To move a nonstop prerecorded-video stream from Restream to Gyre, set up a new Gyre broadcast for the correct YouTube channel, verify that it is live and playing, and only then end the Restream broadcast. The documented workflows do not describe a one-click transfer of an active Restream session or its YouTube live event into Gyre, so plan for a possible interruption and do not assume the original event URL or archive will carry over.
What changes when you switch services
This guide is for a continuous YouTube stream made from prerecorded videos, not a camera broadcast. Restream can relay a stream to YouTube and also offers prerecorded-video streaming; Gyre’s workflow centers on uploading prerecorded files, arranging a playlist, connecting YouTube, and starting a continuous stream from its servers. These are different workflows, not a transfer of a running session. Restream’s prerecorded-video feature and Gyre’s product page describe those respective capabilities.
Restream documents ways to stream to YouTube and to an existing YouTube event. Gyre documents creating a broadcast through channel authorization or a stream key. The available instructions do not establish that Gyre can take over Restream’s active connection or preserve its event. Treat the Gyre stream as a replacement broadcast that you configure and test independently. Restream’s existing-event guide and Gyre’s September 2026 update explain the separate workflows.
Before you start: check the channel and the cutover
Confirm channel access and live-stream eligibility
Restream’s YouTube integration instructions say the connected account must own the channel; manager or editor access is not enough for that integration. Gyre’s API setup asks the channel owner to authorize access. If you use manual stream-key entry instead, make sure the key belongs to the intended YouTube channel. If the channel has never streamed, YouTube live activation may require phone verification and a 24-hour wait, according to Restream’s guide dated July 9, 2026. Check eligibility before scheduling a changeover. Restream’s YouTube setup guide

Record what viewers currently see
Before changing anything, note the current stream’s YouTube channel, event URL, title, description, thumbnail, privacy setting, playlist order, and whether it is scheduled or already live. Record any destinations besides YouTube that Restream is serving; a YouTube-only replacement will not automatically reproduce them. Also note whether Restream connects through its YouTube integration or custom RTMP. Restream says its YouTube API integration is available to all users, while a custom RTMP destination requires a paid plan. Restream’s existing-event guide
Choose a tolerable interruption window
Do not stop Restream just because Gyre has accepted an upload or shows a configured broadcast. Keep the old stream available until the replacement is visibly live on the intended YouTube channel and its audio and video are correct. Because the documented instructions do not guarantee a seamless handoff, test the channel’s own event arrangement and decide how viewers will find the new event if its URL differs.

Move the stream to Gyre
- Prepare the original video files. Upload the source recordings you have rights to use, preferably the original masters rather than copies downloaded from YouTube. Gyre describes file upload, video conversion, storage, and playlist setup in its prerecorded-video guide.
- Build and check the playlist. Arrange the videos in the intended order and review the playlist for missing files, unwanted gaps, or content that should not repeat. Confirm the planned loop matches the channel’s purpose.
- Connect the right YouTube channel. In Gyre, use the YouTube authorization flow with the channel owner’s account, then confirm the selected channel. Gyre’s current API workflow can use an existing stream key or generate a new one; manual stream-key entry is also an option. If the Google account manages several channels, take particular care to authorize the intended one. Gyre’s API update
- Configure the new broadcast. Set the title, description, tags, thumbnail, privacy, playlist, and schedule as needed. Review any YouTube Studio monetization settings used by the channel: Gyre says third-party-created streams depend on the channel’s monetization defaults, which is not a guarantee that a particular stream qualifies for monetization. Check the event details before launch.
- Start Gyre and verify playback. Check YouTube Studio and the viewer-facing YouTube page. Confirm the correct channel and event are live, the intended video is playing, audio and video are acceptable, and the title and privacy are right.
- End Restream deliberately. Once verification is complete, stop the old broadcast so you do not leave an unintended duplicate public stream running. If the replacement has a different event URL, direct viewers to the new event using your channel’s usual communication methods.
- Check the archive and ongoing operation. After the change, check which broadcast YouTube saved and whether it is available as an archive. Keep a monitoring and restart plan appropriate to the service and your channel.
Prevent avoidable problems with long-running streams
One live broadcast does not guarantee one complete archive
Restream’s duration guidance says YouTube has no general stream-duration limit, but YouTube archives streams only when they are shorter than 12 hours. That means a nonstop stream may not produce one complete YouTube archive, regardless of the service sending it. If keeping a full recording matters, plan a separate recording or archive workflow rather than relying on a single continuous YouTube VOD. Restream’s duration guidance
Plan for Restream’s long-session restart guidance
Restream says its server may undergo maintenance and restart when a stream runs continuously for more than 24 hours, and suggests restarting every 24 hours. This is Restream’s operational guidance, not a promise that every stream will restart at exactly that interval. Factor it into your cutover plan if you have been using Restream for extended sessions. Check copyright and reused-content considerations
Only stream recordings and music you have the rights or permissions to use. A successful connection or repeated playlist does not establish that a video complies with YouTube’s copyright rules or qualifies for monetization. Review YouTube Studio notices and the applicable policies for your channel before and after the switch; changing streaming providers does not resolve rights issues.
Compare the practical trade-offs before committing
Choose based on how you operate the channel, not on an assumption that one service can inherit the other’s live session.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot the cutover
- Gyre cannot connect to the channel: confirm the Google account belongs to the channel owner for authorization, or recheck that the manually entered stream key is for the intended channel. If the account manages multiple channels, verify the selected channel rather than assuming the primary one was chosen.
- YouTube does not show the new broadcast as live: confirm Gyre has started the broadcast and that the configured YouTube event and privacy setting are correct. If the channel has not previously streamed, check whether YouTube’s first-time live activation and verification process is complete.
- The stream is live but shows the wrong content: inspect the Gyre playlist order and confirm the uploaded files are the ones intended for the replacement broadcast before stopping Restream.
- Viewers cannot find the replacement: compare the new event URL with the old one. Do not assume the URL remains the same; share the replacement event through the channel’s normal audience channels.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: check the stream duration and YouTube archive status. Restream’s guidance says only streams shorter than 12 hours are archived by YouTube; a nonstop broadcast can exceed that threshold.
- Two public streams are running: after confirming the new event, stop the old Restream stream deliberately and recheck the channel’s live surface to ensure the intended broadcast remains.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is simply to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It runs without a computer or home connection staying on; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly price is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
