To play local Indian music videos from multiple folders in a YouTube Live broadcast, add the files you want to OBS’s VLC Video source, set its playlist behavior, and connect OBS to a YouTube Live event with that event’s stream key. OBS does not promise to find every file recursively across folders, so add the videos explicitly and test playback before going live. You also need the rights to livestream every video and its audio.
Before you set up OBS
Check YouTube Live access
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says your channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. It also says you must be at least 16 to livestream. Check that live streaming is available on your channel before building or scheduling the broadcast: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Install OBS and VLC with matching architectures
Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS requires VLC to be installed for the VLC Video source to appear. Match their architectures: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS media sources guide for the source’s requirements and behavior.
Confirm you have livestreaming rights
Having a music video file on your computer does not give you permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s livestream terms require you to have the necessary rights for the content, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Check that your permissions cover the sound recording, composition, music video, territories, live transmission, and any archive or replay you plan to make available. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions explain the platform’s requirements.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A warning may appear and a placeholder may replace the broadcast; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. If you have licensed third-party content, YouTube says to ask its owner to add your channel to the Content ID allowlist. A match check or a successful test does not establish that you have permission. Details are in YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Build a playlist from files in multiple folders
- Open the scene for the broadcast. In OBS, select the scene that should display the videos. Add a source and choose VLC Video. If that option is missing, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.
- Add the video files. In the source’s playlist controls, add each local video you want to include, including files stored in different folders. OBS documents VLC Video as a playlist-capable source. Its guide does not promise automatic recursive discovery of every file beneath multiple folders, so select the intended files explicitly rather than relying on folder scanning.
- Choose playback behavior. Turn on Loop Playlist if playback should restart after the last item. Turn on Shuffle Playlist if videos should play in randomized order rather than the listed order. OBS lists loop on and shuffle off as the defaults; check the controls rather than assuming those settings match your plan.
- Fit the source to the scene. Check the preview and adjust the source so the video fits the canvas as intended. Look for cropping, black bars, or an unexpected size before streaming.
- Check audio and more than one file. Watch and listen to multiple playlist items in OBS, and confirm the intended audio appears in the mixer. Testing more than one file can reveal a missing file, unsupported media, or a different audio-track behavior before viewers encounter it.
The OBS guide lists common formats for Media Source, while VLC Video relies on VLC’s libraries for extended media support. Do not assume every file will behave identically: preview the actual videos you plan to stream. If you move or rename files after adding them, check the playlist and test playback again.

Connect OBS to a YouTube Live event
- Create or select the event. In YouTube Studio, create the live event or open the one you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to create a stream and obtain its connection details.
- Set OBS’s stream destination. In OBS stream settings, select YouTube if the service is available. If you need to enter the connection manually, use the server URL supplied by YouTube and the event’s stream key. Treat the key as private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to that event.
- Use YouTube’s recommended connection and encoder settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingestion. Its encoder guidance recommends CBR bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, and lists supported video and audio codec options. Choose a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain; do not select a target solely because the source files have that resolution. Consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the values and codec options applicable to your stream.
- Run a representative test. Start streaming from OBS and check the incoming picture and sound in YouTube Studio before promoting or relying on the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement like the planned stream, then monitoring stream health and messages during the event.
- Start the event and monitor it. Once the preview and audio are correct, proceed with the event in YouTube Studio. Keep an eye on stream health and any warnings while the broadcast is live.
Fix common playlist and broadcast problems
- VLC Video is not available in OBS: Install VLC and confirm that OBS and VLC use the same architecture. OBS specifically requires 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS.
- A video is missing or will not play: Check that the file is still at the location listed in the playlist and add it explicitly if needed. Preview each chosen file; support for extended media formats depends on VLC’s libraries.
- The playlist stops after the final item: Enable Loop Playlist if it should restart at the beginning.
- Videos play in the wrong order: Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. Turn it off for list order, or leave it on for randomized playback.
- There is no sound, or the wrong audio is heard: Preview the affected video in OBS and inspect the mixer. Check the file’s audio track and confirm that the intended source is audible before going live.
- YouTube does not show the incoming stream: Confirm that OBS is using the correct YouTube event, server URL, and stream key. Recheck the stream status in YouTube Studio before starting the public event.
- YouTube shows a copyright warning or replaces the picture: Treat it as a rights issue, not a playlist setting. Review the content and permissions; if you have a licence for third-party material, ask its owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID. YouTube may still interrupt a stream if the owner has not allowlisted it.
- The stream health reports a problem: Review YouTube’s messages, test with the planned audio and video, and choose a bitrate and resolution the upload connection can sustain. Check YouTube’s encoder recommendations rather than changing settings at random.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded music videos looping on YouTube without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.
