Asphalt 9: Legends is now presented under newer Asphalt Legends branding. Gameloft used Asphalt Legends Unite for the replacement branding, while Steam currently lists the game as Asphalt Legends. On Windows, use Steam or the Microsoft/Xbox PC ecosystem; on Mac, the clearest supported route is the current Steam Mac listing, especially on Apple Silicon. Before changing settings, identify whether “lag” means low frame rate, input delay, or multiplayer network latency.
Quick answer
- Windows: Install the free-to-play game from Steam or the Microsoft Store/Xbox app.
- Mac: Install the current Steam version and check its live Mac requirements. Apple M1 or newer is the least ambiguous choice.
- Progress: Link and verify your existing account before abandoning your old installation.
- Performance: Start with low graphics, a plugged-in laptop, updated drivers and closed background apps.
- Online problems: Separate network lag and rubber-banding from low FPS; they require different fixes.
- Emulators: Usually unnecessary because official Windows and Mac distributions exist.
Steam identifies the game as free-to-play with optional purchases, online multiplayer, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer: Steam listing.
What is the game called now?
Your search term is still Asphalt 9: Legends. Gameloft announced Asphalt Legends Unite as its replacement branding in 2023, and the current Steam page uses Asphalt Legends. These labels refer to the same continuing game, but storefront names can differ by platform. Gameloft’s announcement is at gameloft.com/newsroom/asphalt-legends-unite-launch.
Current PC and Mac requirements
Use the live Steam table as the current installation target. These are launch/playability thresholds, not a promise of smooth high settings or a particular frame rate.

Requirements and supported operating-system versions can change, so check the live Steam page when you install.
Why older Mac advice may conflict
An older Gameloft help article lists Windows 10 build 10.0.16299 or later, 4 GB RAM, and Mac support beginning at macOS 10.15.7 with a dual-core Intel Core i5 or Apple Silicon M1. That is legacy documentation, not a substitute for the current Steam listing: Gameloft’s requirements article.
Apple Silicon is therefore the safest Mac choice. Older Intel documentation does not guarantee that an Intel Mac is accepted by the current Steam build; check the live store page and install only if Steam marks your Mac compatible. Integrated graphics and 8 GB RAM may require low settings, while an SSD helps loading and patching.

Install on Windows
Steam (the simplest general route)
- Install or open Steam and sign in.
- Search for Asphalt Legends.
- Confirm the publisher is Gameloft and the app ID is
1815780. - Select Play Game or Install.
- Choose a drive with at least 10 GB free; leave additional room for updates and temporary files.
- Allow the first content download and shader or asset preparation to finish before judging performance.
- Link the correct account before starting substantial progress.
Microsoft Store or Xbox app
- Open the Microsoft Store or Xbox app.
- Search for Asphalt Legends and confirm Gameloft as publisher.
- Install and launch the current listing.
- Sign in with the Microsoft/Xbox account associated with the progress you want to use.
Microsoft’s labels and menus can change, so use the current listing at apps.microsoft.com. This route makes sense if your saves and friends are already in the Xbox ecosystem; Steam is generally easier for a platform-neutral Windows installation.

- Install Steam for macOS from the official Steam website and sign in.
- Search for Asphalt Legends and open the Gameloft listing.
- Read the Mac requirements shown on that page before installing.
- Install, then start with moderate or low graphics and a lower resolution if frame pacing is inconsistent.
- Approve macOS privacy or security prompts for Steam or the game when they appear.
- Pair a Bluetooth or wired controller if keyboard steering feels too abrupt.
Native Steam installation is preferable to running a Windows copy through virtualization or compatibility software when the Mac listing is available. Virtualization can add graphics, input and update complications, and performance varies by Mac, display resolution and software layer. On a MacBook, play while plugged in, avoid low-power mode and watch for heat-related throttling. An external display may also raise the rendering workload substantially.
Protect saves before switching platforms
Do not delete the old installation until the new one shows the right garage and Player ID.

- Open the existing game and note the current player profile and Player ID.
- Use the supported account-linking option in the game.
- Launch the PC or Mac version and sign in with that same account.
- Check the visible garage, currency and progress.
- Only then remove the old installation or continue playing on the new device.
Cross-save, cross-play and account transfer are separate features. Availability depends on the particular platform pair and account system; Steam, Microsoft/Xbox, mobile, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch do not necessarily share identical rules. Gameloft’s account guidance is collected under Account, General and Known Issues. Those pages also cover linking conflicts and note iOS/macOS synchronization. If two accounts were linked incorrectly, stop playing and contact Gameloft support rather than creating more profiles.
Set up keyboard or controller controls
A controller generally gives more consistent analog steering, throttle and braking. Keyboard controls work, but digital steering can feel abrupt. Gameloft documents the control path as Options → Game Settings → Controls; labels can vary by build or platform.
- Test steering, brake/reverse, nitro, 360 and camera actions in a low-stakes race.
- For a controller that behaves incorrectly, test Steam Input enabled and then disabled; the better setting depends on the controller and build.
- Replace depleted Bluetooth batteries, reduce wireless interference and try a cable when diagnosing input delay.
- If playing on a television, enable its Game Mode. Remote Desktop, capture tools and streaming can add latency.
Fix low FPS, stutter and hitching
This is graphics or frame-pacing trouble when the whole image slows, offline races also stutter, and lowering resolution helps.

- Confirm the computer meets the current storefront requirements.
- Restart the computer and close browsers, launchers, recorders, overlays and other background applications.
- Update Windows or macOS and the graphics driver.
- Choose the lowest or Very Low preset first.
- Lower resolution or render scale before sacrificing every visual option; then reduce shadows, reflections and effects if those controls exist in your build.
- Use fullscreen or borderless consistently instead of repeatedly switching modes.
- Keep a laptop plugged in, disable battery-saver mode and select its performance profile.
- Check temperatures and clock speeds for thermal throttling. A cooling stand or improved airflow can help only when heat is the cause.
- Cap FPS at a stable level if uncapped rendering produces uneven frame pacing.
- Test a career or other offline race before evaluating multiplayer.
- Verify or repair the installation in Steam or the Microsoft Store/Xbox app if the problem began after an update.
- Reinstall only after account progress is linked and verified.
Gameloft lists outdated operating systems, connection problems, low available memory and power-saving mode among possible crash or malfunction causes. Its crash guidance and known-issues page should be checked for build-specific problems.

Network lag looks different: offline races are smooth, opponents teleport or cars jump, and actions arrive late. Lowering graphics cannot repair packet loss or a server problem.
- Use Ethernet where possible.
- On Wi-Fi, move nearer the router or try a less congested band.
- Stop downloads, cloud synchronization, streaming and VPN traffic.
- Restart the router and computer.
- Check latency, jitter and packet loss, not download speed alone.
- Try another network, such as a phone hotspot, briefly as a diagnostic comparison.
- If other multiplayer games work but Asphalt does not, check the known-issues page and support.
Gameloft recommends a strong, stable connection and acknowledges reports of cars appearing from nowhere or moving strangely. A problem affecting many players may be server-side and not fixable on your computer.

Fix input delay separately
Input lag can come from a controller, display or frame pacing even when FPS and network play look normal. Compare wired and Bluetooth controllers, check Steam Input, enable monitor or TV Game Mode, and test whether delay appears in menus and offline races. Remote play, recording software and overlays are useful things to disable during diagnosis.
Crashes, black screen and sound failures
The game will not launch
- Restart the computer.
- Check the current OS and hardware requirements.
- Update the OS and graphics driver.
- Close overlays and monitoring utilities.
- Verify Steam files or repair the Microsoft Store installation.
- Launch from the current client rather than an old shortcut.
- Check free storage.
- Temporarily test whether security software is blocking the game, then restore protection.
- Reinstall only after verifying account linking.
Black screen
Likely categories include driver or shader initialization, corrupt files, an unsupported graphics path, overlay conflict, fullscreen resolution, login failure or a game-side bug. Do not treat community launch commands such as -vulkan as guaranteed official fixes.
No sound
Check the Windows or macOS output device, the game’s Sound & Display settings, Bluetooth routing and Steam audio settings. Gameloft currently lists Windows advertisement issues involving black screens or missing audio, which is different from losing all game sound: known issues.
Should you use an emulator?
Normally, no. Official Windows and Mac versions avoid the extra input mapping, performance, update and account complications of an Android emulator. An emulator is a fallback only for a specific unsupported setup, not the recommended installation method. Competition rules can also restrict emulators or software that changes how the game is played; one example is Gameloft’s official competition rules. Never use a random APK, cracked installer or unofficial launcher.

- Confirm the current listing and system requirements.
- Restart, update and close background applications.
- Lower graphics and use the correct laptop power mode.
- Test offline performance, then test the network separately.
- Verify or repair files.
- Confirm account linking and visible progress.
- Reinstall only as a last local step.
