For a large video, connect your unlocked Android phone to the Windows PC with a data-capable USB cable, choose File Transfer on the phone, then copy the video to a folder on the PC. This direct local copy avoids uploading and downloading the file through cloud storage. If you’re using the clip in OBS, you can play it from the copied file; you do not need to upload it to YouTube first.
Transfer the video with a USB cable
- Unlock your Android phone and connect it to the PC with a USB cable that supports data transfer.
- On the phone, tap the notification that says it is charging via USB.
- Under Use USB for, select File Transfer.
- In the file-transfer window on Windows, find the video. Phone-camera recordings are often in the
DCIMor camera folder. Copy the file into a clearly named folder on the PC’s local drive. - Wait for the copy to finish. Eject the phone in Windows, then unplug it.
The exact transfer time depends on the file size, phone, cable, USB ports and computer. No single speed applies to every setup, so allow the copy to finish rather than disconnecting based on an estimate.
If Windows does not show the phone
- The phone only charges: confirm it is unlocked and set to File Transfer. Google notes, “Not all USB cables can transfer files.” Try a different data-capable cable, then another USB port or computer if needed.
- The file is not where expected: check the phone’s camera or
DCIMfolder, and verify that the recording has finished saving on the phone. - The copy stops or fails: reconnect the phone, select File Transfer again, and retry. Keep the phone connected and unlocked while locating and copying the file.

Send it wirelessly with Quick Share
Quick Share is available on Android 6 and later. Google’s Windows app requires a 64-bit PC running Windows 10 or later; ARM-based PCs need Windows 11 or later. Google’s app is intended for non-Samsung PCs. On a Samsung PC, install Samsung’s Quick Share from Microsoft Store instead, because Google’s Windows app is no longer supported there.
- Install or open the appropriate Quick Share app on the Windows PC.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the PC and phone. Keep both devices nearby and set them to be discoverable for the transfer.
- On the phone, select the video and use Android’s share options to send it with Quick Share. Choose the PC when it appears.
- Accept the incoming transfer on the recipient device and wait for it to complete.
Google recommends keeping the devices within 5 metres. Transfers are end-to-end encrypted, according to Google’s product FAQ. Quick Share is a convenient wireless option, but it is not guaranteed to be faster than USB for a large video; distance, interference and device capabilities affect the result.

When Phone Link or cloud storage makes sense
Phone Link
Microsoft documents Android-to-PC file exchange through Phone Link and Link to Windows, but its drag-and-drop feature is limited to selected Android manufacturers. It supports up to 100 files at a time and cannot transfer a single file larger than 512 MB, so it is not a suitable drag-and-drop route for a video above that size. Microsoft also documents Android-to-PC sharing through the share drawer; received files go to DownloadsPhone Link. Requirements depend on the current Phone Link and Link to Windows versions.
Google Drive
Drive can bridge the gap if the phone and PC are in different places: upload the video from the phone, then download it to the computer. For a large file, this means an internet upload followed by a download and can consume substantial data. No India-specific Drive speed or price is established here, so check your own connection and account before relying on it.

Use the copied video in OBS or upload it to YouTube
Play it in an OBS scene
To use a prerecorded clip during a stream, add a Media Source in OBS and point it to the video’s local path on the PC. OBS documents Media Source support for .mp4, .ts, .mov, .flv, .mkv, .avi, .gif and .webm files.
For a playlist, OBS documents a VLC Video source. VLC must be installed; use a 64-bit VLC build with 64-bit OBS. Local playback in OBS is separate from uploading or publishing a YouTube video.

Upload a regular video through YouTube Studio
- On the PC, sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Choose Create, then Upload videos.
- Select the local video file and complete the upload and publishing steps.
Uploading imports the file; publishing is what makes it available to viewers. HD and 4K processing time can depend on quality, duration, format and traffic. YouTube’s recommended upload encoding guide lists MP4 with H.264 video and AAC-LC or Opus audio, and advises uploading at the recorded frame rate. Its detailed recommended settings are stated as available only to YouTube Studio Content Manager partners, so they are not a compulsory consumer preset. You generally do not need to transcode a file just to copy it or use it as an OBS source.
