The Sims 4 has no built-in real-time multiplayer mode. EA’s official online feature is the Gallery, where players browse, share, and download creations—not play in the same live game. For real-time play, the community-made Sims 4 Multiplayer Mod (S4MP) is an option, but it is unsupported and must match your current game version.
Does The Sims 4 have multiplayer?

EA says an internet connection is required to activate the game and access online features and additional content. Once installed, the PC game can be played offline. Gallery sharing is therefore an online feature, but it is not multiplayer co-op.
How to play The Sims 4 with friends in real time
The community route identified for real-time shared play is the Sims 4 Multiplayer Mod (S4MP). Its project listing describes network play in the same household. This is a third-party mod, not an EA feature, so it is not officially supported.

Check compatibility before downloading
Do not rely on an old tutorial’s version number. The S4MP CurseForge listing and the project’s news page can show different release tracks. When checked on October 8, 2026, CurseForge listed Windows S4MP 0.76.1, dated September 12, 2026, and game builds including 1.127.41. The project news page also listed an early-access 2026.10.0 release dated September 27, 2026, with a higher minimum game version. Match the release you choose to your installed game version and follow the current project notes.
Understand the risks and limits
EA warns: “Maxis and EA don’t pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content.” A mod may stop working after a game update, or cause problems. EA recommends checking compatibility with the mod creator and testing the game with mods disabled first. Read EA’s guidance on mods and game updates.

Because S4MP is third-party software, verify its current instructions and compatibility notes before installing or attempting to play. The available project information does not establish a universally valid installation sequence, participant limit, save behavior, account setup, or cross-platform support; do not assume those details from an outdated guide.

No. EA has described Project Rene as a separate, mobile-first social multiplayer life-sim project, not a multiplayer feature inside The Sims 4 or its successor. EA also says single-player PC and console experiences will continue. See EA’s announcement about the future of The Sims.
