1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou cannot officially play Gorilla Tag on a PC without VR hardware. The current Steam release is explicitly labeled “VR Only”, supports tracked VR controllers, and requires SteamVR or Oculus PC. It does not provide keyboard-and-mouse, gamepad, flat-screen, desktop, or non-VR support.
Unofficial community workarounds have been discussed, but they depend on third-party software and are not supported by the developer or documented by Steam. Their compatibility, controls, safety, and multiplayer-policy implications are uncertain.
Does Gorilla Tag have an official non-VR PC mode?
No. The official Steam listing classifies Gorilla Tag as VR Only. Its listed input feature is Tracked Controller Support; keyboard, mouse, gamepad, and flat-screen support are not listed.
The game’s movement system is also built around VR controllers. You move by pushing against surfaces with your hands and climb by squeezing surfaces with both hands. The official description summarizes the design as “No buttons, no sticks, no teleportation.” Without tracked headset-and-controller input, the intended locomotion system is unavailable.

What PC hardware does the official version require?
Steam lists these requirements for the PC VR release:
- Operating system: Windows 10, 64-bit
- Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: GTX 970 or Radeon R9 290
- Storage: 140 MB
- Internet: Broadband connection
- VR runtime: SteamVR or Oculus PC
These are requirements for playing the VR version through a PC. They do not indicate that the game has a separate desktop mode. Steam lists the Early Access release as February 12, 2021, and the full release as January 1, 2023; the official pages do not announce a keyboard-and-mouse edition or a current flat-screen mode.

Why the “PC version” wording is confusing
The Steam description refers to crossplay with “the PC versions of the game.” That wording does not mean there is a conventional monitor-and-keyboard edition. In context, it refers to PC VR builds, while the same Steam page labels the product VR Only and lists SteamVR or Oculus PC as its VR support.
Is there a Desktop Mode setting?
No documented Desktop Mode exists. The official Steam listing and Steam technical-support page do not provide a menu path, launch option, console command, configuration setting, or executable argument that enables non-VR play.

- Tri-mode Connectivity: Wired for Xbox, 2.4G & Wired for PC, and Bluetooth for Android. The G7 Pro supports seamless connectivity across Xbox, PC, and Android. Effortlessly switch between modes using the convenient physical mode switch.
- TMR Sticks: The G7 Pro features GameSir's Mag-Res TMR sticks, combining Hall Effect durability with traditional potentiometer performance. This advanced technology delivers stable polling rates for smooth, drift-free gaming with low power consumption.
- Hall Effect Analog Triggers: The GameSir precision-tuned Hall Effect analog triggers provide unmatched smoothness and linear input for precise control. Featuring clicky Micro Switch trigger stops, gamers can easily switch based on their preferences.
- 1000Hz Polling Rate on PC: Experience ultra-responsive gaming with a 1000Hz polling rate on PC, available through both wired and 2.4G wireless connections. This ensures instantaneous input registration, reducing lag and optimizing your performance for the most competitive gameplay.
- GameSir Nexus App: The G7 Pro is compatible with the upgraded GameSir Nexus app, which brings a significant upgrade over the original. It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
Therefore, instructions such as “open Settings and enable Desktop Mode” or “add a non-VR launch command” are not supported by the current official documentation.
What about unofficial mods such as Walksim?
Community discussions have mentioned a third-party mod called Walksim. A commenter described it as making the game believe a VR headset is present so that non-VR play may be possible. This is a user-reported workaround, not an official Gorilla Tag feature.

- Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
- Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
- 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
- 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
- Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.
The available discussion does not provide verified current installation instructions, exact controls, compatibility guarantees, or official support. Because of that, it would be misleading to present Walksim as a reliable step-by-step solution.
Reported problems with the workaround
- Input may not work: One user reported becoming stuck at the “K-ID” screen, with neither mouse nor keyboard able to select anything. The discussion does not establish a confirmed cause or fix.
- The game may launch without movement: Older community reports describe seeing the game on a monitor but being unable to move without a headset and tracked controllers.
- It may not be acceptable in multiplayer: A Steam discussion includes a community claim that replacing tracked VR input with keyboard-and-mouse input could be viewed as cheating because it may create a gameplay advantage. This is not a published developer enforcement rule, so treat it as a risk rather than a confirmed ban policy.
Installing any unofficial mod also means accepting risks such as breakage after updates, incompatibility with current builds, account or multiplayer issues, and the general security risk of downloading third-party files. Use only sources you trust, and do not assume that a community workaround is endorsed by the developer or Steam.

Can you play while viewing the game on a monitor?
Yes, a monitor can display the PC VR game, but that is still VR play if you are using a headset and tracked controllers. Seeing the game window on your desktop does not convert Gorilla Tag into a keyboard-and-mouse game.
What is the practical answer?
- Have a compatible VR headset and tracked controllers? Install the official PC version through Steam and use SteamVR or Oculus PC as applicable.
- Have a PC but no VR hardware? There is no supported official method to play the Steam version.
- Considering a third-party workaround? Understand that it is unofficial, lacks documented guarantees, may fail at login or movement, and could raise multiplayer-policy concerns.
- Want a supported experience? Use the official VR setup rather than relying on a mod that emulates headset input.
In short, “PC” in the Steam listing means the game can run on a PC-connected VR setup—not that it supports ordinary desktop controls.
