There is no official Android or iOS version of Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar’s current supported-platform list covers PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Enhanced and Legacy), not phones: Rockstar Games support. You can still play the PC version on a phone by streaming it from a computer with Steam Link. That does not install GTA V on the phone; the computer runs the game and sends its video and audio to your device.
What “GTA 5 on mobile” actually means
GTA V is not a native mobile download. An APK, OBB package, or listing that claims to be an “official GTA 5 Mobile” release is not an installation method provided by Rockstar. The official phone route documented by Steam is Remote Play through Steam Link: your phone acts as a remote screen and controller while a host computer runs GTA V.

Rockstar’s current PC support documentation identifies Grand Theft Auto V Legacy and Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced. The support category links PC requirements specifically for Legacy, so check the requirements for the edition you own before troubleshooting performance: Rockstar GTAV support.
Requirements for the official phone method
- A Windows PC capable of running your installed GTA V edition, with GTA V installed through Steam and signed in to the account that owns it.
- Steam running on that computer. Steam Link connects to “a computer that’s running Steam”; the host performs the game rendering and sends video and audio while receiving your input: Steam Remote Play information.
- The Steam Link app on a compatible phone, tablet or TV. Steam’s Remote Play page lists iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro on iOS 11.0 or newer, and Android phone, tablet and TV on Android 5.0 or newer: Steam Link compatibility.
- A reliable local or internet network. Streaming quality depends on the connection between the host computer and phone; the phone’s processor does not replace the PC’s GTA V requirements.
Do not confuse those Steam Link compatibility figures with Steam’s separate mobile-app listing, which currently states minimums of iOS 15.1 and Android 7.0: Steam mobile apps. They are different pages for different app listings.

How to set up GTA V with Steam Link
- Install Steam Link. Download Steam Link from your phone’s official app store. Steam labels this part of the process Install.
- Prepare the host computer. Start the computer, open Steam, sign in, and leave Steam running. Confirm that GTA V launches normally on the computer before attempting to stream it.
- Connect the phone. Open Steam Link and choose Connect. Follow the pairing instructions to select the computer running Steam. Steam’s official flow is described at Steam Remote Play.
- Launch GTA V. After pairing, open the connected computer’s Steam library in Steam Link and select Grand Theft Auto V. The game starts on the PC; the phone displays the resulting stream and sends control input back.
- Configure controls. Use Steam Link’s on-screen controls or pair a compatible Bluetooth controller. Touch controls can work, but a physical controller generally gives better camera and driving control.
What you cannot do
- You cannot install the official PC files directly on Android or iOS and run them as a native phone game.
- There is no Rockstar-provided Android shell command, APK command, OBB command, or command-line procedure for installing GTA V on a phone. The documented process uses app installation, account sign-in, device pairing and streaming: Steam’s official method.
- Steam Link cannot provide GTA V without a host computer that has Steam and the game running. Installing Steam Link alone does not grant access to the game.
Buying or finding the PC game in Steam
If you open the GTA V Steam store page, Steam may show an age gate stating, “This game may contain content not appropriate for all ages.” Choose the requested date values under Select, then choose View Page to continue or Cancel to leave. This gate is a storefront display step, not a mobile installation requirement.
Troubleshooting Steam Link and GTA V
Steam Link cannot find or connect to the computer
- Confirm the computer is powered on, Steam is open, and both devices can reach the same network for initial pairing.
- Restart Steam Link and Steam, then repeat the app’s Connect flow.
- Remember that Steam Link is only a remote connection. If the PC is off or Steam is not running, there is no game stream to receive. Steam explains this host-and-stream architecture at Steam Remote Play.
The stream is blurry, delayed or disconnects
- Improve the network path between the phone and host PC; real-time video and audio travel to the phone while control input travels back.
- Reduce competing network traffic and, where possible, use a stable wired connection for the host computer.
- Test GTA V directly on the PC. A phone cannot compensate for a host that is below the game’s requirements or already suffering from poor performance.
GTA V will not install, launch or update on the PC
These are PC installation or game-support issues rather than phone-installation issues. Rockstar’s current GTAV support index groups help under Installation, Performance, Connectivity, Activation and Error Code. “Activation Required” appears
Rockstar documents an “Activation Required” issue affecting some players after downloading the Kortz Center Heist update through an Epic Games account. That is an account-activation problem on PC, not evidence of a missing mobile edition. Consult the current Title Update 1.73 notes and Rockstar support for account-specific steps.
GTA Online reports network or account error 1.000.7
Rockstar’s support summary identifies network instability in GTA Online and error 1.000.7 as connectivity problems. Check Rockstar service status and avoid proxy servers or VPNs while troubleshooting, as advised in the current support guidance.

Why guides labeled “2023” are misleading now
A 2023-specific “GTA 5 mobile installation” procedure does not describe an official current release. Rockstar’s latest listed GTAV update is Title Update 1.73, with notes updated August 5, 2026, covering PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC Enhanced and PC Legacy: Rockstar Title Update 1.73 notes. Those supported platforms still do not include Android or iOS. Treat “GTA 5 APK + OBB” downloads and similarly named files as unofficial packages, not Rockstar’s mobile product.

You cannot download and install an official native GTA V app on Android or iPhone. To play on a phone today, install Steam Link, connect it to a computer that runs Steam and owns an installed PC edition of GTA V, and stream the game through Remote Play. Without that host computer, Steam Link has no GTA V installation to run.
