To move a prerecorded YouTube loop off OBS, upload the video or playlist to a cloud streaming service, connect the destination YouTube channel, configure the broadcast, and schedule it. The provider then plays and sends the video from its own infrastructure, so your computer no longer has to run OBS for that stream. If you want to keep OBS as the sender, the workflow is different: OBS still needs to stay online and stream to YouTube using its server URL and stream key.
Choose which workflow fits your stream
| Workflow | What sends the video to YouTube | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| OBS encoder workflow | OBS sends its video feed to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. | A live production assembled in OBS, including camera inputs or real-time scenes. |
| Hosted prerecorded workflow | A cloud service plays uploaded video or a playlist and sends the broadcast. | A pre-rendered video loop or playlist that should continue without your computer. |
Moving a prerecorded loop does not automatically move an entire OBS production. If your OBS scene depends on live cameras, interactive elements, or overlays that change in real time, confirm that the replacement service can reproduce them; the documented hosted workflow below is for prerecorded video.
Prepare the channel and content before switching
- Check live-stream eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the planned handoff. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- Confirm rights and policy compliance. Make sure you have the rights to broadcast every video and audio track in the loop. YouTube says live streams must comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube: Stream using an encoder
- Save the broadcast details. Note the current title, description, visibility, thumbnail, and intended start time so you can configure the hosted broadcast consistently.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it as a credential: someone with the key may be able to send a feed to your encoder endpoint. Do not include it in screenshots, documentation, or public chat. YouTube uses the key as part of its encoder connection setup. YouTube: Stream using an encoder
- Plan a deliberate handoff. Prepare and check the cloud broadcast and its YouTube destination before ending the old OBS feed. This is a practical sequence, not a guarantee of a zero-interruption switchover; do not assume two senders can take over seamlessly.
Keep OBS as the YouTube encoder
This is not a cloud migration: OBS remains the sender and must keep running for the feed to continue. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to create a stream. For a planned event, use Manage → Schedule Stream.
- In OBS streaming settings, choose YouTube if it is offered. Otherwise, enter the YouTube stream URL as the server and paste the stream key into the key field.
- Start streaming in OBS. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then select Go live when you are ready.
- To end the encoder stream, stop sending from OBS. For a scheduled broadcast, YouTube also describes ending it in Live Control Room.
Use this path if you need OBS to combine live inputs or produce scenes in real time. It does not remove the need to keep the computer and OBS online.

Move a prerecorded loop to a cloud service
One documented hosted workflow
OneStream Live’s help instructions describe a YouTube 24/7 workflow for prerecorded video: create a 24-hour stream, add videos from your device, its library, or cloud storage such as Google Drive or Dropbox, select the YouTube channel, enter stream details, set a start time and duration, and schedule the broadcast. Its help page says this 24/7 feature is YouTube-only, requires Enterprise, and allows a maximum duration of 30 days. The page was last updated September 3, 2026; confirm current plan terms and limits with the provider before choosing it. OneStream Live: How to live stream pre-recorded videos 24/7
Switch without assuming a seamless transfer
- Check that the replacement service supports your actual input: an uploaded video or playlist for prerecorded playback, or an encoder feed if you still need OBS to send a live production.
- Upload or select the media, connect the correct YouTube channel, and configure the broadcast details and schedule in the provider’s dashboard.
- Review the destination channel and scheduled event. Keep the stream key out of public materials and only enter credentials through the provider’s intended connection flow.
- When the hosted broadcast is ready to start, end the old OBS feed as part of the handoff. Monitor the YouTube destination and provider status rather than presuming uninterrupted transfer.
Compare the details that affect a 24/7 loop
| Decision point | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Input | Does the service play uploaded prerecorded files or playlists, accept an incoming OBS encoder feed, or both? |
| Duration and scheduling | What maximum run length is documented, and can you schedule the start and duration you need? OneStream Live documents a 30-day maximum for this feature. |
| Platform | Is the 24/7 feature supported on YouTube? OneStream Live documents this feature as YouTube-only. |
| Recovery and control | How do you check stream health, resume after an interruption, change details, or stop a run? The cited OneStream instructions do not establish its full outage-recovery behavior. |
| Archives | How does the provider handle long-run recording and any YouTube segmentation? YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not promise that one continuous stream longer than 12 hours will be archived as one VOD. YouTube: Stream using an encoder |
| Plan and total cost | Confirm the required plan and current price directly. OneStream Live identifies Enterprise as required; the cited help page does not establish a current price. |
