, including its loop point. If you switch scenes during the stream, verify that the source continues as intended rather than restarting or stopping.
Using separate files in a VLC playlist
If you want to keep tracks separate, add an OBS VLC Video Source, install VLC so that source is available, and load the playlist. OBS documents playlist looping and a shuffle option; turn shuffle off when the order matters. The OBS documentation does not say that separate playlist entries automatically crossfade, so do not rely on a basic playlist for seamless transitions. OBS Media Sources

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the source’s visibility behavior before using it across scenes. OBS lists stopping when not visible and restarting when visible as the VLC source’s default behavior. If you use scene changes, test playback through the same changes you expect to make live.
Connect OBS to YouTube and test before going live
- Enable live streaming for your YouTube channel. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube encoder setup
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select a stream. Copy its server URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder settings in OBS. Keep the stream key private.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check YouTube’s preview before you start or announce the live broadcast.
- Run a complete playlist test: listen for the intended transitions, confirm the source does not stop or restart unexpectedly, and check the loop point if the file will repeat.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Make sure your music permissions cover both the live transmission and any resulting replay. YouTube encoder setup

Music rights and Content ID interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder; if the identified content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also advises creators who have licensed third-party material to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist, because a licensed stream may still be interrupted without that step. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams
- Confirm that your permission covers live streaming, the territories where your stream is available, and archiving or replay.
- If the rights owner uses Content ID, ask whether your channel can be allowlisted before you go live.
- Owning or buying an audio file does not, by itself, establish permission to retransmit it.
